Sometime in the 1970s Downbeat Magazine did a story about the TOP horn section. The gist of it was that the horn section was so tight, that if you sent them to 5 different hotel rooms in 5 different hotels, and sent them to bed, THEY’D STILL BE BREATHING TOGETHER. I would add that this is as true for this current line-up with Adolfo, Sal, Doc. Big Love & Mimi as it was for Greg, Mic, Doc, LP & Mimi back in the day. Great players, great charts, great songs, great band!🎺🎺🎷🎷🎷
Seen them three times have been a fan since 1973 Had chance to talk with Doc and Rocco God rest his soul, Still tear up everything I hear So Very Hard To Go
Man, the intricate brass compositions are mind blowing! And they play so in time that it sounds like one player. This is what TIGHT sounds like. No one like them. And when you add the rest of the superb members... you get the most funkiest bands ever. My all time favorite!!!
Unique. UA-cam needs more videos analyzing how bands get there sound...in my opinion. Even without the rhythm section these guys are tight and sound good! Wow! Love it. I assume it’s a Master Class?
Sorry for the late response. No sense wasting time trying to figure out how bands like this get their sound. They get their sound from God and kicking it since 1968. As for a Master Class...don't make me laugh
@@kevdebable True but many of the members of the Phoenix horns were long time studio mates of Maurice White, the founder of EWF. Remember all early ewf album songs had horn sections.
This is all FANTASTIC!! Thank you (been a follower since '70(?)... this is happening!

Yo Greg Adams was a badass
Played Bari in a TOP cover band in the mid 90‘s. Best time of my life!!

Tight!
These guys are so tight, that you can basically feel the implied groove of the snare and kick drum just from horns’ pocket.
Sweet my brothers.

My all time favorite!!!
I have been trying for ages to figure out some of the arrangements and here they are! I adore this band..Thankyou for showing this!
I'm 67, been listening to music since motown. Best horn section ever--- ever
Quinteto fantástico de metais do tower of power!
Unbelievably effin tight. Fantastic!! Like one player with five voices 🎺🎺🎷🎷🎷
Tight as a fish’s sphincter! The personnel keep changing, but the quality remains at the very top!
Best horn band around the East Bay in 70s!! Thks - kept us hopping & fun times
So good
Muy bien mis chavos se rifan como los grandes...
I would really love to see one of the music scholars on YT analyze their arrangements.
You guys kick ass Thank you .I grew up with up listening to you

the absolute best!
We came to play!
The World Famous Tower Horns ." It's a Horn Day".
The arranging and the voicing is totally bad ass. No one like tower
That's like saying those no one like Bach, Charlie Parker, Frank Sinatra.
Who did all the arranging for TOP? Was it Greg Adams?
Yes Sir's
OMG AWESOME 👏 👏👏
I would like to see and hear them play with Chicago.
That would be something!
The Best
TOP will take DOWN TO THE NIGHTCLUB!
Song at 5:16?
Souled Out
God that's got to be difficult to play, with no drums or geetars to keep the beat. Amazing.
OG ADAM.
Can you post the starting time and the name of each song in the description? For example
0:01 We came to play.
2:45 Knock yourself out
Interesting
The Best horn section in the 70s was the Phoenix Horns period
The Phoenix Horns were supplemented with studio musicians during EWFs recording sessions.
@@kevdebable yes that was that was between 80 to 83 but prior to that the only person Maurice used was trumpeter Oscar brasher
Their horns in the 70s were not on par with the TOP horns. And, don't get me wrong, EWF is my favorite music group.
@@kevdebable on par as far as what
