I never heard of David until about 2 weeks ago. I know Vinnie, Dave Weckl, and Buddy, but never knew David. That track I heard was incredible, his grove was so delicious. Now I hear this! On the Serious side, this is like insane. SO tight!! Great lessons from the horn player.
What a treat to hear these horn arrangements exposed! And David, a lot of drummers got into drums because of Ringo. For me, it was your playing on Back To Oakland that sentenced me to a lifetime of drumming. Thanks man…
I have seen this band everytime they are around..... I would like to hear them talk at every concert. AMAZING to get to hear the other side... Thank You
We first saw TOP in Cleveland Ohio at the Agora when they just released East Bay Grease. No one knew who they were, maybe 20 people in the audience. The next time they came back to Cleveland you couldn't get into the club. One of the greatest groups of all time and should be in the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame. They are real musicians and have "Soul with a capital S."
This is so awesome! TOP has been my favorite band for many years. And the best band in history, IMHO. This presentation of the horn section and drums reveals so much. And to hear their stories and advice is amazing. And... Doc speaks!! Holy crap. Thank you for this. Wish I could like this a thousand times.
Mike. PLEASE never leave TOP. I met you over 16years ago. You make the trumpet section! I love the 2nd trumpet player as he is very talented. This band is monumental!
One of the great things to come out of the infinite multi-universe theory is that there are infinite universes where I kept playing my trumpet and wound up playing with the TOP!
DG the absolute master of syncopated, complex-rhythm funk. I'm glad I'm not a drummer, 'cause listening to this guy would surely make me sell my drums and try something else.
Me and my friends from our ROLLINGWOOD neighborhood, used to jump the fence at CONTRA COSTA COLLEGE and watch TOWER OF POWER rehearse.. BEFORE THEIR FIRST LP !!! Dewayne JACKSON & ARTY BARRON led the way..
It's funny, I've been digging, and playing, this song for years. But it wasn't until just now that I realized how complex David's groove is. Me and my sad sad cover band...
"It ain't no laughin matter Stop all your piddly patter coz the idea of the peanut gallery went out with the demise of Howdy Doody" Truer words were never smoken
as always...perfection Mimi!!
There no one David is a monster on the Serious side of Syncopated funk. Man I love you guys.🥁😎🥁

Nothing like TOP!!😊😊
love this bare rendition - you can hear the whole kit carrying the beat with its resonance!

I can't get this song out of my mind.
one of my all time favorite TOP songs of all time. I can play this for hours on end and never get sick of it..
I've seen them almost 100 times and still the best.
I'd say I've seen em over 200 times and that was in the 70's & 80's.& 90's.
David doing what he does better than anyone. Sounding great my brother!!!
This band is STILL bad-ass. Thank you Emilio, Doc and DG for keeping it going!
Seriously. This is the top of beyond the top.
Love this !!!! You cats :-)
Thanks for the history of this song! I'm glad I'm not the only one that can't find the downbeat! 😂

Always on TOP. BACK TO OAKLAND!
So glad DG wrote this out for us mere mortals in his book (Off the Record). This groove is mind bending.
Speaking of DG, his new book is out now. My copy comes today. Excited!

Damn this sounds good.
I love the mike setup they have on Doc's horn. I wish the past recordings had Doc sounding like that. Man! The band sounds F*** awesome.
Excellent playing, especially amazingly tight considering there's no bass in this version- miss Rocco.......
Love the back story, and this version was especially good. "It don't got to be loud, but it got to be funky."
You guys are historical and funny at the same time. I love TOP and I plan to see you guys in a month in Birmingham, AL.
Love the one off beat!
Wise words from Mike Bogart. Loved them.
Goosebumps!
Wow I was not expecting some odd timed shuffled scatting when researching these guys. That’s cool.
Mararavilhoso. Obrigado
Pure Gold! Lay it down brother!
Very Interesting!
They're tight as hell.
So sick
Phenomenal
Me encantó la batería :D
Going tonight at CsU Chico!
In the Slot, the whole album is syncopated bliss!
Funk master David Garibaldi laying down some voodoo, he is the best man. I was so fortunate to have studied with Dave, he is a true master of Funk…..
Back to Oakland...learned King Kong and was hooked
Me and my friends from our ROLLINGWOOD neighborhood,
used to jump the fence at CONTRA COSTA COLLEGE and watch TOWER OF POWER rehearse..
BEFORE THEIR FIRST LP !!!
Dewayne JACKSON & ARTY BARRON led the way..
Masteeeeeeeeeers!!!!!
Hubert Tubbs sang it on In The Slot album recording in the Mid 70's.
GOAT
the drummer is crazy, its so hard to keep that groove up and stay on time with such little support in the beginning
A question for which I cannot find the answer: Who did all the arrangements for TOP? Thanks.
You gotta count! Count MFR!
If you ever practice any type of syncopated beat then that is Mr Garibaldi surprisingly I have not heard to many drummers who don’t know who he is.

Damn ...

Truer words were never smoken
Is Doc OK?
Kind of difficult to replace Rocco…
That was serious... Lol
All I know I just saw them a few weeks ago.And the drummer is good, but he got some big shoes to fill since David retired.
