This is a lesson and transcription I did from a live version of John Mayer's "Come Back to Bed" that aired in 2004 on the Carson Daly show. Reference video here: • Come Back To Bed - Joh... . It featured Mayer playing the song unaccompanied and the guitar parts are laid bare for all to hear and not buried like in the studio version mix. This live version features an improvised solo over a looper at the end. For added value I included TAB and instruction for the main solos and melodies from the studio version of the tune (not performed on the Daly Show) so folks can incorporate them if they wish. This is one of my favorite John Mayer tunes which he does not play as much these days, as it is said that it was an early stab at a "Gravity" type vibe. Mayer has been quoted as saying "If I have Gravity, why would I play "Come Back to bed?".
How many of you learnt Neon from this legend?
I could play gravity :"v

Never has one person been owed so much by so few! You’re efforts make you messiah in the UA-cam world to those who struggle through the John Mayer journey. I looked at every why Georgia video on you tube to get that c9 bit down, and only your video got me through that. Now I never go elsewhere and eagerly await each next instalment. Thank you so much!!
I’ve just searched for this song and finally zartimus uploaded a tutorial for it thx zartimus ;)
The man, the myth, the lockdown legend. Great as always. You deserve all the praise and thanks. 🐐🙌
thank you zartimus for everything you do
Please teach half of my heart
Love your videos and always eagerly waiting 🔥
Thank you so much for this!!!! I love that performance and this is one of my favourite John Mayer songs
One of my favorite version. Thank you for your videos !!.

Glad to see you posting again! An absolute Mayer staple here, thanks for the lesson 🙌🏼
Dude you have all the best live lessons of Mayer!!!! Love you
thank you for taking the time to make these insanely detailed lessons, you’re a blessing to us jm fans
Great job!! I absolutely love the other version he did in 2003 I believe live at the live sessions. I hope you could cover that one at some point because there is so many beautiful notes and arrangements in that solo especially. Thanks for all your videos!!
I’m so thankful for you
He’s back, the GOAT
There’s a version of neon at a venue called the hotel cafe that is absolutely stellar. It’s an older Mayer, playing a jazz infused version. He’s also doing these palm slapping techniques that make the guitar sound like a jazz trio. There is nothing more in this world i want than a lesson from the best John Mayer teacher on UA-cam on how to play that song, particularly the techniques. Thank you for everything!
The best channel of UA-cam ❤️
You are AWESOME man! Thanks so much
omg.. thanks man. that s the video I was looking for!!! 😏 cheers!!
Zartimus you are a god amongst men for making these amazing lessons. Just got round to finishing of the live intro from “I’m gonna find another you” from your last lesson and a day later you’re back with another , timing couldn’t of been any better 😆 keep up the good work!!!
Please make a lesson for ain't no sunshine - John Mayer
Thank you man. I have not been able to find this song properly tabbed out.
This guys the best!! Thanks for all your dedication. It's blessed us all.
Is there any chance we could get a "wait until tomorrow live from try" that solo is just fire 🔥
You are the best guitar teacher on UA-cam ! You are the definition of quality

Please make one for I Don't Trust Myself (With Loving You) WTLI.

Love you zartimus
This is great!! Can you please please make a lesson for Out of my Mind by the JM trio (where the light is version)? It's an absolutely beautiful performance but a tough one to crack for us mere mortals. Thanks!!
It would be amazing if you did ain’t no sunshine from the crossroads festival
Awesome vid! Have u seen John do No Such Thing with the “yearbook” intro? He does it during a super early Philadelphia performance and would be super dope to do a tutorial on it.
First and foremost, thank you for these amazing tutorials! Secondly, could you create a tutorial for this live session of Come Back to Bed (especially the solo at 6:26)? The video is titled: "John Mayer - come back to bed live at the live sessions".
Please do out of my mind live in la!
C: dude thank you for everything ; you are great : could you do this will all make perfect sense someday? :" It is for the unreleased songs
Please do a lesson on JM's cover of "Call Me the Breeze"! The right hand technique is tougher than it sounds. I've been listening to slowed down live versions and it's still difficult. Work your magic! lol
please make a vid on edge of desire. the way he played on the recent martin live show!
Please do one for Mayer's Speak For Me!!!
Can you please do a tutorial on Edge of Desire (live at the Hollywood Bowl 2010)
Hello from argentina
I wonder if you could take a look at the acoustic version of new light John just released a few months ago. I’d love to learn it but I need someone a lot more skilled than me to decode chords and notes ^^

why does the A minor pentatonic work on the Em6 and D7 chord prog?
is it because the prog kinda sounds like a blues I-IV except the only difference is that instead of A7 as the I, it's an Em6 (which has the same notes as an A7 except that the bass is not an A but the VIm of E)
I might not be giving enough info on that. Pentatonic scales take out two troublesome notes 2 & 6 in the minor and 4&7 in the major. It's easier to hit common notes in the two chords behind them when you use those scales. I'd have to go back and check, but if memory serves me correctly that is in A major and uses a borrowed chord or two from A minor, the parallel key. A lot of John Mayer songs are like that. I don't know if he just really knows what he's doing or if it just "sounds good" and he goes for it. In reality, he can do anything. Music first, rules later (as long as it doesn't sound bad). I don't think I went into the 7th chord order progressions in that video, maybe I should have. I might make a video on weird John Mayer chord progressions and how to assign them a key ;-) Also, I tend to always cheat and find root notes on the 6th string and stage from there so I know what note I'm accenting, Mayer can do that from inside the scales he uses, probably just going by ear and feel.
