That piece you found floating around in the case is the little clip that should be attached to the inside of the “f” hole and it should hold the wires out of the way. They stick on with some 3m.
Whoever assembled and set up that guitar should be fired. Or maybe transferred to the Murphy Lab, where it would all blend in and look more umm, "Authentic"? Heh.
Perhaps if more people started returning the guitars being shipped out with all the defects within, they may start disclosing the issues up front. That’s definitely a send back, especially at $5,500!
I bought the white SG junior from the Mod Shop, it was advertised as gloss white, it was like they sprayed it with Kilz Primer, looked terrible, smelled terrible, total bummer. Big time let down.
I just can’t get this. Traditionalism on guitar world can be insane! Richlite was a nice alternative when the ebony supply was limited. And some acoustic Taylor guitars use it very well.
For a custom that’s pretty underwhelming. You would think they’d pay more attention to the bridge and scratching. After all isn’t extra care and attention what you’re also laying for with a custom?
Those scratches just... happen on finishes like that. It sucks but it's also why I don't buy guitars painted up like that. Gloss is delicate enough for em.
ready! You could definitely advise Gibson on a better way to list and sell the Mod Collection. Sucks not seeing the condition and it's always interesting to check out the sold listings.
@TroglysGuitars I agree with this. Austin, you could bring their guitars in the mod shop to the masterpiece level. Even as just a consultant. I think you should call "your guy[s]" at Gibson and float the idea. I'll mention it to JC the next time we correspond 😂😂. Just don't hold your breath! He did write me another very nice email, but I'm sure the moment I'm out of his hair, it'll be "Mike who?". In fact, based on some very nice emails from other executives (including their attorney, lol), I have the distinct impression I'll be dead to them soon. No way those guys are being nice to me because they like me 🤣🤣 Nobody likes me as much as they're pretending to. JC wants to make me a custom guitar, but I'm afraid to take him up on it because, as nice as that is, I'm sure there will be a hefty invoice associated with it! 🤣🤣. I'm also sure that, based on the way I acted, they think I have way more money than I do! Lol.
Nicely put. This guy must laugh every time some idiot wants to get robbed by what is a borderline criminal business conduct. Charging 5.5k for this turd is grotesque.
Is it just me or do those pickups sound terrible on the cleans, not to mention the intonation sounds off, at least to my ears. Seemed to be OK on the dirt settings. You are correct about the Richlite fretboards. On my Gibson Acoustic, I was a bit bothered by the fact it was Richlite, but it played so well that I bought it anyway. The Richlite looks better now than when it was new (or maybe I am accustomed to it 🤷♂️), although it looked very much like ebony and was finished well when I got it. It is not a cheap material to manufacture in the least. I am very much a traditional rosewood/ebony/maple kind of guy, but I rarely even remember that it is Richlite instead of ebony
Ibanez make better semi hollow humbucker guitars that look like an ES 335 and their attention to detail makes Gibson look shabby. Plus Ibanez guitars mostly stay in tune and cost much less than most Gibson guitars do.
Keep in mind you can get a Collings for that price, or you can have an actual luthier build you a custom made guitar. This turd is not custom, just another failed experiment, that they sell off at absurd prices. Must be nice to have an army of clueless fanboys.
I like the look, actually. That weight is something else! Unfortunately, this is one of the weakest and most lifeless sounding instruments I can recall hearing on your Channel and one of the few if not only times I've heard you say that you regret buying something. The blemish control in the mod shop really seems practically non-existent.
Absurdly expensive considering its very, very poor quality and its sounds like 50 dollars. There are flaws everywhere on this thing, and it even tried to disassemble itself on the way. My condolences.
Cool guitar, other than the satin finish. I'm just not a fan of satin finishes, It would be really cool if it were gloss, gives me the Billy Gibbons vibe with the pin stripes!
It takes nothing to leave impressions on a black satin finish like that. I believe you could take most of that away with a damp microfiber cloth. And as you say, some spit and polish will make the finish glossier and certainly remove those light scratches. I do like the look of the guitar anyway. It's cool in its own way.
Honestly, I love Richlite. For the environmental tradeoff, it’s a great product. And anyone saying they can hear the difference better not be using any amount of overdrive or they’re full of shit!
My number one dude just won the fabulous Wallmart award for the very first comment wooohooo you are absolutely amazing and one of my personal favorites.....
I don't normally go for fancy guitars but I must admit, I think I love this one! there is just something about it that feels like its getting in my soul!
Was hoping this purchase worked out for ya. On a side note, today there was an interesting LP jr that was listed and sold in the demo shop; had interesting pickup and cool body color.
Very cool guitar, I do think you need to check how finishes are called. Satin is semi-gloss, this is just plain matt. Other than that keep up the good work :)
ES LPs with normal finishes look great. I love the idea. But this fugly thing looks like it ought to be on the wall of a chain BBQ restaurant. It’s trying way too hard.
My 2016 (-17) Epiphone Wildkat always reminded me of a semi-hollow Les Paul with "f" holes and 2 P-90 pup's and a Bigsby. It's even heavy like a Les Paul.
Love this guitar, Is the bridge the wrong way round? I have an Alex Lifeson one. Is the centre block the same as the Alex Lifeson version? (Written while watching video)
This is the coolest looking guitar you’ve done IMO. Not trying to be a dick, but you obviously haven’t spent much time in the hot rod/rat rod community. This is classic rat rod pinstriping. Flat black, red and white are classic colors. I want to get this done on my Gretsch 5410 “Rat Rod.” Rat Rods are the OG of “relics” in the car world. Random parts, rust, high performance, and bad ass looks.
What model are those knobs from? And all those weird colored pickup rings? These are mysteries I would love for you to solve. Guitar Mysteries series! *Cue the Scooby Doo music!*
I have a 2014 Epiphone Les Paul Florentine. Guitar screams and has so much Dynamic control into Fender Pro Junior 4 at 8 or 9. Anything that is semi-hollow, be ready for more low-end. And the guitar weighs less than 6 lb so it does not hurt your shoulder. I will probably never buy a Gibson it's not worth the extra money.
Usualy satin finish is a tricky thing to apply, sometimes coggling appens, but not that kind of scratch...Maybe they "forget" to clean the surface before the apply...Gibson made a mistake,by letting this out of their shop.

You KNOW I've been waiting for this one!
I'm a Fender and Peavey girl, but I do love that guitar!! Also a loyal viewer of every show! Thank you for a great video!
I am impressed by Trogly’s continuing genuine enthusiasm for Gibson guitars, despite nearly every Gibson he reviews being a mountain of defects.
Gibson "trying to make lemonade from lemons!"
That’s what makes it entertaining: the denial
I have a good friend who says that Gibson's motto should be - "There's a great guitar in there, somewhere."
The scratching all over the guitar is just awful ... and incomplete/wrong assembly aswell ! Gibson should be ashamed of themselves ...
Semi-hollow Les Pauls actually look pretty cool. But that’s coming from a big Thinline Tele fan
That's just good taste, sir. Standard size semi-hollows are awesome.

@@Krullmatic That’s what he’s got it listed for on his website. Even if he paid $1K less, it’s still a shame to see what Gibson shipped out.

You get hate comments for giving your opinion of RichLite? Some folks desperately need lives.
I just can’t get this.
Traditionalism on guitar world can be insane! Richlite was a nice alternative when the ebony supply was limited. And some acoustic Taylor guitars use it very well.
People romanticize guitar materials for some reason but pretty much can guarantee that 99% of people probably can't tell the difference.
@@joshuadevries3459 99% can’t tell when the B string is flat. ;)
@@ScottHz hahaha 100%
@@joshuadevries3459 oh you can tell ..i own one
You’re a much better sport than I am. If that guitar showed up to my house in that condition, I’d be so upset. Thank you for the review!
For a custom that’s pretty underwhelming. You would think they’d pay more attention to the bridge and scratching. After all isn’t extra care and attention what you’re also laying for with a custom?
Wow that sounds terrible and all the scratches are unacceptable. Better luck next time Trogly
Well, ya really can't base how it sounds through a cellphone speaker or a computer speaker. Im sure it probably sounds better in person 👍🤟
I've always wanted one of these. I feel it'd be a nice ska box, ya dig? Some day maybe... some day...
Greetings and well wishes from Utah man!
MOD stands for: Mistakes, Oversights, Dings
I would send that back!
Doesn't look satin from here...looks like a matt finish

Nicely put. This guy must laugh every time some idiot wants to get robbed by what is a borderline criminal business conduct.
Charging 5.5k for this turd is grotesque.
I feel like Gibson could 10x their sales if you just worked for them and told them what to do😂

I love F hole guitars, but this looks like Gibson assembled this on a Friday afternoon before quitting time.
That scratching is more than just a blemish, I'd be sending it back.
Ibanez make better semi hollow humbucker guitars that look like an ES 335 and their attention to detail makes Gibson look shabby. Plus Ibanez guitars mostly stay in tune and cost much less than most Gibson guitars do.

There's one Freddie King ES345 available on reverb at the moment for a decent price. Would love to see a review.

Thats a Billy Gibbons Special!
Just when I thought Gibson's build quality and QC couldn't get any worse this comes along 🤷♂️🤦♂️

I would ditch the gold hardware. I don’t think it looks too great with gold. Clashes a bit too much IMO.

For the love of Pete! Tune that thing.
Thumb bleeders with knobs that dont have numbers or a marker? Why?
Gibson quality. Fortunately I'm not Gibson fanboy

You should send that guitar back to Gibson. The scratches are total B's. Gibson wants top dollar and they send that out? No.
Initial thoughts:
- Pickups were way too dark
- The resonance was nice
Thanks for the demo
Lots of excuses for the poor finishing - any other make and he would have been big on criticism...
Why don’t you try tuning it Trogly 😂
@@marander512 Well put, get with it Trogly ❗️
That sating finish is a big NO for me, it would scratch off easily. Otherwise - cool guitar!
The condition of it is a true disgrace.

Love the stripes.... hate the F holes.
funny, i’m the exact opposite haha
Lol! F the F holes?
I would have taken off the poker chip, it’s odd having a glossy circle on.a satin top.
As I keep saying Gibson quality control is almost non existent. I have 2 I'm not a hater just a realist
I don't normally go for fancy guitars but I must admit, I think I love this one! there is just something about it that feels like its getting in my soul!
How long has Rich light been around? How long does it last?
Usually I’d say a couple of scratches is knit picking, but dang…cool guitar either way!
Pin striping's for old school Harley's and hot rods 😁
Not sure if it's the construction, pickups, amp, or the way you have the amp eq'd, but I'm not a fan of the sound clean or driven.
Richlite is fantastic, I never understood the hate
Wow.... hideous.
One big dealer in my country still have a few of this ES LP in few colours in stock
Maybe the finish got too close to the Murphy lab guys.
Pickup rings should be black 🤘🤘

sexy green one with the nighthawk, saw that too.

Harris is an incredible artist. I saw a video where he pinstriped James otto’s telecaster and it was beautiful. Great laid back southern boy
this thing was dressed up to sell to a player who plays Rock a Billy at antique custom car shows . it's very culture specific. " rat rod culture "
Hahahahaha.....nice... I was thinking along the same thing!!!
Not usually a fan of the pinstripe, but I dig this one.
it sounded horrible
the only thing I should like about this guitar is the satin finish, but it all really comes together to make a cool guitar.
Very cool guitar, I do think you need to check how finishes are called. Satin is semi-gloss, this is just plain matt. Other than that keep up the good work :)

You can hear it in your voice….you don’t love this one. I guess they can’t all be amazing right?
I really like this, but yeah, who ever put it together trashed that paint scheme. A real shame they didn't take care with it.
Cool Guitar. Horrible Paint scheme. The white one looked pretty classy.
Geezus...what an ugly example of what could have been a beautiful guitar ES Les Paul.
If you really have to have a pickguard; transparent matt pickguard would go nicely :)
Holding out for the Gaston "Antlerburst" ES-335.
I don’t think that this sounds particularly good or bad. Just kinda ehhh
