God, I just watched this scene today and never before had I cried as much as I had while watching this scene play out. I was just bawling my eyes out when he started to address everyone as "My Soldiers" because 'My' is possessive and it just makes everything so much more personal.

From how pitiful and hopeless it starts, to that moment you see he has convinced himself of his own words, leading into the godlike line "We die trusting the living who follow to find meaning in our lives!", and ending with "My soldiers, rage!" which just fits so perfect, because the whole situation is so bleak and unfair to all of them. This theme of the living giving meaning to the fallen runs through to the rest of the series it’s really beautiful. It also ties in with the overall message of moving forward and it’s amazing how much consistency and call back to a motif Yams creates early on in the series

Damn, the crucial part is there is reality in that. Things like that isnt only in AoT, comrades and soldiers ready to die for all. As i know at the WW1, at the gallipoli:

It's funny, I only recognised it when I went back and rewatched this scene recently. The way he shouts in this scene is almost exactly the same as the Jotaro shout.
And ThorbelinhoTVs voice is my voice
In his final speech he wasn't just convincing the rookies, he was convincing himself. The dedication and focus towards the scouts came from his personal obsession with the truth. He doubts the charge before he remembers the noble fallen, that to not give his life for selfish reasons would sully the memory of his comrades.
For anyone interested in the Japanese subtitles for this speech, i've translated them since I can't find them anywhere else online. Erwin's Speech:

This is easily top 5 best scenes in the show, erwin was always a side character to me before this scene, and when they had to choose him or armin my heart sank. The speech alone is so real and so emotionally powerful. If you dont at the very least get goosebumps watching this during the span of the show, something is wrong with you.

Return to Shiganshina (Attack on Titan Season 3 Part 2) is one of the greatest arcs/seasons in any form of media across any genre. The 3 episode run of Perfect Game, Hero, and Midnight Sun is one of the strongest 3 episode stretches in TV history. This season also had one of the best flashbacks I have seen (Grisha’s flashback). What Isayama accomplished in this arc is incredible
Keep in mind that Attack on Titan is not even my number 1 favorite anime (it’s my 5th favorite), yet here I am giving it this much well deserved praise.

This raw, pure speech is the reason Erwin is my favorite character and commander. Raw, pure and brutally honest to his troops. I truly believe he wouldn't lay a finger on young scouts that would have ran away. Amazing character! We can dream of a different reality, where he was picked by Levi. And, in a way, him not being picked only added to his character and mystique.

I wish I could watch this for the first time again. "We die trusting the living that follow to find meaning in our lives". I never looked at life the same way after I heard this line.
Erwin's charge is definitely up there in "Top 10 Horseback charges Against Death." but is just underneath King Theoden's for sure. An army charging into battle while knowing it's going to end in their death but yelling "DEATH!" to the enemy is freaking terrifying.
I completely disagree.
In Theoden's case, they are charging to FIGHT an army. Odds are against them, but they can still fight for their lives, like the AoT soldiers are used to. There is some form of consolation in fighting back and there's a chance (even if just remote) they might survive.
Here, they are literally charging to DIE with no consolation possible, only the promise that charging hopefully even gives a chance (for Levi) to fight, and that those who come after will give meaning to your actions. There's no sword swing that might make you feel some satisfaction, a friend you're helping amidst the battle, only you, jumping to certain death.
This AOT scene had far depth to its writing than the LOTR scene you are referring to. In AOT you see the commander openly acknowledging that they are all about to die, you see the soldiers processing this news and their very human reactions to it, you see the fear on their faces as they charged. That is far more human displays of emotion than the LOTR charge. Not to mention the consequences in AOT were far more grave since the scouts were decimated. Plot armor always saves the good guys in LOTR.

This speech is deeper than you think. Victor Frankl, a professor in psychology who survived the horrors of concentration camps, tells pretty much the same stuff in his philosophy.
I legit work out to this. This is THE most motivational and inspirational speech in anime. I will never stop watching this. Erwin is the only man who could convince everyone to charge to their deaths and make everyone want to do it. This man is the best leader in anime history.

I listen to this everyday at the gym when I'm at my lowest and I can't do no more when I feel like I'm about to give up Erwins words motivate me with a passion I find strength within his word I listen to it in Japanese but I already know word for word what he is saying god bless the manga writer his words are indescribably motivational. No matter what I go through in life I always think of Erwins words he might just be a character to some but in my mind he lives on forever and his words show the courage to give me strength.
This is peak AOT, what happened afterwards came close but this is where the series reached its epic height.

I love this character so much. He is one of if not the greatest leaders in anime. He was scared the entire time yes, but on the battlefield he was fearless. This guy ignored the fact that he was having his arm taken off by a Titan just to tell his squadron to stick to the plan of retrieving eren. All this while losing his will to live, losing his sanity, he still kept moving forward until he completed his mission.
