Every morning for 4 years... oats, banana, wild blueberries, 10 grapes and chia with oat milk (now Plantstrong milk!). Absolute favorite. Inspired by Ann and Essy!
A curious question in regard to the intro. Have you ever thought about getting a knife prop to run back with instead of the fork both times to pay reference to Forks Over Knives?
I bought Amla powder a month ago and have been afraid to add it to my morning fruit, granola, and yogurt. I keep thinking it will make it taste too different and that I won't like it. You have given me the courage to try it! I make my own granola so I would definitely add that to your dish.
Yes, I loved grapefruit but had to give it up over 30yrs ago when I was put on BP med. It can allow too much of the med (and other meds, not just for BP) to enter the blood stream resulting in a too low BP.
I have been making a morning cocktail with 1/4 tsp of Amla powder and golden honey (raw unfiltered local honey with turmeric powder, oil and fresh ground black pepper) in warm water. Mix it well and I take it on an empty stomach. I’m sure vegans out there will throw a fit because I said honey. With being an avid gardener and a lot of spring, summer and fall allergies it really helps because it is local honey. In addition without bees there wouldn’t be fruits and vegetables!!! I digress!! Ann, I learned of Amla powder from you and have been taking it religiously for 2+ months. I love it and thank you for talking about it!!
Thanks for the reminder. While I have a vegan diet currently I still need a blood pressure medicine. I did a bit of research and found even a small glass of grapefruit juice can cause problems. Hopefully someday I'll be off this medicine and can enjoy this fabulous sounding recipe. I'm considering trying it using an orange but the tartness won't be there.
My pharmacist warned me about the grapefruit interaction when I started taking BP meds 30yrs ago but these days I notice some pharmacists attach small warning stickers to the labels on meds, re avoiding grapefruit. Prior to finding out I needed med, I used to love having a grapefruit at breakfast...miss it :(
@@marycook135 if you add amla, it's extremely sour and so that may give you a sort of "tartness" you might be missing? Also maybe a bit of lemon, with the orange and its juice. Good idea to use an orange, for those of us on meds still.
Ann is a genius! Grapes add a delicious pop of juice and sweet to oatmeal or shredded wheat. I am in the ‘Ann camp’ of drier oats. I do not enjoy wet, mushy oats either. Love you ladies!!!
I’d also add pomegranate seeds, mmmm, or stir in some fresh minced cranberries and chunks of steamed yams. I’m not a fan of oats but I’ll give that a try. I usually put fruits or veggies in a bowl of congee in the morning. Thank you all for all you do for improving health.
This really seems like suuuuch a perfect combination :D I have amla every day in my porridge :) (I usually make it wth whole oats, rye, barley and lentils ^^) thank you so much for sharing
I like to add blueberries … I buy the regular, organic blueberries, almond milk, hot water to ‘cook’ the oats with flaxseed I like to eat grapefruit by itself
How much Amla powder? I put in 1 tsp as per package serving recommendation. Btw, I didn’t see her add it to the oats🤷♀️ Does cooking it in your oats affect its benefits?
Hi - Sorry for a question that is related to this video. I have the book by Dr. Esselstyn and the two cookbooks. I was watching a video earlier on dressings and saw Engine Hummous. I can't find it. It seems it's not available. Are there other brands you recommend? I realize there is a recipe in the cookbooks, but if I can purchase an acceptable one it will be easier most times. Thanks! :)
Be careful with amla if you're taking meds that thin the blood, even baby aspirin. And if you're on BP meds check with your doctor or pharmacist if you can eat grapefruit.
This is funny I was telling myself today. I should eat more grapefruit. I love it but I some what got it in my head. It’s a lot of work. I should just get over it.
Hi from Oregon. I enjoy watching you both so much! I am new ( a little over a month) to the plant base eating and learning so much. Thank you both, your dad, and your brother.
You both are so funny and sweet. I eat all those combinations in my oats or a smoothie in the morning. Love your channel and you make me smile. Question, if you are diabetic, can you eat grapefruit due to certain meds or blood pressure meds?
I was diagnosed with osteoporosis. I was told that it happened because I was plant-based and not getting enough protein. I just can't believe that I might not have been getting enough protein because I didn't know the protein of different vegetables. But can I go on this with osteoporosis? Do I have to go back to meat? I've put on 30 lb since they said to do it. I don't want to do that. I don't. I have scoliosis. I can't afford the extra weight. Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
How long were you plant based ? And we're you eating whole foods plant based, lots of greens, and lots of variety (colors of the rainbow)? That should hopefully help with treating osteoporosis and not causing it, at least I would think but I definitely don't know everything. Good luck on your healing journey. I wish the best to you.
I can tolerate a lot of fiber in my diet but uncooked old fashioned oats causes me some distress. Anyone else have this issue? Plus I feel more full and satiated from the cooked, swollen oats. Unrelated question but when did Jane get braces? I got Invisalign at 51 after paying for my four children to have braces. Insurance only covers about a quarter of the cost and none for adults. It was my treat to myself, lol.
Amla powder doesn’t work for everyone. I tried it for three months and my cholesterol shot up. I currently take statins so grapefruit is out. I’m WFBP for 7 years.Thank you.😅

Watching you both is FUN!! Ann in a hoot!🤣🤣😂😂😆😆
Love the recipe and how you both are wearing splashes of pink that coordinate nicely with the beautiful pink grapefruit. 💞
A curious question in regard to the intro.

Blooper cam!!! Yes!! Love you both! Sounds so simple and so flavourful!
I’m trying this tomorrow! I usually have oats with raspberries, coconut, vanilla extract and toasted almonds.
Jane, everything is there.

I wish I could have this. I've heard I can't have grapefruit because I'm taking blood pressure meds.

Grapefruit should come with a disclaimer as it interacts with many medications.

And the frozen wild blueberries have the most flavor as well. They are the only type I have bought for the last few years for sure. ❤
I‘m sure it‘s great as it is. Any berry will fit into this. Bananas are berries too.

do you ear the whole seeds?

If you're going to cook the oats, don't add the berries, the amla, anything with vitamin C in it, till after it's off the heat and in the bowl.
I would love to hear your thoughts on all the heavy, dangerous metals in spices & the arsenic in rice. Thank you!

Having a true grapefruit knife makes preparation a breeze.

all that plus hemp seeds and cacao powder ;)
I do like pink grapefruit and oatmeal, but I've never had the grapefruit in the oatmeal. That sounds like it might be tasty.
What about a Julia Child cookbook? She was called the French Chef and she only used good ingredients.
But the Alma (gooseberries) full of lead from some of places it is dried and ground up at apparently, (organic- nonGMO labled) so
what up with that?
Be carful with. Amaya powder dropped my blood pressure too low … made me very dizzy
This is how I make my morning oats. is how I make my morning oats. IAlma powder is great
I can't have any grapefruit because of my heart medication. Something else instead of that fruit?
