I watched Rising Damp a million times as I was growing up, and I have the DVD box set… but I’d forgotten how brilliant, clever, witty and funny this particular episode was. Hilarious! 👏🏻🤣
Various shaped soap were a real novelty in the 70's. People used to get them for Christmas and were reluctant to use them because they were so, 'different.' Hence the comment about him having him such a long time. Soapy water in the hair was a very cheap alternative for hair lacquer. Something some men looked down on as being too feminine to use, so they would use dried soap to keep it in place. But, as was mentioned, if you got it wet it would tend to froth, somewhat!
I was never sure how old they were supposed to be. In real life, Frances de la Tour was only three years older than Richard Beckinsale and six than Don Warrington, but I think the gap is supposed to be more
Try to find sit-com 'The fall and rise of Reginald Perrin' starring Leonard Rossiter, I think you'll like it. A man suffering mid-life crisis, having a breakdown and faking his own death, it's absolutely hilarious! Honest!
This is a great episode, loved watching it with you. There were commercials in the middle of this, it was an ITV show, the commercial rival to the BBC. Generally reckoned their best show.

you can use soap for your hair as it same ingredients with a few differences but they do advise why i do not know in moderation as it brittles your hair

i think that lasted through the 90s til it became tacky lol. it always smelled the same too. youd keep it to admire instead of using it lol
I remember an old bloke back in the 70s who used lard on his hair, It was as shiny as a crash helmet.

Their is a massive difference between a comedian and a comedic actor , Leonard Rossiter was a truly gifted and hilarious example of this 🤣🤣🤣🤣👍🏻👍🏻😎
