- Recovering and getting this board back to Cheyne was amazing and one of the many positives of the flood relief effort by the community. Thanks Hayden for taking care of this board for all these years and flowing it back to Cheyne.
Like many kids I loved Cheyne and his surfing as a grom. He was my hero. I have a fond memory of surfing Swami's at 13 in 1979, where I pretended to be him on one wave and then MR on the next wave in an imaginary competition. I studied everything about Cheyne, he was a huge inspiration and a big reason why I chose to devote myself to becoming a professional surfer. Thank you Cheyne for your amazing contribution to surfing. And Thanks for being such a good friend. - Спорт
Epic Brad, Cheyne was my hero too back then, after that it was Curren and you!! What a cool video.
Yo Brad! Very cool brother. Hey Cheyne! You inspired me. I rode some of Geoff's boards back in the day, including a 5'10" Laser Zap. I loved that board! Mahalo Cheyne, Geoff, Brad.
Dang !!! That’s very nice !!! Big fan of both you guys. I ordered a couple tear drops from McCoy in 82-84 in Newport. Great experience for sure
Good stuff , thanks
Nice work Brad for posting this!
That’s so cool 👏
Two great surfers good seeing them both and Shane re united with one of his old boards , cheers !👍🇦🇺
Cheyne and Brad shouldve been world champs. Champions to millions of us.
They both surfed for themselves & not for sponsors.
Real surfers! 🤘
Two great surfers...wonderful..
Very cool you guys returned Cheyne’s board to him.
Great video Brad - thanks for posting. What a story!!
Nice story Cheyne is surfing royalty
I agree.
Great story Mr G. A heartfelt input from you. I grew up surfin at the Di and can still remember seeing Cheyne pulling into a 2 foot cover-up/ tube, disappearing and almost instantly reappearing 5 meters down the line. Yes truly cosmic ;-)
Awesome stuff Brad!
Cheyne is an Aussie icon and Brad is super sweet too.
Hey Brad! Cool seeing you again, on YT!
My good friend rode a zap for years at Huntington...He loved Cheyne...
Yeah this is unreal. I grew up on Sydney's Northern Beaches and rode McCoys through the mid late 70's. I have in my collection an original McCoy with this exact spray in reverse (red rails yellow deck spray). Always wondered if it had a connection to Cheyne as I remember he rode both spray versions like this and reversed. Really cool looking boards.
How good is this, surfing is the source.
Great video! I remember a lot of those boards from that era. Rode a couple when Cheyne and I swapped out in the surf. Don't remember one with a full picture spray on the bottom though? That wasn't McCoy-ish at all. Wonder if that was done as part of a resto when they did the rails? Doubt it. Good to see the rarely sighted Impressario, Mr Adrian Esposito.
Thankyou! What a little gem of a video! Perfect
Popular televised Oceanside contest announced by David Stanfield when he knew nothing about surfing brad Gerlach was surfing so frikin good in that contest. It's a classic.
Awesome Great Vid.
That's a Geoff McCoy surfboard with Flyers, before the first needle nosed Lazor Zaps.
I love this...I would love to see the specs
