Thank you, I am Panamanian and live in North Carolina and can’t wait to move back to my beautiful tierra.
I visited Panama City. I was harassed immediately upon arrival by the migration. I was the only white person in the airport and got pulled out of line. My son was arrested because he didn't have $500 in his wallet. He was not allowed in the country. I was finally allowed into the country. I showed everything. My air&b had both our names. The airport security was absolutely the most terrible experience. This airport hates white people that are Americans. I will never return.
Hey where in NC ? I'm in Columbia SC
@@trdriver430 I live in Greenville but moving back to Charlotte soon. I used to live in Columbia and I loved it there. Used to work at the NE library.
@@Ddm7879 I always hear Greenville is awesome good to hear you liked Columbia. Charlotte has lots of jobs.
Yes, please move back
Thank you so much for eloquently highlighting my country. I live in the USA now and I'm contemplating moving back since I'm approaching retirement age. I miss the friendly atmosphere and hospitality, customs and of course food.
Yo también! Everything you said!
I was just in Panama City 2 weeks ago and really enjoyed it thinking about moving there now! Excellent vid!!!
Thank you for this wonderful video! I was born in Panamà however grew up in NY. Went back to visit family in 2022 and I'm looking forward to returning for vacation towards the end of the year. Viva Panamà 🎉🇵🇦
WOW! I’m loving your take on Panama City and Coronado. I was also considering Mexico as a possible retirement destination but, your excellent review of the Country gives me pause now😳 I now want to see what you’ve experienced in Panama. I will definitely refer back to your blog as I move closer to retirement along with a few trips! Thank you!😊
I’m with Anthony on this one 🤙🏼 Been scoping MX too but always looking for something better
Coronado is a slum. Take off your rose-colored glasses and look closely. Pay attention to the condition of the main road and all the dirt roads. They will destroy your vehicle's suspension. Ask about powere and water outages. Think hard about what there is to do in the area - the answer seemed to be "not much besides drink." Lot of old expats getting drunk before noon.
Check out PLAYA BLANCA, not far from Coronado. It has several beautiful resorts with apartment buildings and houses inside these very secure Resorts.
Hi Jessica! This is Paula (we met at Fast Track a few months ago). I absolutely LOVE your video. And now I don't need to explain all of this to my friends and family...I'm just gonna share your link. Thank you for posting!!!
I visited Panama last December and would consider retiring there at some point to escape the cold Chicago winters.
Thank you for sharing a very personal and honest tour of Panama.
Panamá is so beautiful
So happy for you, Jessica! I’ve been watching you for years and so enjoy seeing your love for Panama 🇵🇦 I’m in Las Olas now, heading back to David and then Boquete. I was in PTY last year and it was great. Loved the Biodiversity Museo, canal and history. And you’re so right… the people make the country! 💗
Spectacular scenery and awesome info, Jess! The Coronado city council should be paying you a sweet commission for each new expat arrival =)
Another Great Informative Video. Thanks Jessica
😊🏝️
Hi Jessica! Great video, you really covered a lot and I know many will benefit from your insights . I can’t believe I haven’t run into you lately! As you know I’ve been living and enjoying Coronado for 16 years and still thoroughly enjoying hosting International guests in my casitas, and rental condos. Remember you interviewed me many years ago when you lived in the City? So much fun! . I’m delighted that you decided on Coronado to live, and I hope to see you soon! Cheers and hugs, Panama Sarah.
Hi Sarah do you have a one bedroom or studios for rent ? I am arriving on July 25th . About 10 days . Please let me know if there are availability, thanks .
I can't wait to visit. August 14-24, 2024!
Great video! I’ve been in Panama almost 5 years! So much to explore and the people are wonderful.
Great information, thank you.
Great video! Thank you. Now I know where I will spend the first 3 months of my retirement.
Jessica, We first met you at our first IL Conference in Las Vegas when you were new to IL. It was because of you that we came to Panama City for our next IL conference. Alas, it was not time for us to retire. Now that we are retired and still in Seattle. You are like the the Sirens luring sailors is Homer's "The Odyssey". In this ancient Greek epic, Odysseus encounters the Sirens during his journey home from the Trojan War. The Sirens are mythical creatures whose enchanting music and voices are irresistible to sailors, causing them to steer their ships toward the Sirens' island. In this case, "island" is spelled, "Panama." Keep up the good reporting.
Great video thx for sharing
I just came across your video. Thank you for the information. It has crosses my mind to consider Panama as a retirement destination. I am many years away from retirement, but I believe it is would be wise to visit and see how I like it.
Very nice. Love Panama 🇵🇦
Thanks 😊 there is much to do in panama 🇵🇦. My home country 👍
Real estate prices In Coronado and other areas on the west coast are overpriced . Market conditions have dropped considerably. Get a proper independent property evaluation if you are buying. Most sellers have made up prices for their properties.
Very informative video.
You had me at coffee❤
Thanks for your generous comments. Not a country without trouble but safer than others around.
I want to rent a 1bed in Panama during the wet season each year for 6 months and keep my location in the US the rest of the calendar year. I am not wild about the big city. I need reliable internet and wifi. I am learning Spanish but spoke it as a child. I hope to land in a safe and welcoming community ❤.
I was born in that beautiful country!! 🇵🇦🇵🇦
Me too !
Great video. I began my subscription to IL back in late 2010 when I was ready to leave the US and live abroad which I did. Been slow-traveling the world ever since then. I’ve been living in Cambodia for close to 2 years. Love it. It’s extremely cheap to live here. I really wish I could say the same thing about Panama City, Panama. From all reports it’s become quite expensive there, even more than the safest city in North America… Merida, Mexico! Too many Americans and Canadians moving there making it more expensive for everyone, expats and locals alike: Gentrification. Sad.
Thanks for sharing that you’re living in Cambodia! We're always looking for new stories and experiences to feature on the International Living website. If you'd like to share your journey and insights, we'd love to hear from you.
Coronado is a weekend condo get-a-way spot for rabiblancos from the city. No place to live year round. Everything there is very first class ..... there's just not a lot of "everything" to choose from. You better have a car and have no problem with insane weekend traffic. Boooooring place. RE agents oversell it. I'm a US expat living in Panama since 1998.
Welcome and enjoy paradise 🌴😊❤️🇵🇦❤️
Best yube video ever. thank you,
That’s really brave to move somewhere where you know no one. I’d love to do that
, you're great at talking and dreaming though.
Congratulations 🎊
Thanks❤
How would you compare Panama city or coronado vs roatan? We are looking at both to move to.
This was very interesting and informative Is that rent or purchase?
Hello, sorry to bother you may I ask your advice. We want to be 1.6 km to a dog friendly Carribbean beach. We would like a small house with a garden for our dogs, can you please suggest anywhere. 🙏
An apartment bought? How much a month you pay for living space? Because that’s the key and there’s no limit to the increases a year.
What are your monthly expenses for the condo HOA fees etc? What were other cost associated with buying your condo?
I'm surprised to hear you say you feel safe in Panama, I heard otherwise.
Would love to meet you when I come to Panama looking at August or September
What are the building service charges?
Do they have Uber and Lyft in Coronado or Panama City? Can you recommend a nice hotel or something decent doesn’t have to be fancy for solo travelers that are women. I love your energy one day. I would like to meet in person. I don’t know if you do tour guides I can’t believe the flights from New York City are very inexpensive into Panama City, also I’m wondering if there are any spiritual or holistic groups of people so I can do some healthy activities when I’m there. Thx, M❤
So the Pensionado Visa requirements of $1000 monthly income includes having a Social Security payment of at least 1k per month?
Is it worth it to take a car to Panama? Will I only pay 7% tax and other fees? What about the petrol prices?
What are the building association fees?
Greetings from Nueva Gorgona. I live 5 years now in Panama. I am always stunt why Americans compare Panamanian property prices with the USA prices! Nobody is actually paying attention to local prices compared to Panamanian incomes? No worries. If people have too much money to just spending it without have to turn it twice - congratulations! But that’s why most skyscrapers in Panama are still after years empty. Houses build in 2012!! are sold as new homes. Compare this to North America and Europe and everyone would just had a ringing alarm bell going off in their heads. If in the USA properties are not sold after 12 years, skyscrapers mostly empty - nobody would buy anything. If someone is visiting Panama City, just walk out at nightfall and look at the skyscrapers. Barely you see lights on all apartments. I get it that some people have only a vacation apartment and live somewhere else. But mostly the apartments didn’t got sold in the first place. Same with new house developments, especially in the Coronado area. Couple lots have a house on them. Most lots are empty. For years! Don’t get me wrong. I love Panama. But local people wouldn’t spend or can’t spend that much for properties or rent in Panama!
You give excellent reasons to rent and not buy!
That's why they're 1/5th of the price, Sherlock
@@KeepingItRealBro 1/5th of what price? No idea what you mean. To explain to anyone who is interested to buy a property in Panama. I lived 10 months in a beach community. Properties are sold between locals for around $30,000 (smaller lots) to $100,000 (for a newer big house). Than you have Americans. They come for 14 days, think they know everything. Take out their checkbook and pay $300,000 for a house or $100,000 for a lot. 3 months later, they just don’t like Panama anymore for what reason nobody knows. Now they like to sell the lot for $120,000 or the house for $350,000. You know. Americans know it all. And they like to make money. But this is Panama! The real estate market is in no comparison to North America or Europe where you sell a property in at least two weeks to 3 months. And don’t even think to “flip “ a house. In the beach community, there are 40-50% of houses empty, on the market for MANY YEARS! You are looking for a new house on the beach? El Rompio Los Santos Province. Very nice and big houses. You can even buy barely used houses including furniture. Price was around $140,000. I did take a look. A really humongous metal chain on the gate. The houses falling apart! Finished in 2014 and still “new houses” for sale. So. In 5 years, I only know people who lost money to finally get rid of their properties. Because they just paid Gringo prices! - Again. I was in the market and drove around. Checking places & prices. If you use common sense, you can only say NO GRACIAS. Apartment or Condo in a gated community where you have to pay a couple hundred dollars for maintenance? What maintenance? When the paint is already falling off the walls & balconies? The metal starts rusting? NO GRACIAS. A lot on the beach for $300,000 and more? Right. Where the ocean is eating up your property? And if not, the ocean brings you plastic garbage over night. If you talk about Panama. Please talk about the real Panama. And if nothing of the mentioned “small issues “ to own a beach property doesn’t matter to you, then maybe the Airbnb right beside your property or close by. Loud music and parties until 5 in the morning. Don’t matter if you live in Panama City or the beach area. Panamanians don’t care about you or neighbors. They just party from Friday to Sunday and leave. - Did I got myself a property in Panama? Absolutely! A small lot. Paid the same as my Panamanian future neighbors in the area. Not one cent more. - Do I care if Americans throw around with money and buy to ridiculous prices? A little. Do I care that they need years to get rid of it? Not really. Do I care about that they lose a lot of money when they sell. Absolutely not. - Just use common sense!
What’s a typical cost of breakfast or dinner out, at a touristy and a non touristy restaurant?
Five dollar
I’m tired of the rat race in the US. I was originally looking to move to Mexico but because of the high crime I’m looking at other Latin American countries. Definitely looking at a place that has a lot of ex pats. Thank you! My “ family “ in NYC is mostly Dominican, but I have no plan on going to the Dominican Republic or moving there. The idea that someplace has coffee that’s as good as the coffee that’s in Italy. It’s wonderful..
Rome. You're welcome
Only $1,000 p/mo pension income but one certainly can’t live on that. Whereas Mexico now requires anywhere from $6,000 to $7,500 US Pension income for full time residency, depending on what State you live in and apply from, and a person can live on $1,000 US p/mo there.
did she say "mild tropical weather"? more like humid, suffocating weather.
Best is leaving on the beaches
Hi🌈 I'm thinking of relocating to Coronado, also as a single 😊 do you have anyone you know I can contact there about paperwork etc??
How much are your HOA fees please?
Hi Jessica thanks for great video
What’s the name of your building? And how many bedrooms are in your apartment? Is there any one bedroom rental available? I’ve booked a ticket for 24th of July!
Your input will be greatly appreciated

The beauty you see in me is reflection of yourself!
I was going to move to Panama, until I started hearing about all the civil unrest going on. Is this still going on? Does it happen often?
I live in Panama. Yes, protests are a part of life here. This past year road blocks for over 4 weeks from protests about the mine, salaries, cost of living expenses.
They were peaceful protests.
😍 unfortunately I need excellent health care especially for my back so I am leery of moving from the 🇺🇸
Me too... doesn't that SUCK !!!
Me too man, after serving in the military. Panama has a lot of good hospitals that is the reason I'm considering moving there. Health care is dirt cheap.
@@papi7672- they even have care established for US veterans.
9:20 For those who say Panamanians don't wear shorts.
Congratulations! It's a great property but beachfront, it is not.
I'd estimate the beach is a mile away which is okay as less sea salt, traffic and noise
No, you can not drink the water from the top. Have your water tested.
🎉👋👋👍👍🌹🌹🌹❤️💯😇✌️🙂🎉
I'm single,American man looking for a roommate!
I'm a single American woman also looking for a roommate. What area are you looking at?
Sex in the city lifestyle?
Suburbs more like
Panama is expensive, while more developed than it's neighbors its still not the 1st world
I live in New York City, and trust me, Panama City is CHEAP.
@@guillermogouldburn763 cheap compared to NYC yes, but you can't compare Panama City and NYC, it's apples and oranges. NYC is the financial capital of the world and one of the world's megacities. Panama City isn't that cheap compared to places like Dallas Fort Worth or even Chicago which are more comparable. Rents are on par with those US cities.
@@sbkpilot1 Do you get jubilado discounts in Chicago? Can you take the subway from the city center to the airport for 85 cents in Chicago? Can you Uber anywhere for 4 dollars? Can you just pay 25 cents to take the bus? You need to look at the whole picture to see the financial benefits. Rent is just one factor to consider among many. I can't wait to retire in Panama and cut my costs in half.
I live in NYC and Panama City and my quality of life is far better in Panama. My property taxes alone in NY are ridiculous. I can live like a king on that amount alone and don’t have to pay ANY taxes in Panama.
@@guillermogouldburn763from NYC, every place is cheap!
1st world city, jajajajaja
