  • I've enhanced the 1972 Week 11 Cardinals at Dolphins game. I upscaled, denoised, sharpened, and doubled the framerate with Topaz. I then used Da Vinci Resolve to adjust color and to give it a big boost, as the original source was very drab. My thanks to romelovesdan for providing me the DVD files used for this project.

People forget the perfect season MIA played nine of its games with an aging backup QB Earl Morrall who didn't do so well in the Orange Bowl for Shula in Super Bowl III. Otherwise a decent career. I have a lot of the games you've fixed on DVD-R. You're doing a good job enhancing them (and preserving them).

    Howard Cosell’s opening remarks I agree with about any team can beat any team, it’s so true and why the 1972 Miami Dolphins 🐬 are the best team to ever play in the NFL, Other teams have come close in other years and seasons such as the 2007 New England patriots who came within a field goal , the San Francisco 49ers went 15-1 once and so did the Chicago Bears but they all lost atleast one game. I’m not a dolphins fan but it’s hard to win every single game in an NFL season, the dolphins of that season did it which to me is a very special moment in time in NFL history

      Tom Dempsey kicked a 63 yard field goal in this era(1970 IIRC). When he did it, the goalposts were on the goal line as they were in this game(until 1975). This means he kicked it from his own 37 yard line. Today, many coaches won't try a FG from their opponents 37 yard line(55 yard FG) and would either punt or go for it. Just some kicking food for thought.

      Sorry Lawrence, but no chance. It's a major miracle that 90 minutes of the 68 Championship exists, but that is actually the oldest color broadcast of an NFL game that is currently out there in the world. Unfortunately I'd guess over 99% of all games prior to 1976 have not survived, and the majority that have are Monday Night Football contests and postseason games.

      ua-cam.com/video/mBAVqhaCwd8/v-deo.html
      ua-cam.com/video/jGWYpazCX_I/v-deo.html
      I actually had 6, but the Raiders at Oilers game I did eventually got blocked for copyright.
      It's hard to find full games PERIOD before 1976 - the videotapes just weren't saved by the networks because of cost. Starting around 76-77 the home VCR market gained a foothold and there are A LOT of games that survive. Aside from just a couple games, all of the ones that do survive prior to 76 are ABC Monday Night Football recordings, which made it past the purge for whatever reason.
      There's some playoff games out there from 68, 69, 70, 73, 74, and 75, plus the Super Bowls, but a lot of them are partials or substandard quality.

    So MNF started in 1970? Their had to be at least 14 nationally televised games per year. Why is it from 1970-1976 their are so few games available. I’m assuming they are archived in a nfl museum. WTF! The nfl could make tons of money releasing these games. I’m assuming it was beta technology or whatever? I just don’t understand why their are not more games available. Perhaps someone could explain this to me. Why are their just a few that have surfaced. Who is hiding all of these games? 😂

    • @davevolskysbackdoor5673
      @davevolskysbackdoor5673  9 місяців тому +1

      Nope, they aren't 'archived' anywhere - they just don't exist. 99% of all games prior to 1976 don't exist because the networks didn't keep recordings of most of the games and instead taped over them. Videotape was super-expensive, they had a limited number of them, they would never re-air them, and they had no practical means of archiving them even if they wanted to. The majority of the games that DO exist prior to 1976 are the MNF contests. For whatever reason several of them did survive somehow, which is a major miracle. Starting around 1976 or 77 the home VCR market started gaining a foothold and thus home viewers started to record games, which is why starting around 1977 a LOT more games are out there.

    • @dantheman5745
      @dantheman5745 Рік тому +1

      You're exactly right, IMO, Nathaniel. And I agree completely that they are indeed overrated. MANY people refer to them as the greatest team of all time. That's sort of the very definition of "overrated." As JosePerez said, Don Shula himself said that the '73 Dolphins were a better team.
      The '72 Dolphins were the best team...in 1972, as was punctuated by their post-season run. But during the regular season, their opponents had a .367 win percentage. That is a historically weak schedule. They didn't face a single playoff-bound team. And other than the 7-7 Jets in their own division, they only played 1 team (the 8-6 Chiefs) who finished as high as 2nd place. Their entire schedule was vs the dregs of the League.
      To their credit, the '72 Dolphins went undefeated vs every non-playoff team they faced in the regular season. Then, because they were the best team that year, they ran the table in the post-season.
      However the '76 Raiders also went undefeated vs every non-playoff team they faced, and then ran the post-season table. As did the '78 Steelers. And the '82 Redskins. And the '84 49ers. And the '85 Bears. And the 2008 Steelers. And the 2010 Steelers.
      The difference was, all of these other teams had to play good opponents during the regular season. (I think it's also fair to throw the '62 Packers in with this bunch, as Green Bay went 13-1 en route to the NFL Championship, with their only lose coming vs the 11-3 Lions)
      The '72 Dolphins were a great team. Just not the greatest. I personally would go with either the '84 Niners (who were a bogus pass interference call vs Pittsburgh away from a 19-0 season) or the '85 Bears.

    • @dolphingoosby7195
      @dolphingoosby7195 Рік тому +2

      You can only play the schedule you are given. Look how close they came to going undefeated in back to back seasons. Now, take the starting quarterback off of any superbowl championship team for 10 games and see if they go undefeated. The Dolphins in 1973 lost 2 games, ( Colts, Raiders) but also split games with those 2 teams. As a matter of fact, in the 4 prior games with the Colts they shut them out! Then the crushed the Raiders in the AFC CHAMPIONSHIP game. The difference in the 2 seasons is that you saw Griese in 1973 more. In 1972 you THOUGHT they could lose but they didn't, in 1973 you knew they would win and did.
