    Never would have thought so at the time, but this turned out to be the final career playoff win for Tom Landry.

      That hadn't occurred to me until I read your comment. Within a couple seasons, making the playoffs would start to be a problem for the Cowboys. Landry was a gentleman, in the best sense of the word, in addition to being a great coach.

      @@tomfoolery815Back in the late 60's or early 70's my Mom met the entire Cowboys team. We lived in Milwaukee during the 60's until they passed away in the late 90's. My Mom grew up in Milwaukee. She worked weekends at a fancy restaurant in Downtown Milwaukee. The Cowboys were playing the Packers. She said that Tom Landry was a absolute gentleman and a great person. Plus they left them a $$HUGE TIP$$. I always liked Tom Landry as a boy, but for me he reminded me of my Grandfather. He always dressed in a similar way and he always had on a nice hat. If I remember correctly they stayed at the Pfister Hotel and the restaurant was called the Casino or something. It was a great memory my Mom told me of my very very young baby days.

    1982 was a really great year and a very tough year. My all-time favorite baseball team, the Brewers had made it. They won their Division, and then they made the World Series! Then they lost. The Packers hasn't been in the playoffs like this for a while. I honestly don't remember this game. The really bad part of 82 happened in November. November 13th to be exact. My Grandpa, who helped raise me, was my best friend when I was a little boy, had a massive heart attack and passed away. I wasn't prepared for this. Death, well I wasn't good dealing with it. The rest of that year, and 83 is a blur. I started High School in 83. I played football, but that year was missing a big part of my childhood. Thank you for showing this game. I don't even know if I watched it. I'm sure we had it on at home but I honestly don't remember much of it. The Packers I do know lost, but just getting there was impressive. Thanks again sir, you always seem to have a game that really means something to me. Thank you.

    This is a game which I've had very good source files for a long time, but only just now decided to work on enhancing them. Used Topaz to upscale, denoise, and sharpen things up, and Da Vinci Resolve to adjust contrast and to remove a greenish hue that the picture had, making the color look a lot better than before. Employed a 'de-flicker' filter in Resolve to minimize analog-tv flicker that was present in the original recording. Audacity was used to remove audio noise. You can see several before/after screenshots here -- imgbox.com/g/TAWhcWRz1j -- My thanks to romelovesdan for providing the DVD files used for this project.

    Very clean and vibrant presentation that belies the age of this game. This was a strange contest, and very frustrating for a Cowboys fan. After some initial back and forth, Dallas finally seemed to seize control of the game by halftime. But the resilient Packers kept coming back on the strength of their unstoppable offense (466 total yards on the day, 366 of them coming in the second half) and stalked the Cowboys the entire second half.

    Lynn Dickey and Bert Jones were my favs of this era. I've long argued that Bert was light-years better than Terry but had to do EVERYTHING and never got over the hump having to deal with the Raiders and Steelers at their peak.
    Lynn just had horrible luck with injuries but the years he was healthy, the numbers speak from themselves. 4k+ yards in THAT era is epic. Man had zero run game and said so himself...

    • @zagnorch1336
      @zagnorch1336 4 місяці тому

      Your "Better-Than-Bradshaw-BUT" argument can also apply to Cincinnati Bengals QB Ken Anderson, who had the misfortune of playing in the same division as Bradshaw's Steelers during their dynastic run. During their pair of annual face-offs, the Steelers were good enough where Bradshaw could afford to make an occasional mistake, whereas Anderson couldn't make a single one if the Bengals had any chance of beating Pittsburgh.

    • @phfighter9465
      @phfighter9465 4 місяці тому +1

      @zagnorch1336 I absolutely cannot disagree with your commentary...Kenny was good enough to win mvp in a handful of seasons and arguably ran Bill Walsh's west coast offense better than Montana in 75 as he consistently threw over 62% completion multiple seasons in an era where the wr could be clobbered downfield. In 75 and 76, he single handedly willed his team to multiple 10 win seasons but also had to face the Steelers 2x a year. He didn't come close either season to beating the steelers.
      I didn't include him simply because I strongly believe he's singularly THE most underrated player in the most important position in the history of the game and its a crime he's not in the HOF.
      Bert and Lynn were done in by injures and not surrounded by quality staff. Having Bill Walsh as an OC in 75 was a tremendous meshing with Anderson's uncanny accuracy.
      Ive always gravitated to Bert and Lynn because of their swagger and gunslinger style and I like underdogs. Ken Anderson was more of a scientist on the field surgically dissecting defenses not called the Steel Curtain🤣

Two teams... the Cincinnati Bengals and Detroit Lions had loosing records at 4-5. Thankfully the NFL brought in replacement players for the next strike in 1987 and only one game was scrapped. Never again would games be cancelled because of a labor dispute as the NFL showed the Player's Union who was boss.

      I looked at the rosters and I couldn't really find any huge player losses. In fact they drafted Tim Lewis who had 16 INT in his 1st 3 seasons, but then had a career ending neck injury. The 83 team was really bad vs the run (2600 yards allowed) and was good the previous year (3.4 YPC). Maybe scheme change or injuries or something.
