    Good first arrival video.
    Good traditional fire ops.
    However, this is 2023. I’ve said this before, and I will keep preaching the usefulness of The Transitional Attack. Also, why are we only deploying one hand line? Master Streams, deck guns, ladder pipes, TFT Blitz, etc. to start. Then move to 1-3/4 preconnects.
    Fire doubles every 30 seconds, so every second counts!

      I worked for a large dept in the south for a little bit over 20 years starting in the early 90's, it was standard practice for the first in engine to start dumping tank water through the deck gun if the fire was readily accessible. We didn't call it a transitional attack, but the backup FF would hit it from the yard while the nozzleman masked up and irons went for the door. They'd swap places while the backup masked up and then follow the truck crew inside. It wasn't true transitional attack in the sense of how crews use it these days, but it was the same concept, the faster you get water on a fire the faster conditions improve.

      @@virgilhilts3924 Would you be willing to take a moment and share with the UA-cam community when a “Deck Gun” should be used. I mean they’re still making and installing them, and if so-equipped, engine companies have them at their disposal. They must have some use. Even if it doesn’t pertain to this video, you seem to go after anyone who dares mention their use. Obviously if firefighters are inside, you’re not going to open up on a window or door, but in what circumstances are they effective and useful, and when are they not. I’m very interested in this as I enjoy watching the departments at work. And I’m not a firefighter.

    • @kowalski3769

      It's a volunteer fire department. These guys don't live or work at the station. They have other jobs. They are home and in bed at night or they are at their day jobs when the call comes in. They need to get out of bed and put clothes on, drive to the fire department, get their trucks and get to the fire as quickly as possible. Some of them are dressing in the fire trucks as they respond to the scene. Others are driving to the scene with their own personal vehicles if they they miss the departure of the engines from the fire department. They can't get dressed in their cars if they are driving themselves. They are dressing as quickly as they can.
      Give it a try sometime. Have a friend of yours call you randomly at 2:30 in the morning and see how fast you can get to the fire department a few miles away from your home, change into your fire gear, get in the fire engine if it hasn't left already, drive to a fire you know nothing about, find the fire hydrant, connect the hoses, charge the lines, etc,etc, and get to fire fighting. They do the best they can do. Not every city or town can afford a professional fire department unfortunately.

    Dumb question but what does it mean to "charge the line"?

  • @Marrio49
    @Marrio49 Рік тому +18

    The first company in should’ve pulled up in front of the fire and used the deck gun with tank water while the pump operator was setting up the hydrant. The deck gun could’ve pretty much put out that fire, or at least put a major dent in it. This happens so many times on these fire videos. So many fire departments lack the proper leadership with qualified chiefs and offices. You see this all the time on these videos.
    The deck gun is the most unused piece of apparatus in fire departments.

    • @davecarsley8773
      @davecarsley8773 10 місяців тому +2

      Lol. Absolutely NO CHANCE the deck gun is putting out that fire.

    • @Marrio49
      @Marrio49 10 місяців тому

      I never said it would have completely put the fire out. I said at minimum it would have knocked it down significantly. Its purpose is to get immediate water with 1200-1500 GPM on a fire especially when it’s on an A B D side. Deck guns put out more GPM than 1 3/4 and 2 1/2 inch lines. This fire was predominantly on an A side or street side ideally located for a deck gun. The chief should have known this. Instead he orders the engine to pull past the fire dwelling a poor decision at the least. The deck gun action takes place while the hydrant is being connected. if you were experienced you’d know this. It’s what big city FD’s do like Boston and FDNY at Engine’s first arrival if possible. First order is to get water on the fire asap while ladder companies attempt rescue operations.
      People here seem to enjoy contradiction and disqualifying comments which only shows their ignorance. It must feed their overinflated egos to feel superior especially when most don’t know what they’re talking about. He who laughs last laughs the hardest.

You get in and don your pack immediately, especially if you hear working fire. If you have time, turn your bottle on and connect your mask to the valve. When you arrive, grab the line, flake it out, don your mask, draw a breath and now your on air. This is so pitiful to watch these clowns in operation. What I see all the time in the US. Multi million dollars worth of equipment, best Fire trucks in the world but part time firefighters who have no idea on how to fight a fire. What I would have given for these Fire trucks in my day. They do not seem to understand that water puts out fires. They have no idea on where their hydrants are. Really hard to watch these homes burning to the ground. At least they saved some part of it.
