We lost our redbone hound to cancer in February. I was googling songs about pet loss shortly after and came across this adorable and beautiful song. First time I cried like a baby, but it has become extremely cathartic for me. Dolly is a treasure, and this song has been helpful.
It's crazy, that you can still remember the year you heard it last, looks like it really had an impact on you. I love Dolly Parton and that's a good song, no doubt about it.

However, I do live shows in clubs and restaurants, so when i heard this song - for the very first time on Heartstrings - I wanted to hear the whole song to see if it would be good for my shows. i didn't realise that she was such an accomplished guitarist it can take years to get to that level of expertise of finger picking. But what's with that huge wig what was she thinking ?
Felixq78 Dolly is not an accomplished guitarist. She has her guitar open tuned so she won't have to form chords. With open tuning you don't have to form chords with your fingertips. You can just lay one finger across the neck of the guitar to make a chord. Some musicians call it cheating.

I love dogs and I can't remember when I didn't have one. You can never replace a beloved pet but we can always love all the ones we have.
