In Norway kids start learning English in the second or third grade (age 7-8) and have a *lot* of classes for the first few years, and while gradually you have fewer dedicated English classes they do continue throughout upper secondary-school (until the age of 18 or 19). And since we don't dub television show besides those for toddlers, kids these days develop a very solid vocabulary early on. Magnus had an extra advantage since his family lived abroad for a while when he was a kid and also travelled a lot when he was working toward his grandmaster title. Still, I'd say that in spite of his international lifestyle and social circle, today he has a heavier accent than most Norwegians his age.

This is wrong. Karjakin was born on January 12, 1990, Magnus was born on November 30, 1990 making him younger than Karjakin. How could he be the youngest GM achieving it at the age of 13 while Karjakin did it at 12 being older?

Unless a top player throws up his hands and says "no thanks" to the system, FIDE has no pressure to change for the better.
