This is a fantastic video! It's basically a Haynes manual in motion. I love that you show the socket size every time and the proper way to remove that transfer gear. Excellent work!

Thank You for this excellent video. I have an AWD 41AE in a 3.8 2002 T&C, started slipping. replaced solenoid pack and speed sensors - did not improve. Added bottle of Lucas Transmission Fix. Helped greatly. Looking at doing a rebuild as it still jerks when downshifting.

Mine has 210,000 miles still going strong only replace the external solenoid pack and the speed sensors and change the fluid every 20,000 miles

how do we set bearing preload on the differential housing bearings please? thanks -Ray

Setting the preload is a bit complex if you have never done it before. I wouldn't be able to explain it well enough here without doing a video. But, you can check this link, www.uscars.biz/uscars/extras-documents/ATRA_Chrysler_41TE_604_Rebuild_Procedures.pdf ........It should show the tools, shims, procedures, and specifications needed. Hope this helps.

Can you tell me the name of that white marking pen you use? Better than yellow one I have. Thanks for the info!

Do you use gasket when reinstalling the gear cover back on? My cover is leaking and I don't think it has a gasket, looks like form a gasket sealant was used. Is there a part number for the gasket? Oreilly and Autozone does not have it in their computers. 2000 Caravan Sport 3.3 engine. Edit...Oreillys only has the cover gasket for the 3 speed transmission

You do not have to use a gasket. Black RTV silicone is usually what is used. If you want to use a gasket, I would recommend checking rockauto or ebay

@@thingstoconsider5186 Same here. 204,000 miles on our 2000 3.3 GC Changing out diff. and output and transfer gear cover gaskets with the trans still in. I hope I can do the diff. cover gasket exchange without any extra work. I just may visit a junkyard to test my luck to see what I'm up against. Thank you for both for the gasket info and awesome video. 10/10 One of the best I've seen. Very helpful with all your tips and guidance.

Great video! I have an 03 town and country with the 3.8l, pacifica struts and 30" tires. If I was to swap the transfer gears with a 3.3l or a 2.0l stratus, would I need to re-shim them from scratch or are the tolerances tight/loose enough to reuse shims?

per the repair manual......anytime the roller bearing for the input/transfer gears are replaced or the gears themselves are replaced or if those gears are removed and installed,,,,,,the end play and turning torque have to be checked to make sure that the preload is correct.

    • @jackwagonsplaylists
      @jackwagonsplaylists 4 роки тому

Would you consider this a worthwhile modification?

I honestly don't know. I have only done original replacement/rebuilds going back with same parts with no modifications. Are you trying to achieve higher gas mileage? If so, I have never looked into that, but that would be worth while.

@@thingstoconsider5186 I'm trying to over correct for the added diameter and weight of switching from a roughly 27" tire to a nearly 31" all terrain truck tire. If this were a truck, I'd swap the ring and pinion gear to offset bigger tires but I think that swapping the transfer gears with one's that have a deeper reduction might have the same effect when multiplied by the bull(?) And ring gear in the diff. Fwd is clearly not my specialty but I understand the concept and Suzuki used a highrange gear reduction in their transfer case (1.2:1 stock) that the aftermarket tweaked up to 1.4:1 to allow for about 4" taller tires to feel stock and correct the speedometer. The 3.3l had a 47:49 tooth set while the stratus had a 46:50. I haven't found the stock 3.8 numbers but it was different than the 3.3l and had the highest final drive ratio of 3.45:1. If changing the transfer gears were easy enough, I'd do it while I changed the filter before mounting the bigger tires. Otherwise, I'll just cross my fingers and hope it doesnt let the smoke out

I see.....that is definitely not something that I have ever considered. You have probably already tried different forums that address what you are doing? But, if not that may be the way to go. Hope it all works out and let me know what you find please.

I thought I could change clutch plates and bushings with the valve body in place. Nope, must remove it to slide all the pistons and drums out the front.

    Hello.
Does a Chrysler Grand Voyager IV 3.3 (RG) have this transmission "41TE"?
Do I need "special tools" to overhaul this automatic transmission?
I have to replace parts from the "schredded" planetary gear. And perhaps some other parts (?).
    Thanks.
Btw, is there a good video for dissasemble this transmission from the car?

What year is your Grand Voyager? Chrysler used the A604/41TE (4 speed automatic transmission) from the 1980's up to around 2010? The early models were called A604 and later called 41TE, but they are all similar if the engine is a 3.3 with minor variations. You can do a Wikipedia search and it should show you which transmission your vehicle has, or owners manual, transmission number, etc...............You will need special tools, but I modified a lot of tools and was able to make them work..........I haven't searched you tube so far on transmission removal from vehicle. Hope this helps.

      2001. In my "2001" user manual, I can't find a type like 41TE or A604.
Is there a list of special tools (internet...)?
Seeger ring pliers / snap ring pliers I do not mean with "special tool".

check this link.. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chrysler_Voyager for the different transmissions that were used for your vehicle year, model, etc, it shows 2001 to be generation 4,,,,,,if your transmission is a 4 speed automatic, it is a 41TE. Check this link, www.uscars.biz/uscars/extras-documents/ATRA_Chrysler_41TE_604_Rebuild_Procedures.pdf .for a list of tools shown to disassemble an older 41TE/604 transmission.

The speedometer needle bouncing around is most likely due to a faulty output speed sensor..........have you tried replacing the filter and fluid yet?
