Didn’t know this was real until my gf started crying from the next day.
I grew up with a dog so I know they can be a lot more stubborn then they look, but didn’t know it would be such a psychological stress to somebody who never experienced them.
      Thank u for the infos!

I am totally losing my mind! I got a 6 month old puppy. He is now 9 months and hasn’t changed a bit. He’s learned commands and is completely potty trained and crate trained at night, but the constant jumping and biting are overwhelming. He’s gained 18 pounds in 2 months. I feel like I’m failing him because I didn’t have the opportunity of getting him when he was younger.

I definitely have the puppy blues. Getting a puppy was an item on my bucket list for a long time. I've read books, watched videos and dog sat for friends over the last several years. I thought I was prepared. I wasn't. It all cost way more in time, money and effort than I thought it would. I've been on my own during COVID, and I thought it would be a good time to get a puppy since I'm housebound. I didn't factor in how much attention it would take during work hours. Work has eased up a little, and Jerry is learning more and can hold "it" longer. So, things are getting easier. But, OMG!!!!!!!!! it's been hard. Within the first three days, I was on my kitchen floor crying. I really did think this was the absolute dumbest decision I've made in my life. Now that things are a little easier, and I've been able to socialize him more, I'm much happier. But, I cried just a couple of days ago when he had two back to back accidents, when he had every opportunity to do the right thing (and he was doing the right thing consistently). I adopted Jerry back in August. It's hard. Hang in there, everyone!

It's like I'm reading a summary of my first month with my puppy! He was pooping everywhere, barking through the night, he was sad and withdrawn and yet would bark his little head off every time I left him alone ... it was a nightmare! Just like OP, I found myself on the living room floor bawling my eyes out while cleaning dog poop off my hardwood floors. it felt as if I had just commited the worst mistake of my life.
Things got a lot better for me after the 1st month. He still had accidents, he still barked through the night but slowly we started to understand each other. He's almost 7 months old now and I can't imagine life without him. Hang in there, whoever is reading this! It gets better!

Definitely experienced the puppy blues in the first week of getting my baby. I felt SO DEPRESSED! Overwhelmed with the feeling that I had ruined my life because of the responsibility! I felt so guilty for thinking I may need to re home him because of the lack of connection and anxiety!
He’s 3 months old now and has become my best friend, I absolutely ADORE him even though he’s a little monster sometimes! 😅 I’m so happy the puppy blues passed! I sympathise with anyone experiencing it 🌷

Hi guys! I’m sorry you’re experiencing the blues 🌷 From experience, it really isn’t a nice time at all so my thoughts go out to you.
Yes! I have tips that REALLY helped me and I wish someone would have told me! So, in hindsight I think the reason for which I felt so bad was the “lack of connection” I couldn’t understand him nor him understand me! He felt alien to me and it made me feel guilty and bad for not “loving him”.
The first and only thing that helped me overcome it all was: TRAINING, sounds silly and pathetic but I tried and tried to train him for 2/3 days and he wouldn’t respond (I felt worse) then one random day I just said “SIT” and he sat!! My heart thumped! And I think the spark was lit! Lol I felt like a proud momma. Suddenly I started to love him and realised that my emotions were not actually caused by “him” but he was more just like a “trigger” of all the lack of confidence and patience I have in myself!
I hope this helps in some way. Just be patient and compassionate with yourself 🌷 Our minds play tricks on us specially when past traumas or lack of confidence is lying around. The mind will be triggered by these events and tell us things like “what have you done!” “You can’t do this!” So we just gotta be kind to ourselves and give ourselves time to adapt 🌷 Good luck guys! Keep me updated on how it’s going! I genuinely care 🌻
P.s remember that we’re all different so different strategies will work for different people don’t despair if you haven’t found your strategy yet, be patient 😘🌷

@@shaynaharper1457 the main thing that helped me is that I stopped putting pressure on me and on him. An accident happened? I accepted it and moved on. He barked through the night? I got ear plugs and finally managed to get some sleep. He peed on the couch? I have a good stain remover. And so on ... Basically trusting yourself that you can deal with whatever he/she throws your way and realizing that nothing, no matter how bad, is going to last forever helps. And not thinking that everything bad that happens is somehow catastrophic helps. Like if he cries through the night, he will be fine in the morning. If he has an accident, it doesn't mean he will never be potty trained. And so on ... Simply accepting that shit happens (sometimes very literally) despite our best intentions helps.
Also, and this is going to sound stupid, simply enjoying him helped me. Letting him on the couch with me and snuggling with him helped. Taking a nice walk in the afternoon helped. Spending time with him without having a "project" to work on (like potty training or tricks or whatever) helped. Just letting the puppy be a tiny goofus who just wants to lick your face helps. A lot of the puppy blues in the beginning was also generated by him not feeling 100% at home yet and me resenting him for it. Like in my mind I was turning my life upside down and he didn't even like me. lol It was really when I started showing him more and more affection that he started returning it 10 fold.

Thank you the video helped alot, I visited this video 2 months ago and cried coz I felt puppy blue. I wanna update today I don't anymore and realised few thing. And have my own few tips hope it's of some help.
    1. From past few days all u are doing is researching about puppies, especially videos that say DO THIS FROM DAY 1. You are too overwhelmed. Let me tell u it won't matter take ur damn time for God sake.
    2. Before getting puppy people would have asked you fe question like what are you gonna do if u have to go to work whole day, out of town, out of country and u probably said them some random solution like ya i will figure it out. Once u get puppy suddenly u start questioning yourself WHAT AM I GONNA DO?
solution: u are not going out today so let it go. And guess what u will figure it out once u are out of panic state. Kennel or friends or one of the member from dog community which u will eventually build.
    3 YOU ARE SLEEP DEPRIVED
guess what the best thing about a puppy.. U don't have to watch it 24 hours like a baby. Put them in a safe and comfy space they will be fine and probably snooze off. Go get some sleep. Worst case the puppy will pee or poop not the end of the world u can clean it.
    4. Watch something else on UA-cam apart from how to train this, can i feed that, 10 things u should do this kind of video. Go watch something apart from puppy related. U are most likely feeling puppy blue because now u feeling ur life is over. As soon as u release u have life outside this u will do just fine.
If u made it till here just know u are doing fine with puppy, ur puppy is fine, ur pupper has got the best parents even if not the best version yet, u are going to get better and for few weeks till u are confident enough to ignore STAY THE F AWAY FROM CRUNCHY KERENS who say stuff like, u are bad parent if u don't do everything right from day 1.

Thank you for acknowledging that puppy blues is a thing! We had no idea it existed until we experienced it ourselves, and it was a shock. It seemed like any article we read or video we watched to learn how to manage the situation said something like "X Mistakes YOU'RE making" or "how YOU'RE hurting your dog by doing these things", and we felt guilty, overwhelmed, and like we'd lost control over our lives. Luckily we're coming out of it slowly as our pupper approaches 12 weeks.

I felt this comment... I adopted him when he was around 2 months and have him for 1.5 months now. I have 2 roommates but I am the only caretaker right now. They are even irritated by the dogs barking all the time. I feel like there is no real end in sight and I feel like I am going insane. I cant seem to tire him out because I cant take him out for a walk before his shots finish. So I'm constantly playing with him whenever he is not sleeping... I know nothing he does is his fault, but I couldnt have one meal in piece in the last 1.5 months. I feel like I need a day off without him but nobody is really helping me... It's nice to know that I'm not alone, but it is the most lonely I've ever felt!

My basset passed away in 2016 and since then I’ve wanted another dog so bad. I started working full time last year and knew I didn’t have time to raise a puppy but still wanted a dog. I bought a house this summer with my sister. She works a lot of overtime so I found myself really ready to get a dog to come home to, play with, and have a best friend in like my basset. After contacting a nearby shelter multiple times and never hearing back, a friend told me her cousin was giving away her chocolate lab pup. She was 6 months so I figured she wouldn’t be too difficult since she was out of those really early puppy stages. I was so excited to go get her, and as soon as we walked in, she ran over to me and peed on my foot from excitement. My heart immediately dropped and I wondered what I had gotten myself into. I had had neighbors with labs and they were always the sweetest dogs. But this puppy was so hyper and crazy. I cried as I took her to my parents house. I cried as I took her out to pee every couple of hours throughout the night. I cried all day as I cleaned up her accidents. I cried as she had diarrhea and threw up her food-a trip to the vet confirmed it was just anxiety. I cried as she would steal something and then steal something else when I wasn’t looking. I cried as she cried in her crate while I showered. I missed my basset so much and just wanted a strong bond like that again, and I wasn’t getting it with dog. I also missed my cat my parents still had. I regretted jumping into it so quickly. I knew it would be hard work, but I didn’t have any idea how emotionally draining it would be.
It’s been three months now. She’s gotten way better. She still has those rough days, and I have those nights where I cry and just wish she would listen. But it’s gotten way better. She’s grown so much over the past few months.
I’m glad to see so many people here who know how I feel and what I’m talking about. I really felt kind of alone in all this and even thought “other people just adopt dogs and have no issues, why do I get a dog who’s so hard to handle?” But it gets better. It doesn’t feel like it is, but you look back and see how far you’ve come and you see that it has.
I’ve had to get up about 4 times while typing this to deal with the pup lol. One day we’ll have more good days than bad

And don’t get me wrong, I love her so much and can’t imagine re-homing her, but every time I explained these feelings of regret and overwhelm to others (even to myself), I felt like a bad person. I have always been a cat person but my husband loves dogs. I always knew we would get a puppy one day. We lost our beloved cat in November and with both of us working from home, we thought now is the time. ITS BEEN SO HARD. I was not prepared mentally or emotionally at all for how hard this was going to be, and I admit I have had major regrets. I thought it was just me. Its good to know that there's hope, haha.

This helped me so much. I’m suffering a major case of the puppy blues. After months of waiting so long for a puppy, she finally arrived last Friday and I’ve started regretting my decision so much. But after reading so much about people’s experiences, I’m feeling so much better. Especially since she’s started getting used to her crate and settling more quickly. Makes me feel like I’m doing a good job. It’s a long process, but she is so worth it.

Hang in there, I'm going through it too with my 9 week old puppy. He doesn't mind eating in his crate but just last night finally slept in there on and off. I have to go back to work today so he's going to have to spend a few hours in there... I'll be coming home for "lunch" after about 2 hours just to take him out and then it's back in until my roommate gets home 3 hours later... I feel so bad about having to leave him alone that I, a grown man, burst into tears when I found this video.
The biggest thing I can recommend if he's having trouble eating or sleeping without you is if you have a crate, let him eat in there and stay in the room but further and further away until he doesnt cry when you leave the room. I started out sitting beside the crate while he ate and within a few days was able to leave the room, door closed, and get some chores done until he was finished eating. Baby/puppy steps!!

thanks for making this video. I got a new puppy a week ago, and I haven’t been more overwhelmed in my entire life. I constantly have this feeling of regret, and that i’m ruining my life by keeping this dog. I know he’s just a puppy, but he’s so much work. My parents payed a lot of money for him so I won’t be re-homing him, but I just pray things get better. It’s so hard to love him and I feel so guilty because I just don’t yet. So many videos online talk about how their dog is their best friend, but i’m scared that by keeping him he’s only hating me, and i’m hating him. I hate admitting it but I’m so exhausted from constantly having to wake up in the middle of the night, and having to clean up accident after accident. I have 3 siblings, and none of them will help. My mom tries her best but she gets tired too and I just don’t know what to do. I can’t wait until the day he gets older/more mature and I can love him for the dog he is, and forget about the troubles i’m having with him at the moment. I ask if anyone reading this could just pray for me and that I learn to love my new puppy. thanks❤️

Lack of sleep, food, support system. I'm 3 months in (she's 5 months) and it's not going away anytime soon. I'm with you though, it's easy to feel like there's no hope, it won't get better, and I question things all the time, but there's more going on than just a puppy. There's a global pandemic, the weather is changing, even the darkness outside is starting to effect me and the clocks haven't even gone back yet. We can barely separate because there's nowhere for me to go. It's good to talk about this though, especially that "giving up" is an option. We have to have honest conversations with ourselves. Oh my god. I got a puppy many years ago - had a plan, found a good breeder, careful vet care - and I ended up bringing him back to the breeder because I didn't feel a bond with him, he didn't seem to feel one with me, he didn't enjoy walks (pancaked and I had to carry him), and it seemed the only time he was enjoying himself was when he was playing alone. I also had a mild allergic reaction and lived on the fourth floor, and everything was frustrating and depressing. (Happily, the breeder's family had fallen in love with the puppy (he was the last to go) and were happy to have him back and kept him themselves.) Now, I'm older and have experience living and helping with a roommate's puppy for 3 years, and was feeling the urge to try again. I usually talked myself out of it because of my previous failure, and just thought I didn't have what it takes. Then we dogsat someone's poodle for a month and I fell in love - plus they are good for people with allergies! It seemed perfect, so I put myself on the waiting list for a breeder, but there was always the little fear in the back of my mind that I'm not "good at" puppies and might fall into that depression again. BUT to know that it's not just ME, oh goodness. Okay. LOTS of people feel "puppy blues" and *get through it* - I wish I'd known this years ago; I might have built a happy life with that pup. This is so helpful. Okay, I'll remember this. I WILL most likely feel overwhelmed, even depressed, wondering what the hell I did to myself. And this is okay, this is common, this is temporary. /breathes deeply

Three weeks with pup and the last two days have been pretty overwhelming. A heady combo of frustration, sleep deprivation, feeling inadequate and unable to do the right thing for pup, judged by neighbours/family etc., are all feeding into this horrid, burdensome feeling. Reading the comments has given some reassurance that what I’m experiencing at the moment is a common thing. This is really encouraging! I feel like I’ve gone through boughts of the puppy blues at least 3 times since we got our pup 2 months ago. The worst is when I feel like I am working so hard at training and sticking to a consistent schedule and he is just not getting it or is being straight up manipulative (whining or doing the opposite of the command even when he knows what to do).
We’re gonna keep putting in the work but man all day yesterday I couldn’t stop crying during every potty break, every meal time, every nap time. My whole life revolves around him and I don’t think I was as prepared for that as I thought I was.
It’s also very social isolating bc you can’t leave the pup alone for more than a few hours. So no drinks after work with coworkers, or weekends at the lake house, or long sporting events/ shows. I miss being able to be out in the world for more than 2 hours at a time

Thank you for this video! I waited for my dog for over 10 years and this year me and my husband finally got our puppy. We had done a great amount of research, learned all about potty training, bought his crate and learned about crate training to avoid an over attached dog… and then he got here. I cried for weeks, I couldn’t sleep (not because he was barking but because I was afraid he would bark and annoy the neighbors), I couldn’t eat and had several anxiety attacks. I really thought about giving him to some other family because for me I had made the biggest mistake of my life. But my husband didn’t let go! He helped me a lot and took care of both me and the puppy. Now he is 5 months old and has been with us for 3 months. Things got easier, we train him a lot and work on our bond. We go with him to puppy school on the weekends and he is pretty amazing. But I’m stI’ll suffering from the puppy blues. It is not as bad as before, but our dog is growing and sometimes starts barking at things that were completely normal before. I get scared that he is just going to go crazy and bark non-stop and that’s when I start crying and having anxiety attacks again. I hope that at some point this is all going to disappear so that I can fully enjoy the wonderful dog we have.

Oh no, I'm so sorry you're feeling the puppy blues. I was the same and i called for help everywhere including GP. I started throwing up and non stop crying. Like a destiny I met a beautiful family ( just about next street one minute from my house) who were deperate to have a puppy and so life experienced, took him from me on Day 9. The new family keeps sending me photo of the puppy and I am actually happy that he went to the right family with two kids who would play with him all day.
I grew up with so many dogs and I am very good with dog training. But having a new puppy was a totally different level. I now strongly believe that puppys are better with families, kids can play with the puppy, parents can just watch them relax, puppy can have heaps of playtime, it is just so much better environment for a puppy than a single person in a small house.
I feel for you everyone and i respect everyone who went through it succesfully.
I am very sad my lovely puppy went to a new family but I am really happy that he went to the right family spending quality time there instead of watching me crying and anxious.
    Good luck with everyone. ❤

I guess I really needed to see this, and reading everybody else's comments made me feel a lot better. It doesn't actually fix anything, but it certainly gives me hope that the situation will improve.
I adopted an adult dog about 3 years old, 2 weeks ago. He seemed like such an angel for the first few days, but as he got more and more comfortable he started to get more difficult to handle.
Of course that would be my fault because I didn't know everything that I had to learn about properly training a dog, and about 1 week in I started to really question my decision. Almost every day my feelings for him swings between 'I will love you until your last day' and 'I am going to send you back to the shelter'.
I really want to make it work. It's comforting to know that it will get better. I am leaving this comment now and coming back to update it after I've had him for 2 months.

I’m a licensed vet tech so I have a lot of knowledge about animals but I’m still feeling anxious and overwhelmed with bringing the pup home today. Thank you so much for the video! being in quarantine doing online school to me (someone who has never owned myself a young puppy) sounded sooo nice. it seemed like all the puppy prep videos i watched were so sugarcoated like “be warned puppies are a lot of work!” then onto the best toys to get them. i wish i was warned about puppy blues, and how mouthy they are, especially since my puppy is apparently a very extreme case of teething and mouthiness, he’s a saint bernard lab mix, so he’s pretty big at just around 12ish weeks. his paws are absolutely massive as well and sometimes his claws hurt more than his teeth! after lots of bruising and cuts alllll up and down my arms, hands, legs and feet (not to mention the punctured clothes), my family and i are finally taking him to training lessons because i can’t do this myself! at first i was nervous to speak up to my parents and say, “i know i really really wanted this puppy, but i feel really overwhelmed. could we ask for professional help?” but once i did it was so relieving. finally everyone was starting to see what they didn’t while i was left home and they were at work. i do feel pretty good about myself though for not hitting him because i can understand the fact that he’s just a puppy, and everything is sooo fun and exciting! clothes and wiggly fingers are sooo hard to ignore. i have gotten preeetty dang far with him and teaching him how to do sit and down, so it’s also very rewarding! and to think i’ve only had him a few weeks now!

Hi Michele, we got our pup three weeks ago. He is a 12 weeks old Malshi. Thank you for the video. I was one of those who answer your poll just when I was crying and feeling frustrated. I know about the term in one of your videos and I immediately related the term with what I was experienced last week. I remember passing through the baby blues (20 years ago) and I know the puppy blues will pass as well. In our case, everybody in the family wanted a puppy but me because I knew it is a lot of work and in the end, I would be the one doing the training, the cleaning, and everything. I said no for 12 years! you may imagine my thoughts... just like you mention in your video. The good thing is that I talked again with the family members and they are helping me more. I want to enjoy the puppy now that he is very little. He is a good dog, he sleeps from 8pm to 5.30 am -600 am, he is learning the games. He sits on command, last Sunday, and today we had no accidents, he is not bitting the leash anymore. I am learning how to read his cues, and I am excited to teach him more games. I reflect on what I did wrong and I came to the conclusion that I was teaching him tons of things during the first week. So I went back to the basics, just working on potty training and crate, the sit command, and trying to pay attention to his signals and I am trying to be more patient with myself (very hard task). So the first week of 30 days to puppy perfection had been two weeks and a half, but it is OK. Sorry for the long post. Thanks again for your support.

I picked up my puppy 3 days ago and she cried as soon as we left the fosters house. The first night she cried so much. She cried in the pen I’d set up. She had to be carried to the carrier when she was asleep. I got 2 hours of sleep the first night. Last night was a bit better. I’ve had dogs before they were all adults and larger dogs. I am so anxious I can’t sleep or nap when she’s sleeping. I’m a mess. I cry often and my well meaning family just tells me to relax. And I’m doing this by myself and I’m a 7 hour drive away from my nearest relative. So thanks for this video and everyone’s comments.

Our Shiba Inu puppy is 12 weeks old now. I am so glad I experienced puppy blues for only one day after our new puppy bit my whole family, especially my youngest daughter everywhere. I questioned if it was a mistake to adopt her. I asked myself, "why am I creating more work for myself?" I almost cried. I am lucky to have my 2 daughters supporting me. Somehow, our puppy slowed her biting after I looked into her eyes and talked to her. She seemed to understand. But it's not as hard compared to raising my 3 children by myself at night, working full time in the day and my husband working full time at night.

Really feeling the puppy blues today. I've had this puppy for 6 days so far and I feel like I've ruined the next 15 years of my life. My previous dog passed a few years ago and she was so calm and nice. We would go on long quiet walks. Her presence was just so relaxing. With this new pup though, it's the total opposite. I feel like I barely have enough time to take care of myself and the only down time I have is when he is in his cage.... :(

I’m really glad I found this video. I just brought home an 8 month old puppy and ever since he has been with us, I’ve had this anxious/nervous feeling in the pit of my stomach. To be clear, it’s been 2 days and I have no idea why I feel this way. It’s like this enormous pressure and responsibility is weighting me down and I feel like the only solution that would make me feel better is to give him away or give him back to the shelter. I have NO idea why I feel this way because I love dogs, I’ve watched tons of videos and my girlfriend loves and has had more dogs then me. Cody (our dogs name) is doing very well for only 2 days in our home and we couldn’t be more lucky at how smart and calm he is. He does have a pulling issue on walks when he sees someone or something but I know I just have to train him out of it. It doesn’t help that as soon as we brought him home from the shelter that he had kennel cough and an infection in one if paws but I still don’t know why I feel this way.
It feels like I don’t have any control over myself anymore and I’m trapped by the existence of this wonderful dog in my house. I’ve cried the last 2 days and feel awful and like I’m going nuts. I hope I’m not the only one that has ever felt this because it’s not the dog at all. It’s me and I have no idea why I feel this way…

OMG YES!!! 3 weeks in to a new Golden Retriever puppy - Louie. Completely adorable but at the same time incredibly exhausting.
Just hearing that I’m not alone is helpful. And I will definitely check out the Puppy Schedule.
We have a trainer coming 1 night every other week and she’s awesome. Potty training is going well - we went from 9-11 accidents (pee) the first few days to none in the last 3 days and he’s starting to go to the door and give a little whine but it meant those first weeks taking him out OFTEN and rewarding/praising every time. He’s getting much better at his naps in his crate throughout the day and he’s a dream dog at night. It’s the biting and chewing and surviving the “zoomies “ or the “half daft hour” I used to call it when my kids were little every night from about 5:30- 6:30.
He exhausts me during the day but I’m determined to do the best I can for him and I believe all of this hard work will pay off but man I’m tired lol
Reading tons of stuff and watching tons of helpful videos - yours are AWESOME!!!
This video made me feel so much better - thank you for the hope 🙏❤️

I felt exactly as described in the video and the same as many of the comments. We had a 9-month-old puppy a couple of months ago. The first week was pretty overwhelming and we ended up deciding to return him to the breeder. We have a 3-year-old kid and a 5-year-old. The day after getting the pup we were attacked by two cats during our walk and one of the cats bit my son and I got a bite from the poor pup that was beyond scared, we had to spend the afternoon in emergency care to make sure our wounds didn't get infected. On top of that both parents work full time and one of the kids was home that week without summer camp. The poor puppy was perfect and really well behaved, but the timing was set to failure. I didn't know many things about dog training that I know now after watching your videos (potty and crate training specially). We are considering a second chance in the future when the kids are a bit older and less dependent on us and adopt a mini labradoodle. I plan to take one or two weeks off to focus on bonding and training with the puppy and start things right. Do you have recommendations to make sure both family and puppy are set for success? Do you recommend adopting an 8-week pup and do all the socialization and training in those first weeks of the pup's life or adopt an older puppy, maybe 4-6 months old already started in potty training and other skills? What are your thoughts about adopting an older pup vs an 8 to 9-week-old baby dog? Thank you so much!

We were obviously still building basic communication during this time, so it lead to a lot of stress on my wife, as I wasn't around till late at night to assist with things. We both sat on the floor about 5 days in and just cried, even talked about giving our new family member away. But we recommitted to making the house a home for him. A month in and we are hitting our stride. Always reach out for help, you are not alone!

    • @Edendog

😂 so true!!! How *do* you teach patience to yourself (or other humans)?
I am always telling my toddlers “I know, it’s so hard to be patient”, give them a hug and if needed I sing a little song I made up about how hard it is to be patient... it seems to help... sometimes I find myself saying these things to myself in my head and even singing the song! Haha. Maybe it doesn’t help a whole lot, but it does make me laugh at myself and that definitely distracts me from my frustration!
I wish I knew the magic formula. My best guess is to validate your feelings, try to be an optimist about the situation, make yourself laugh, or give yourself a hug and when all else fails there is chocolate! 😂😂

Hey everyone. Please remember puppy naps are needed. Even “forced ones” I find with my puppy, every 2 hours or so he needs a nap.
You can tell when it’s time as he gets “really bitey” I just pop him in his crate and he may cry or “scream” for a few minutes, but then passes out.
This has helped a lot for me as I was almost in tears thinking about did I make a mistake? And how may have to give him up (I thought I was a horrible person thinking these things and was so glad to see that’s normal)
But in short, naps are essential! Even if it’s only a 45 minute nap.
Michelle has another video on this topic too I believe.

I’m not sure if you’ll see this but I’ve been experiencing bad puppy blues, I thought I was crazy because my entire family is happy with our pup as am I but not in the same way. He’s 7 weeks old and it’s his third day with me but it’s already beginning to be too much. I’ve tried to explain how I feel to family members but it feels as though they don’t understand. My emotions range from being super playful with him to not wanting to be near him. I know it’s not his fault, I’ve just never raised a puppy before it’s such a huge responsibility. I just sit and cry while he plays at my feet, I’m hoping it’ll get better soon because I really do want to be there for him I’m just not sure what to do. Watching your video helped me to calm down so thank you. My puppy is really fond of me and follows me around everywhere and whines when I leave for a short amount of time, he doesn’t go too close to my family members and I’m trying to help him break out of that. Will he grow out of it ? or is this how it’s gonna be ?

We lost our 13 year old Maltipoo last March in a terrible accident while we were away. I swore never to get another dog again since losing her just devastated us...she was my BFF....Now we had freedom to do anything without worrying about having a dog to mind...I liked that freedom but missed having a little dog around. We thought about getting another dog and we ended up finding a cute little Maltipoo and were very excited to bring him home. He really is doing great, sleeping at night almost 7 hours, great in the crate, and doing pretty well with letting us know when he wants to go outside for potty. Only recently he has gotten a little wild with the biting but we are working through that. But....I am feeling a bit overwhelmed....I don't remember going through this with our first dog so I feel guilty about my feelings. I confided with my wife and she feels somewhat the same as well....anyway it was good to discuss this with my wife and watching your video made me feel that I am not alone....he is a great dog and we love him...and we'll all be able to get through this!

I expected it to be difficult but I’d never thought the puppy would growl and bark at our son every time he enters the room. He’s amazing with animals, doesn’t bother the puppy, even leaves the room to sneeze because he doesn’t want to scare the puppy. My husband and I were literally crying yesterday because we’d never seen our son so disappointed and sad, he doesn’t understand what he did wrong and why the puppy is being mean to him. The rest is actually going pretty well, the puppy’s been eating, playing and drinking well, she’s not scared of our vacuum cleaner or cars outside, the first bath was ok. No idea what the problem is.

Thanks so much for making this video! I definitely have the puppy blues. We’ve had our puppy for 6 weeks now and it is getting a little better. I knew adopting a puppy would be really tough and I thought I did everything to prepare. But it’s so much harder than I imagined. Just trying to enjoy this stage because I know this too shall pass.

Wow yes this is exactly what I’ve been going through! I thought we were as prepared as we could be, knowing a puppy would be hard. But a puppy on top of the multiple jobs we have between my husband and I, as well as unexpected living conditions, is driving me insane. It’s been only a week, but I cried like from day 2 to day 6 because of how stressful everything was. Our baby is so so sweet, but is just very uninterested in us and in most things, except grass and dirt. So far we can pick her up thank goodness, but she’s getting heavier and heavier each day. Luckily my husband and I are working as a team and going one day at a time since that’s all we can do honestly

Experiencing puppy blues now. Mind you, I only just brought my baby home yesterday. I feel completely overwhelmed, anxious and depressed. Broke down crying today, and I felt embarrassed. The fact that I have general anxiety as well isn't helping. I've been reading a lot about other people who struggled with it, and I know this will only be temporary. I just need to soldier through it.

Apologies for this long comment. Feel free to skip reading this one!
At the end of January I brought home an 8 week old kelpie x lab puppy. I had the 14 year old family border collie living with me for a few months last year and she unfortunately passed away at the start of the year. I was missing her like crazy and tried to fill the void in my house. I was naive in thinking a puppy would just need more walks than an elderly dog. I was insanely naive!
Having never raised a puppy myself and having grown up on a farm, a very different environment to raise puppies in than a suburban house, I knew practically nothing. I had thrown myself in the deep end. My house wasn't puppy proofed. I alone was raising her when I already had 4 cats. I now know that cats are super dooper easy to raise compared to puppies!!! I had to deal with the fallout from them over bringing home a new animal too. One of them won't even go into the backyard anymore. It's been 10 months of her basically living in my bedroom. 😢
I didn't do any research on puppies/dogs other than what breeds got along with cats before I brought her home. I thought because I was such a good cat mum and that I'd managed well with adding my elderly dog into the mix that I'd be fine. Such stupidity!
I have lost count of the amount of breakdowns I've had over the last 10 months! I wanted to get everything right and not ruin her. I felt the pressure that the formative months would be the building blocks of her entire life and I could so easily screw her up. My life was suddenly no longer about me, it was all about her. My freedom completely disappeared. It was so overwhelming. I couldn't form a connection with her for the first few months. I felt like such a failure. Here I was turning my life 100% upside down and feeling like there was no end in sight. Things like crate training, puppy school, puppy social group, doggy daycare and helpful UA-cam videos honestly saved me.
Today she turned 1 year old. We had a day where we played with new toys, went for a fun trip to the dog park, came home and had some couch cuddles and she got a doggy cake pop treat to celebrate. I love her and we have definitely built a strong connection now, so I hope things start to get easier. I would never wish my experience on anyone. It has been horrible and is not something I ever want to repeat. That being said I hope to see all the hard yards I've put in paying off in the next year.
There are already obviously improvements and I'm no longer dealing with the biting, accidents or sleep deprivation like in those first few weeks. Each month seemed to bring new challenges, without necessarily taking the previous challenges away. I'm still working through separation anxiety, whining, barking, jumping at other people (not me) and chewing things she shouldn't. She now walks reasonably well on lead and she's getting better and better with her training commands. She's such a happy, energetic, friendly dog and I make sure she gets a heap of socializing with other dogs and people as well as exercise, stimulation and attention. She has a good life with me. This has just been a very traumatic experience on my side of things. I am always my own worst critic and the critical voice inside my head has been so overwhelmingly loud this year.
The hardest part lately has been that I've not been able to leave my house for more than 15 minutes without her barking (in an attempt to protect her home environment from every single noise, not boredom, as I leave her with bones, iq games etc to keep her entertained). It has made me feel so trapped! We've finally turned a corner with her anti bark training and there is a light at the end of the tunnel. I mentally feel so much better knowing I can go out and work for a few hours or go run errands or have an outing to visit family or a friend without her disturbing the peace of my neighbourhood while I'm gone.
I don't want to freak out anyone going through the early days of puppy raising who are feeling the puppy blues. You likely won't experience the puppy blues for as long as I did. Most people seem to say it capped out for them after months if not weeks. Mine has been on and off, but mainly on, for the whole 10 months I've had her. This last week has been good. I'm hopeful I'm coming out of it. I just want to let anyone who's struggling with an older puppy know that the puppy blues aren't just for people with younger puppies and all puppies/situations are different. Sending love to everyone!

Thank you so much for this video and to see that I'm not alone from reading all the comments from people feeling the same way. I'm on day 3 and the puppy blues as been hitting hard. At first me and my partner wanted to get a dog in May but fell in love and got one earlier. I feel really guilty because I was the one who push to have a puppy. I get really overwhelm and start crying at random I don't want to disappoint or anger my partner.
I know it will pass but it's been harder everyday. The worst part is that my puppy is really good. He doesn't cry at night and is slowly starting to ask for the door, that makes me feel more guilty about the emotions I'm felling.

ohh yeah, I got my first Great Dane puppy over 10 years ago and I wanted her so bad, read and watched things for months and I remember sitting down and crying after putting her in her crate like day 3 of her being home and deciding she didn't like me and was never going to lol like OMG CANT DO THIS, I was soo upset and anxious and mad at myself for getting a puppy so I thought I was insane after I wanted her so badly! Anyway, she definitely did like me and she was my best friend and sweetest dog on the planet for 10 years of course. Sat on top of me whenever possible that whole time. Having to put her down months ago was so devastating. Important to remember it will be worth all the trouble and time you're putting in.
Picking up another dane puppy in a few weeks and I'm pretty sure the puppy blues will happen again but at least I'm prepared for that part and have some reference now, even though I've had a puppy I am now accustomed to having a older dog who's extremely calm and well behaved for years so going back to 10 years ago w dane puppy nightmare is going to be a challenge!! Can't wait though.

Leaving a comment in hope that when I revisit this video weeks or months later, I can smile and feel how silly I was.
Today is my 4th day with my 4 months old puppy and sometimes I think it’s not that bad but sometimes I just cry and cry because it’s not easy and I can never go back to pre-puppy days freedom. Just this morning I held him and cried because I felt so helpless. I had a dog before but we got him when he was 7 months and did not experience much of these puppy madness.
My pup knows how to go on pee pads but I over react when he steps on his pee. I wish I can just relax and go with the flow but it’s so difficult. And I cannot leave his sight, or else he will whine and bark non-stop. I know many said to just leave him be and he will eventually stop. But I live in an apartment and it’s not easy. He keeps biting us with those sharp teeth and doesn’t listen.
We are starting obedience training this Friday, so fingers crossed. I really hope it gets easy along the way.
