As someone who also suffers from depression and a vicious cycle of procrastination, I completely understand someone disappearing from their internet presence, ghosting people, etc. Last we heard, Neil was dealing with depression and mental health issues, according to a video on his Patreon. Neil, I hope you're ok. I understand what it's like to feel paralyzed and unable to stay in touch or complete tasks due to depression. I have severe chronic pain in addition to depression and I've ghosted people many times, just dropped off the face of the earth and made them wonder if I was ok. So I just wanted to say, hang in there Neil and I hope you're well enough to return eventually. I've thoroughly enjoyed your reactions to Fringe, with the most insightful and intelligent observations I've seen from any of the Fringe reactors. (I would love to see what you think when the series really goes crazy after Season 2!) Please know that you're valued and missed! 💗
Patron here just to let youtube viewers know that Neil is OK but has experienced severe struggles that caused a halt in his schedule. We’re a month ahead on Patreon but he’s still yet to release any further reactions beyond the last one posted June 15th.
We haven’t heard anything further from him since then.
How do you know this, did he post some sort of statement? It's pretty worrying, what do "severe struggles" even mean :(
@@tiduskurai we got a video explanation from him titled “on procrastination, depression and mental health’ in which he explained his schedule absence and a situation which had resulted in a collapse in his routine which led to a vicious cycle of procrastination.
I don’t want to give out all the details of what he said because it was a message to patrons specifically and its up to him as to how and when he’ll communicate with youtube.

Hi Neil - I too am missing you. Your enthusiasm for your channel and the shows you watch with us is infectious and something those of us in an increasingly isolated world look forward to. I believe you have been suffering with some kind of mental health struggle, as am I. I know these issues can be overwhelming at times and I know that pressure (social media is incredibly damaging at times) means we have to withdraw and take time for ourselves to heal and stabilise. I hope this break from UA-cam is a temporary one and that you feel able to carry on. You feel like a friend and I miss seeing your handsome face on my screen. Whatever the reason for your disappearance please know that there is a lot of love and concern for you amongst your followers and we all wish you good health and happy days. I suspect very few people thought, when Ashford was introduced in season 3, that they would be so saddened by his death. I grew pretty attached to him in those dozen or so episodes he was in. Xalte ere pash, beratna.

As someone who has struggled with mental health issues for 20 years i can fully understand the situation. Im months behind on reactions anyway so i should probably get on top of that. His face when Amos turned around with that psycho grin: It was in that moment Murtry knew, he had fucked up.
Ashford's 'Ghost Knife' solo mission was so damn badass, what an awesome character, and what a way to go out. And then the reveal to what Marco is actually targetting. Remember what Chrisjen said in the first season - I think actually the first episode we meet her: She worries about people throwing rocks. Four seasons later, the first rocks have now been thrown. I think there is a time estimate given in the slingshot model Marco has made - I think the estimate was in and around a few months but I'd have to go back and check. Either way, exciting things are coming. Welcome to Season 5!
Chrisjen on the roof talking with her grandson was actually episode 4 "CQB".
Weird looking back, that the quiet moment to ease off the tension (for the viewer) of the Donnager battle was also a warning of the future cataclysmic plan by Inaros.
That grin on Amos' face, just a prelude to Season 5 Amos adventure.

I just have to compliment the casting - the actor playing Filip Inaros looks SO MUCH like both Marco and Naomi. (Not that Neil can tell with the face blindness! ;) )

Hey Neil, just say I’m really missing your reactions! I love hearing your thoughts, especially from a film industry perspective. I hope things are getting better for you. I’ve been having a hard year too. Had a really tough class of students the second have of the year, plus been battling a noising neighbor since Xmas, which ultimately had the landlord kick BOTH of us out, and it was a place I really loved (except for the noise) so now even my summer which was meant for relaxing has been sullied. But I’m trying to hang in there. Your videos actually do give me a little ray of sunshine, so I’m hoping things get better for both of us.

Fun fact, Wes Chatham actually got punched for real in his last scene with Murtry and just rolled with it, making for a really chilling scene.
Am I the only one getting worried? Like no response for 1 month is cause for alarm. I’m worried something bad happened like he passed away or something. He was always so loyal and attentive to his fan base. Hard to believe he’d leave us in the dark like this for so long

Of note; Marco's rhetoric was similar to both Anderson Dawes and the Belter prisoner that Avilasara was torturing back in the beginning of s01 "even our dreams are small". This was seeded a LOOOOONG time ago 😲
Also, the Belter prisoner had been caught smuggling Martian Stealth Tech, very likely from the same syndicate that Bobbie is working for 😲
Also, when Mateo's uncle launched his asteroid debris at the Martian patrol ship that took their water and banned them from going home, he was inspired by an OPA person talking about throwing rocks on the radio. That person on the radio was Marcos.
Also Avarasala's conversation with her granddaughter (?) on the roof of their house when they're looking up at the shooting stars

Neil is heavily burned out from UA-cam. I saw a lot of people going through this. Let's be kind! Neil, take as much time as you need to recover. You don't even need to continue. Just do what is good for you, we are all grown up and we understand. "Been there..." Hugs!
Burned out from making youtube videos. Imagine if he had to do some actual physical labour, or even worse be fighting in Gaza or Ukraine right now. Unless he's incarcerated or incapacitated, he should just write a couple sentences in the community tab. No, he doesn't OWE is followers that, but it sure would be considerate.

But when people are heavily depressed it's very difficult for them to do such things, they kinda feel they need to feel a little better to come back to communicating with people, they just don't feel it's about writing just one sentence but more likely a beginning of communicating again, answering questions, telling about plans, giving promises, explaining, apologizing, etc. And for all that they just have no energy... In fact even giving it a thought will make them more down, more exhausted, feeling bad about themselve and more depressed. That's why depressed people are avoiding it at all costs. It can worsen how bad they feel so they push away such thoughts. Thinking, feeling and perception is heavily distorted for depressed people (brain produces different chemistry when people are depressed, different set of hormones etc.) So we can't judge depressed people as mentally healthy people. Imagine someone broke a leg and you are saying why did not they go to a mail box outside the front yard (it's not that far) and put a letter in a box to let us know what's going on. But a person might be not capable of walking through the room at the moment or can do it at a cost of tremendous suffering. Don't expect anything from depressed/burned out people. Let them heal.

Also, he used to work lonnnnng days on production crews in Vancouver. That’s 1000 times harder than producing reaction videos.

It's locked but I can see by the title that you've made an update a month ago on Patreon about mental health stuff. Sending you all my love and positive thoughts. Your channel is one of the ones I turn to when I'm feeling down and just want to hear someone else talking and speculating, to have a brief reprieve from that pesky internal dialogue :)

Depression is a bitch. For the last 3 years, I've been dealing with a difficult depression that has left me feeling like a shadow of my former self. I spent many, many months struggling just to get out of bed - let alone talk to people or go on with my daily routine. Doing a little better now in some respects, but still absolutely horrible in other. I only mention this to say that I really empathize with everyone struggling with their mental health in one way or another. It can really mess with your thought processes. For me when I was at my worst, the thought of reaching out to people even just to say hi felt absolutely impossible.
Regardless of what you're going through, I hope you take all the time you need for yourself! Take care.
A lot of the people I follow or know are giving up. As the world is coming to its end, past the point of no return, doomed by capitalism and greed, it's not so much depression as a normal reaction to what's going on and going wrong with everything. Not saying this is anything to do with Neil's situation, it's just common or endemic now, only the far right seem to be able to motivate themselves to action, perhaps delusionally.

In the BTS commentary, they mentioned that Burn Gorman actually hit Wes Chatham while filming that scene. A lot of his shock was from making the mistake (wasn't supposed to be contact). To his credit, Wes stayed in character and used the hit to enhance the scene.

When Holden socked Mutry and declared "You're not in charge anymore," his failure was in not firmly taking charge himself. He _could_ have done that...he's the personal representative of the "Queen of Earth." If Holden had actually taken charge, most of the rest of that mess wouldn't have happened. Holden has evolved. He's still "lawful/good," but he recognizes there are higher orders of "law."
"The dream of Mars isn't dead...it's about to be writ large." There were names on the hand terminal Bobbie was examining.
Amos had promised Holden not to kill Murtry. I suspect Murtry's trip back to Earth was a cycle of beat-down, autodoc, beat-down, autodoc. I think with the political tide having turned, RCE will wash its hands of Murtry.
Avasarala recorded her note to Gao while sitting at the ornate Resolute Desk. The Resolute Desk was one of two desks built from the timbers of the HMS Resolute, an Arctic exploration sailing ship. Queen Victoria made a gift of one of the desks to President Rutherford B. Hayes in 1880. It has been used as the Oval Office desk by most US presidents since then. The presidential tradition is that the outgoing president leaves a personal note to the succeeding president in the Resolute Desk. That's what Avasarala is doing here.
Remember when Mateo tossed his rocks at the Martian patrol? He had been listening to an OPA propagandist talking about hurling asteroids at Earth, which gave him the idea to throw his rocks at the Martians. But clearly this had been a lively idea in the OPA. They just needed a way to avoid the Earth asteroid defense system.
We do know that Fred Johnson has the sample of Protomolecule that Naomi gave him. Here is one thing I've considered: We know that the Protomolecule "device" sent to Earth had the function of building the Ring and then checking in with its builders. It does not appear that device had any other purpose. "The Investigator" could communicate with the Ring sphere and the devices on Ilus, but they were clearly separate devices with other purposes that the Ring-building device didn't have information about...The Investigator had to figure them out. And we also know that all elements of the Ring-building device communicate with each other and thus have the same "point of view." I believe the sample of Protomolecule now in Johnson's hands would be, if released, would know that the Ring had been built and would still be on the mission of finding a way to report back to its builders.
The first three episodes of season five were dropped simultaneously and then it went weekly. I pondered that as I started the season and came to a conclusion.
I bet the island got him, he's running around looking for mysterious hatches.

Dang man. I didn’t expect this drag on like this. I guess your really struggling out there. I’ve been in the process of breaking free from the chains of depression myself. Still a long way to go plenty of bad days mixed in with the good. Your not alone get well we miss you Neil and all your wonderful content.

Casting David Strathairn was a great get for this series - top notch actor who crushed the role.
I really liked him in Alphas too. A very different character, but still one with an ethically muddled past trying to do better.

Re: the wildfires, he's on the other side of the country, in British Columbia. So at the very least, that's an unlikely concern.

@@willsofer3679 The smoke in NY is from Quebec and Ontario fires, but British Columbia has been burning all summer. The amount of land burned in British Columbia this year has already placed 2023 among the top three wildfire seasons on record - the other three largest seasons (2017, 2018 and 2021) all came within the last five years. The Donnie Creek wildfire in British Columbia, which is still growing, is the largest in the province’s recorded history, and has now burned an area twice that of Metro Vancouver.
@@alienanxiety Okay, thank you. Didn't know that. I'm relatively near Ontario, so we've been getting the smog from there, and most of the American news coverage has likewise focused on eastern Canada. I didn't know it was that bad in western Canada this year.

usually after breaks this long the channel is over. not always but i imagine he still had a normal job so might have shifted focus. just wish he would at least put his patreon update video on here for us to know. the fact hes been dead silent. no responses here, nothing on patreon. hes just gone from the face of the earth. did see some obituaries under his name on a quick google search but seemed like older gentlemen so silver lining there. but as someone not on patreon and only having the info that he was having mental health issues i think its normal for people to assume the worst after this much time. its human nature.

That action sequence with Bobby at the shipyard was such a good climax to her very slow burn storyline that's been happening all season.

Ashford was a voice of reason when we first met him, so there is no surprise there.
He was only unreasonable, when he didn’t test Holden’s theory in the ring.
By the way, you said "the Cinderella zone" when I think you meant "the Goldilocks zone" to refer to Mars as being a planet that could support liquid water.
The Cindarella Zone is even better than the Goldilocks zone but it turns into a pumpkin at midnight.
Let's not mention the sleeping beauty zone!
