    My favourite EPCOT pavilion, at least in its original form

    I saw Captain EO during it's original run in the 80s. It was loud and cheesy but a lot of fun. I was so happy when it came back and saw it multiple times during its second run. It was still cheesy and loud but I still loved it for that. It took me back to a simpler time. I hated Honey I Shrunk the Audience though. Saw it once and never went back. And I saw magic Journeys during it's run at the Magic Kingdom, so yeah I got to see all of them.

    I really love the Short Film Festival. It’s a beautiful way to highlight how Disney/Pixar uses the short format to test out animating techniques and the immersive nature of the experience adds a level of intimacy you don’t get watching them as a part of the features. I recommend the Film Festival to anyone who loves animation for as long as it stays with us.

    Magic Journey and Captain EO was a gem, so graceful for the revamp of Captain EO, it was wonderful to see the new generation embrace this vintage and iconic classic attraction!

    I remember seeing captain EO in 88. Even my parents were impressed....which was a big deal. I really love your videos! You capture the world as it was, as opposed to as it is and I know many of us appreciate that.

    I love this video because it gave me the mental image of Kylo Ren and Rey fighting Snoke with the power of MJ style dancing. I truly wish this was a vision I could share with the world.

    I've seen both Honey, I Shrunk the Audience and Captain EO during its second run, and to be perfectly honest, I loved both.
    Honey, I Shrunk the Audience was a lively, comical 3D film that was a lot of fun, partly because of the "live demonstration" archetype it presented, similar to MuppetVision and It's Tough to Be a Bug, which I honestly love. The only bane I have for the show was how it influenced the rest of the Imagination pavilion as a whole.
    Captain EO, on the other hand, is pretty much 1980s caviar. Great special and practical effects, awesome music and dance, Michael Jackson, it all came together as a stellar theme park classic that I was happy to have been able to experience.

    I’ve only been on the “Captain EO Tribute” once. It was a long time ago. I absolutely DESPISE AND HATE the water sprayers. Those effects sounded cool though. Even though I was young, it was scary. But to tell the truth, I LOVE ALL EXTINCT DISNEY ATTRACTIONS! The petition should have said to re-do the effects. That would’ve made for a better tribute. Looking back on it now, I kind of wish I wasn’t scared back then...

    Was still too young to understand what Captain EO was like. My mom was a huge Michael fan and still is now, but she brought me, my dad, and younger sister there in the mid-90s. I just saw Michael’s face and asked, “That’s Michael?” 😁
    As for Honey, I Shrunk the Audience? I still remember that very well and enjoyed it as years followed. Rick Moranis is without a doubt the best of the best as Prof. Wayne Szalinski. Interestingly, a nod to Captain EO was made in HISTA the moment Wayne tries to revert back to normal size from his hover pod. You can hear this is the same sound effect used when EO blasts off into space with his ship.

      An Awfully Big Adventure
      Not in all its glory they did leave some parts out of the original like: the original "4-D" effects such as the enormous fiber-optic "starfield" wall along with smoke and lasers were removed from the building at the show's first closing, and were not returned for the revived presentation. The removed special effects from the original presentation are also missing in the Epcot, Tokyo Disneyland, and Disneyland Paris revivals that followed.

    • @mikekaraoke
      @mikekaraoke 6 років тому +1

      Why did you think it stuck around a little to long on its revival then?

    I remember when I was younger and my family went to Disneyland. My family loved Honey I Shrunk the Audience but I was terrified of it, particularly a scene with a lion. My mom had told me if I was able to get through the show, we would go on Space Mountain, my favorite ride, right after. However, I still made a scene and then me and my mom left the theater while the rest of my family finished the show and then they went on Space Mountain.

    I always loved Honey I Shrunk the Audience and the Kodak pre-show, probably because that was the first show I ever saw in this theater as a kid. I will say that I always hoped that this theater could have become the home for a Meet the Robinsons attraction. I think it could have worked on two levels. The first being that the theme of Meet the Robinsons was keep moving forward. This idea of invention and innovation fit with the theme of imagination and it also could have been a continuation of the Inventor Awards, but instead of Wayne getting honored, it would be Cornelius Robinson. They could have had his peanut butter and jelly dispenser “spray” the audience while pumping in those smells, they could have had his meatball canon go crazy and shoot meatballs into the audience and it could have featured the time machine. We could go back in time with Wilbur and Carl for some reason. I know it’ll never happen since Meet the Robinsons was not iconic enough or a big enough box office draw, but I do think it could meet the criteria for both imagination and future world.

    • @srayj
      @srayj 6 років тому +2

      Expedition Theme Park thanks! I really enjoy your channel. Sadly, Meet the Robinsons was during that weird lost time after The Renaissance and is considered part of that Experimental Phase or even worse, the Second Dark Age, but I always thought that the movie had a lot of heart and fun and had it come out during another animation era it likely would have seen a lot more love.

    I had read an article this past week about that theater and the film Magic Journeys. I've read about how people felt about that sort. One said that it was like a long acid trip and to that I was amused by that comment. I saw that particular film with another film short you had mentioned in the video. The Donald Duck 3D short was so much fun. I did see this short but in a 2D format. While the Magic Journeys short left me thinking what did I just see? That clip with that boy blowing into the dandylion but in reverse was one of the highlights of that short I remember. Seeing through the eyes of a child feels like stepping into an alternate universe and it shows in that little short. I was amazed at the 3D images of that short yet I was thinking like, What am I watching? As far as the Kodak promotion is concerned, the one I saw was with a father trying to get his son to smile through a slide show. That was before we saw the 2 3D shorts before the main attraction that was Captain EO. Yes, I did see Captain EO and It was outstanding. I was with my mom, my younger brother, and my older sister. They surprised us with a trip to Disney World in Florida. We had to leave at the beginning of the week during Spring break in 1993. So yeah, I can relate to that person who made that comment. The funny thing about that short that I thought it came out in the 70's but it came out in the early 80's.
