Zuko let people outside of the royal family learn the art of lightning bending after he became fire lord
Not everyone can lightning bend thats why Mako was able to get work. Lightning bending is still an advanced skill that can be learned if trained properly.
Amon is played by one of the legends of voice acting; Steve Blum who played Spike in Comboy Bebop and Wolverine in X-Men with Marvel
and Zeb from Star Wars Rebels!
Amon getting up there and spitting about bending is some big "The Worst Person You Know Just Made A Great Point" energy.
Without bending the 100 year war and air bender genocide might not have happened. I wanna learn about the other "wars caused by bending" Amon mentioned. Haven't read any of the books
@@parthlad8263a war was almost started in Kyoshi, but it actually wasnt about bending. It was about honor. Yes benders were involved. Yes someone assassinated someone with bending. But it was not about bending, or a war against benders. It was 2 family clans tiptoing around politics to get a chance at the throne.

@@TheArtOfLoss and thats why i love korra. The villains are what makes this show perfect. Even unalaq who people hate is better than any atla villain and has a lot of depth

What makes Amon's cause so weird is that... he's kind of right. In the universe of the avatar some people are clearly better. And it's not like every non bender is treated equally. If you look at the amount of benders in leading positions, you tend to forget that they make up only like 10% of the population. The only exception to this were the air nomads, who lived equally. But they were 100% benders. Giving voice to non-benders is important. And with modernisation, the lives are improving.
The villains are all pretty well developed and very captivating.

I love Amon , he is more interesting than Ozai but the other "villains" are interesting and cool, too (season 3). Ty Lee was the most dangerous and strongest nonbender from ATLA because of the Chi Blocking. That is why the Equalists of Amon are more interesting than the fire soldiers in ATLA (like Zhao). amon and the equalists are such an realistic group of villians, they remind me of a certain group of people from ww2
Chi blocking originated from sozin's sister who learned chi blocking moves while studying airbenders and working with them
I'm loving the Korra reactions. Correct, the royal family hid the secrets to lightning bending and after the 100 year war Zuko made it publicly available so it's more common. It's still pretty rare for a firebender to be able to do it, though. Dee had me dying with the, "I thought he was about to spank her." 🤣By the way, this is very random but the fits are so dope. The denim hoodie is fire and the Israel Adesanya shirt is 🔥.

Tbh, the lightning bending still doesn't make sense to me because it's still meant to be an extremely difficult technique requiring complete focus and lack of emotion, yet apparently a gangster with a cocky grin is now able to do it on a similar level to Azula.
@@Tamashikusho i mean he's the leader of a very notorious group tf you mean a random gangster? You just need to accept that techniques get simplified and easier to learn as years pass by. At some point its not hard anymore... lightning bending isn't hsrder than mastering an element
@@humanoidfrog4645 Lightning bending isn't harder than mastering an element? The entire point of lightning bending is that it's the ultimate form of firebending, that requires complete focus and absence of emotion, basically to firebenders what bloodbending is to waterbenders. While I can accept that knowledge of it would spread, it makes no sense that suddenly loads of people are capable of it, at a level that only Azula was ever previously capable of, whilst arts like bloodbending that just require power are apparently still super rare.

Fun Fact the Equalist gard at the meeting voiced Haru's dad in book 1 and book 3 Day of black sun, and also voiced the Lionturtle.

I think it's interesting that Korra's entire drive is being the Avatar. It's all shes ever wanted in her whole life. So the idea that someone could take that away and make her unable to fillfill her Avatar duties is literally her worse nightmare. And I love that they balance/contrast Korra's reliance on the physical side of bending with Amon's ability to take away bending away. I thought it made for a very emotionally tense season.

You forgot, ATLA’s villains were Zuko (first season), Iroh (by association with Zuko), Zhao, Azula, Mai & Ty Lee (by association with Azula), the Dai Lee & Ozai
but the big bad was Ozai. The "villains" in Korra are more interesting because they are 3 dimensional.
All these are barely villains except for Zhao azula and ozai. Zuko was never a threat. Zhao did some shit but he's garbage. Azula did some stuff but it wasn't rlly against aang but more against ba sing se and a 13 year old girl 😂 ozai is the most straight forward boring villain I've EVER seen like genuinely ass. Doesn't get screentime until the final 😭

I forget Mako is even a character til i rewatch season one. they really drop the ball with the side characters in this compared to ATLA.

Having lightning bending restricted to the members of the royal family would make sense, but it never sit well with me how fast some background character can generate lightning in LOK
My guess is that it's probably way less powerful. Cause let's be honest, if there was a way to charge it faster, Azula would've figured it out.
I think the difference is that those guys probably hit you with a taser while Azula tries to wipe your whole bloodline from existence

Yes Amon is a compelling villain for sure. Like you said Ozai is your straight forward power hungry dictator with genocidal plans with no remorse tho it is terrifying when people like that amass the power to cause a world war. Amon however has a compelling argument against benders they have with people like Ozai and the gangs in republic city used their bender powers to threaten non-benders it makes sense what he is saying but it's to the extreme where he has began a cult following to rid the world of bending. But people believe in his cause so he has people more willing to follow him then purely being forced to.
Yes I believe with the Fire Nation during Ozai and before his time lightening bending was a rare ability that was only taught within the royal family and knowledge kept from others likely to assert their dominance or prove they had the "divine right to rule". Metal bender was invented by Toph as far as we know no other before her had the ability but Toph created a division of officers that could metal build so she didn't keep the knowledge to herself. Not ever bender is able to do a subset ability tho and you will see that in future.
Something I wonder as far as where the world building could go in a future series is what happens when technology reaches a point that it makes all the uses of bending completely obsolete?
Obviously even at the diesel punk level of tech we see in Korra bending still has its advantages and uses for society. But when you have tanks, mech suits, airplanes, bombs, cannons, all the way up to weapons of mass destruction. Even something as amazing as bending will eventually not be able to keep up in terms of its practical advantages. Like why have a squad of lightning benders in your powerplant when you could have a solar farm, a hydroelectric dam or a fission or fusion plant for example.
I wonder if a future series could explore this as there's so much culture and spirituality that would be lost also when bending becomes seen as an antiquated outdated skill to have. Theres a lot of parallels to our world in that regard when it comes to progress. Maybe amons vision of the future could be achieved passively as opposed to using violent means. What would it mean for the avatar when bending is used by less and less people.

Hey Avatar Meesh and Avatar Dee how you been. I hope you two had a wonderful weekend. I find it cool that someone like Mako can use his bending lightning for work. As we get his and Bolin backstory on them losing their parents.
Amon is such interesting character. And on top of that, he knows how to take a person bending away which is insane. As well his group the Equalist. Casting Steve Blum as the voice of Amon was a great choice. He voice Orochimaru and Zabuza from Naruto. But anyway I hope you two have a wonderful day. Stay safe, take care and stay amazing.

Yeah making lightning and metal bending something common and basic for most people to do was a huge L move on this shows part.
Except none of these things are common and still take a high level of skill
@@vgfunmanNo they don’t… We literally saw Mako use lightening as a work tool… In ATLA, even in the Comics, Kiyoshi Comics, Yangchen’s Comics we saw Lightening to be a deadly bending that were only used by few and as a last resort not a welding tool… It one of the things that started pissing a lot of people off about this show… The Korra Writers messed a lot of things up cause they wanted to change things that are not meant to be changed… It’s a great show but they changed our beliefs about a lot of things which people didn’t like that’s why the show never go much sales compared to ATLA
@@vanbush3264 preach brother preach 👏🏻. The pros of legend of Korra far outweigh the cons. But man way to make really powerful and unique characters like Azula and Toph feel a lot less powerful and unique 🙄. It’s annoying and definitely not the smartest move. I’ve read some of the books and you’re right they do keep a lot of those important things from Atla in there.

@@brando8611 Exactly what I’ve been telling people, the writers of Korra wanted her to be special so bad and to be the all baddest Avatar like Kiyoshi was and they messed everything up… Even in Kiyoshi novels and comics everything was still intact just like it was in ATLA… and btw I’m a guy 😂
