At 74, and 3 friends who could not get up when they fell so lay around for about 8 hrs before help found them, I got rid of my chairs and started sitting on the floor so I practiced getting up every day, many times. I also do in-bed limbering up exercises. I include a formal exercise of getting down on the floor and structured method of getting up using only one hand. It has helped me quite a bit. I also do resistance training about every 3 days.
I'm so pleased my work has been able to provide a welcome boost of motivation for you - improvement is most certainly possible with consistency! Keep up the great work and I'm wishing you all the best 😃
Hi Will. Have been following you for some time now and have your book. Really enjoyed the presentation and all the great information. I am a really fit and healthy 73 year old. Apart from moving well, eating well and healthily is also part of going into a healthy and fit third age! We are Whole Food Plant Based eaters and went this way in our 50's. We have no 'diseases' at all, are on no medications, are slim, walk fast and every day up to 10 miles etc. My only difficulty is OA and although I struggle with pain, especially in my hands I ignore it and keep going :)
Thank you so much for supporting my channel and for purchasing my book, I hope it's been able to offer some useful information! It sounds like you're doing some incredible work to keep yourself fit and healthy which is really important - keep up the great work :)
So nice to see you speaking live on UA-cam in a friendly British environment. Thanks a lot for the useful résumé. Keep up with the good work! Love and greetings from Nicole (in France) 👍👏🙏🌺💐💝💝💝
Thank you so much! The stats are in: dieting and 'lifestyle changes' do not work in the long term for the vast majority of people, so focussing on being fit and taking care of our health, no matter our size, I feel is very important. The sad thing is that we fatter people are shamed by doctors and told that every health problem is due to our weight, which is unfair, and leads to us not going to the doctor when we should. This can compound potential health issues. Also we heavier people are body-shamed at the gym, at the pool etc., even though we're trying to get fit and healthy, which makes many of us give up and stop trying. So I'd like to know: what are your thoughts on HAES (Health At Every Size)?
found your book ( in English) on Amazon Italia at just under 18 euro which is great! I will order it because although at 68, thanks to a great personal trainer, I have no problems, I consider this as precious preventative information. Thanks !
I hope you find my book helpful, I've tried to pack it full of useful tips and guidance - and absolutely, prevention is always the key and can help fend off a lot of problems down the road!
I like the way you explain things. I watched your “getting up from the floor video”. But would love to see one on who to achieve getting back up from a squatting position on the floor, without hanging onto furniture. Toddlers bop up and down without any effort and I don’t know when I lost the strength and ability to do this.
Thank you very much , fantastic talk, you are a great inspiration making improving ones health span seem possible . I will definitely try to follow your advice.
Hey Will! I've been using your physical therapy techniques for my L5 S1 herniated disc. Appreciate the guidance as it seems to be more and more common. I've always had a strong back until MS set in 15 yrs ago.
Really lovely to see you presenting .Will you covered all the 10 secrets to health span beautifully.Quality over quantity is always better. Balance and strength training becomes more crucial as we age. Thanks for all the tips which you gave in this presentation to be strong and pain free. Stay blessed❤
Great presentation! Factual, useful, relevant, motivational and empowering information delivered articulately. Will, if you happen to read this, I have been aching to ask you one critical question which was not mentioned in all your videos. It’s about the importance of rest to allow the muscles to grow with resistance training. I read online that it’s a science based fact to allow the muscles to recover in order for them to grow. And rest is also important in order not to overwork a particular muscle or the body. Standard suggestion is to rest a muscle for 48 hours before using it again. What is your advice?
Loved listening to your talk Will very informative and motivating. You have a wonderful knack of simplifying everything. Keep doing what you're doing, us oldies need you ❤
Great advice Will Thank you. I've never been a fan of calorie counting - using a smaller plate is a great idea. Our dinner plates are much larger than they were 20/30 years ago. We fill them up and we don't move as much!
"Don't Panic" is message! Sure, bad news exists regarding injuries by falling on the floor! However: Thanks be to God for Will Harlow's talk which gives us advice to reduce discomfort and increase confidence and strength! He seems comfortable, confident, and definitely charming when he presents the information for everybody especially for us 50 and over! 10 Considerations for weakened life span 1. Can't stand on one foot 2. Loss of grip strength 3. Unable to get up the floor 4. Pain in one or more joints over three months 5. Out of breath in ordinary activities 6. Fracture in last 12 months 7. Dropping into a chair - not slowly lowering in chair 8. Afraid of walk in unfamiliar terrain 9. Struggle to hold breath for 20 seconds 10. Furniture holding because of poor balance Looking at the wall behind Will Harlow, am I the only one distracted by a damaged wall that has roots and wooden beams - why framed and covered with glass? Almighty God bless everybody especially the seniors over 50! Blessings on you Will Harlow! Most Precious Blood of Jesus Christ, save us and the whole world! Friday, March 8, 2024
I think that the panels that you refer to are there to show how and with what the walls of the building were originally constructed from. It is called ‘wattle and daub’. Which is a system of interwoven wooden branches and twigs, daubed with a mixture of mud, straw, animal dung etc. This is a means of construction literally thousands of years old, but variants of the idea can still be found today in what are called ‘cob’ houses, where straw is mainly used. Every nation on Earth has used some variation of the idea, even up to recent times.
Absolutely, accidents still happen, which is why early preventative work is so important to help mitigate the injuries and to put us in the best position to support recovery - I hope you found my talk helpful!

Hey! I'm 73 & I was diagnosed with Parkinsons in 2012. Several years ago I also got vertigo. One year I fell 11 times. One year I fell & hit my head & had to go to the ER & have 11 stitches in my head. Now, I have not fallen in 3 years. The year before that I fell once but I didn't hurt myself. I've done Physical Therapy 3 different times. Each time I have had to convince them that I wanted them to teach me how to walk, about center of gravity & just generally how to be aware all of the time so I would have better balance. I'm never going to have good balance but it seemed to me that I should be able to have improved balance. My thinking was that when we learn to walk we're toddlers & we do it by trial & error. So, I figured that there must be a good way to do it. Does the ball of the foot go down first or last? Etc.? I call Not Falling "Job One". Perhaps my experience will be helpful to someone else.
