My daughter just looked at me and asked “ daddy are you crying?”. Who said a 70 year old man can’t get emotional.😢
you lived it my friend.
We were there.
❤
Can we also include a 69 year old? Thanks.
totality agree with your Dad!!This song means so much to me also!!
Ok boomer
I cry every time I hear this-
Okay, 80 doesn't seem so scary anymore. Thanks, Joni.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Oh Joni , I listened and sang and smoked with you all those years. Now I am 73 listening to you with tears streaming down my face…. God Bless you my Hero ☮️💟
No words - the listening skills of Brandi are as incredible as the delivery of the song itself. Wonderful.
Joni Mitchell is the greatest female songwriter of all time and I am so grateful that Brandi Carlile has introduced her to a new generation.
Amen
Not only the greatest female, but the greatest! Period!
Her songs touches me more and more - maybe I had to grow up and become, well, 50 till I learned to appreciate and listen to this wonderful woman. I am 60 now, I hope next generation will also find her
"You're in my blood like holy wine." the most beautiful thing you could say to a person. I love you Joni.
Everyone on that stage is in awe of that woman. As I am. Living legend.
I wouldn’t be able to do it , without crying
Piano player was fighting for his damn life! dude got an A plus too.
This performance I think is the final word on how incredible this woman and her songs are. She and her music will transcend and live on as long as music is still being played.
So well said!! Thank you!
Word❤
She sang again in June 2023 at the Gorge.........
@@johnandkathleenodonnell4130 if we take the word ‘final’ as being non-literal and more a statement on the fact that nothing more needs to be said or done to support or demonstrate her brilliance then I think you might just understand the gist of my comment…
❤️❤️❤️
I'm not crying, you're crying
The arrangement of this song for Joni's rich, wise voice and Brandi's spellbinding range and tone is unearthly. Thank you Joni for writing, and Brandi for shepherding, this music back to us again.
Is Brandi her daughter ?!
I wonder sometimes if Brandi is infact her daughter. So many resemblances. Almost eery if not.
In a way, yes she is.
Well said Fam
absolutely right!!!
Gives me the chills everytime!!!!! What an enduring artist for our time and for all time.
I was married to a Canadian girl for 36 years and this was our song and she passed away from a massive heart attack and I've never been quite the same. thank you Joni thank you ladies. thank you, music
Sending healing energy to you. 💖
She is with you of course !!! Love and light my friend..love and light❤❤❤❤
Death of a loved one is never easy, but such an abrupt and unexpected loss is a trauma many can't understand and, of course, no decent human being would wish that understanding on anyone.
I hope that, in time, your grief will lessen and you find more smiles coming to your face when you remember her and how fortunate you were to have your paths intersect and intertwine for so long.
My most beautiful and loving Canadian wife is on the other side now, too. I hear you with my whole heart. I come to this song for the same reason.
😢❤thank you for sharing your story! What a beautiful marriage you both had!
I don’t always cry , but I do when I listen to this .
I don't cry at a lot of hell anymore, but let me hear her..and well, it's raining in here.
The most beautiful musical moment I've ever witnessed. There's nothing that could touch my soul the way this has. Truly incredible! I can feel my heart beating in my ears, the emotion this brings is something else!
Just like wine, it just gets better over time. I have savored every drop.
Wow!! 😢 I’ve listened to this at least once a day since I first heard it ❤️
I am 74 yo guy and I don't know why the tears are rolling down my cheeks....
lost youth;
old loves..
the passage of time..
No it's the music, nothing to do with age or passage of time, it was beautiful when written and still is now, music is timeless.
41 here, I’ll cry listening to this anytime
@@thecatsaton2matstruly is. This music hits every single cell in our body
I'm 53 ... crying silly!!??
Joni was there with us in Mexico 1972, My friend Mark Edwards and I drove a 67 Mustang from Worcester Ma. to Oaxaca Mexico. Mark had a really nice portable cassette player, and on this fantastic adventure, Mark played "Court and Spark" everyday for six months. Still my favorite Joni Mitchell album. God bless you, Joni Mitchell.
Dear lord, tears for Joni's beauty, the heartbreak, the ravages of life and ecstacy of life. I can only think that it's all come to this moment. Brandi . . . no words for the gifts you've given to Joni!
Joni X Brandi X Marcus Mumford = holy trinity?
The greatest female singer of all time. No question. GOAT!
For anyone wondering who's the man with the beautiful voice singing along: It is none other than Marcus Mumford
Thank you Brandi and Joni ❤
Don't know Brandi, but am delighted to see her support of Joni. So lovely to see music live on through generations. Thanks for this.
The profound love for her shines through, had me nearly blubbin at the end!
They loved her so much. To come from a quiet room, painting and thinking, and smoking cigarettes, to all of this unexpected love and adoration must have been uniquely validating and overwhelming. These songs were recorded about 50 years ago. If it were me, I would have thought they would have forgotten all about this music and me. But, no. They were singing along and applauding her essence. Music is timeless, and so is Ms. Joni Mitchell.
Her smile is so lovely and it does have an element of disbelief and surprise in it when the audience applauds. It is very touching and your comment is as well 💕
If you were of age back then...you'd know her words penetrated into our DNA and hard drive like few other words so rare. Her lyrics sometimes float around freely when I need something to say....Yes, they were 50 years ago, but for most of her audience, they would have been around 20 at that time, so it goes round like that. I doubt she thought they would have forgotten. I sang along at her concert in 1976, I was 28.
@@SpeegBJ Thank you for sharing that lovely memory. I bet it must have been truly special to be at her concerts and await new music 🥰
Why this still sounds as good as it did 50+ years ago, is the combination of the pure beauty of the minor key chords and the soaring melody, together with words of absolute honesty expressing innocent, but nevertheless still wise, love. Such combinations do not happen often in music, but when they do they are timeless and will last forever.
There's some place where they all are together in this performance. You can't write composition like this. It is simply a group of unbelievably talented musicians locking on to the same wavelength and performing like this. I'm blown away every time I come back to listen to this
I've never heard a more beautifully performed arrangement of this song. The pianist is also singing over some of Joni's lyrics. He does a beautiful job.
Heaven on earth
How great is Brandi for guiding this glorious performance?
I cry every time I watch this.... Joni, there is no one that can compare to you... I'm so happy for your return to the stage and I hope I will see you again soon
Believe me you’re not alone. Tears are streaming now. Beautiful just beautiful
This is one of the most beautiful piece of musical collaboration I know of. The tenderness and respect in the air is beyond loveliness!!!
Well this broke me!! Wow what an amazing woman!! Joni has been one of my idle's and inspiration for years. Thank you to everyone that made that happen :)
How could one witness this performance and not be moved... deeply...
If this doesn’t move
Them, something sure is wrong
Astonishingly good. Joni you're a queen!
Just breathtaking! Joni Mitchell one of the true greats!
This performance is spellbinding. Brandi Carlile compliments this beautiful Joni Mitchell song so eloquently. Stunning. Simply stunning.
I'm from Brazil and I had never heard about Joni before. I'm obsess righ now. Why am I crying ? 😞🥲
You have many riches to unfold.
Eu já conhecia, mas esta atuação sempre me emociona ❤
a case of you , one of the most beautiful songs on earth , joni one of the most beautiful song writers on my mind !!!🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃
I’m so lucky to be in my 60’s as I’ve had Joni as the soundtrack for my life.
At 71 one….she is still in mine too!!!!!!
41 here grew up with music constantly playing, (nearly) both parents was big Joni Mitchell fans
This here , the older we get the harder it hits
Saw her Newport… she still has I t going on, such. Sweet soul… I hope David Crosby is waiting for her at the gates heaven. Peace !!! Without her there would be no CSN&Y. I glad she has people around her that love and care for her. My picture of me is 30 years ago. Same but VERY WHITE HAIR what’s left of it.
me too!
I've never heard this song... and it's one of the most beautiful ones I've ever heard. I'll still be on my feet.
Same there, we’ll still be on our feet.
Joni and Brandi, it doesn’t get more beautiful than this!
Brandi Statton?
@@danjackson140Carlisle
And Mumford!
...and the pianist is also singing over Joni's lyrics after @1:45 and he sings almost so seamlessly you almost don't notice his voice over some of Joni's lyrics. Such a talented group of musicians...
I got quite emotional watching this - the ending of an era, but greatness will live on.
Just before our love got lost you said
I am as constant as a northern star
And I said: Constantly in the darkness
Where's that at?
If you want me I'll be in the bar
On the back of a cartoon coaster
In the blue TV screen light
I drew a map of Canada
Oh Canada
With your face sketched on it twice
Oh, you are in my blood like holy wine
You taste so bitter and so sweet
Oh I could drink a case of you, darling
And I would still be on my feet
Oh I would still be on my feet
Oh I am a lonely painter
I live in a box of paints
I'm frightened by the devil
And I'm drawn to those ones that ain't afraid
I remember that time you told me, you said
Love is touching souls
Surely you touched mine cause
Part of you pours out of me
In these lines from time to time
Oh, you're in my blood like holy wine
You taste so bitter and so sweet
Oh I could drink a case of you, darling
And I would still be on my feet
I would still be on my feet
I met a woman, she had a mouth like yours, she knew your life
She knew your devils and your deeds and she said
Go to him, stay with him if you can
But be prepared to bleed
But you are in my blood, you're my holy wine
You're so bitter, so bitter and so sweet
Oh, I could drink a case of you, oh darling
And I would still be on my feet
I would still be on my feet
What an awesome post…..I can guarantee. Diana Krall shed a river of tears and heart when she covered this song Case of You in such a respecting manner.
My god, I am moved to tears by this woman's artistry and performances. Joni Mitchell is a "once in a century" artist of integrity, quality and beauty.
really spectacular. when people get older and their range drops, it often doesn't do good things for them. What has happened with Joni's voice is the opposite. It is three dimensionally wonderful and warm, and she has wonderful taste in just how to use it.
Agreed. Bruce Springsteen is the same. Its like they need to grow into their songs to really make them come to life
4/17/24: Joni Seemed to evade me during my early years. Through my formative years, I was into discotecechs. It wasn’t until I saw Brandi Carlile bring her out to the Newport festival that I realized who she was she is a true poet, artist, humorist, lover, humanitarian! And that 80-year-old voice is unparalleled. Thanks for coming out of your hutch. If you’re ever get to the Pittsburgh PA area…… ❤❤❤
Whaou!! Quel moment de grâce!! Un ange passe... Deux très grandes dames.
There's a bit of Ms. Simone in ole' Joni's Vocals .. gal got Soul.
I don't think I can listen to this without crying. Truly breathtaking.
I don’t know who can listen to this, and not… or type
Brandi Carlisle’s voice is 🔥🔥
And Joni sounds even better in her golden years.
I think I love her voice now, it's so much deeper and huskier. I would love to hear an album of her previous songs and the voice she has now. It's like butter!
you should listen to her album "both sides now". its quite jazzy - a couple of years old already, but her more mature, deeper voice is there already.
Exactly
I agree. I listened to some of her older songs the other day and her voice is so deep now.
Sometimes music catches in your throat. As you clear the fog, tears are shaken loose. Something so beautiful and honest about this. Doesn’t hurt that it’s one of the most beautiful songs ever written and sung.
this comment
Bawling my eyes out in work
It's just a song. But oh what a song and what a singer.
i keep coming back to the best for a reason......XXX
What a beautiful duet with Brandi covering the high ranges Joni no longer 'goes to,' ... and now Joni's deeper, more mature voice adds new depths of wisdom and maturity to the song itself... wonderfully poetic.
Beyond beautiful. 😭 lost my husband 4 months ago…it’s so hard being human. Thank you, Joni…and all of these amazing musicians for creating a little heaven on earth. ❤
Sorry 😔 for your Loss 🙏...
If you can, check All of Joni's material.
I feel so Lucky and Grateful for hearing her "Circle Game" piece.
Her Lyrics are Brilliant ! 👌
Thank you🙏🏻
Sorry for your loss.
One of the most moving performances I’ve ever seen/heard.
Just amazing.
This performance literally brought tears a streaming :-) As a PURE compliment to Joni's genius is Brandi Carlile's AMAZING angelic voice! A little lyric play and detail that may not be all that obvious to folks who don't live in Canada where Joni is from, is the subtle reference to our Canadian National anthem, when she sings "Oh Canada . . . " . . . CLEVER song writing :-) She is a treasure . . .
This is such a delightful video. Thank you to whoever was involved in this.
Wow! That one made me cry.
You, incredible person, sang me through life. I cried then at the magic of your creative, masterful lyrics and soulful voice. My heart aches, and I cry now from the memories of loves lost, families gone as it was your voice that comforted me as it still does. You are a legend. No one will ever come close to your talent. Someone said Nobel, I agree.
How lucky are we to still have Joni with us? 🥺❤
Not very.
suddenly im crying like a little baby… such a joyous beautiful moment for a such heartbreaking song
Joni Mitchell is THE national treasure. Of all time.
International !
Joni is the only thing, I truly love about America. Maybe they are other places, things or people, for example Andy Mckee or Michael Hedges. But Joni is outstanding.
@@Goshoonkeysshe is Canadian, but maybe you mean North America as a continent?
There is something magic about this song that takes me away for 5 mins or so. It is such a transitional masterpiece. I'm at peace listening to it.
😊😊😊😊😊😊
This is a beautiful way to put it
I cried a few times, when the first videos of this concert appeared. Now You've got me again, thank You! A historical moment.
This is a partnership from the heavens.Brandi's beautiful heart, her talent, her generosity. Joni is back with a force.Any way you get music be grateful. Its my medication and i need it.
The POWER of sublime JONI and this accompanying voice of this singer Brandi. Even the deep rich voice JONI, even after being a chain-smoker... like a miracle unfold.
I can drink a case of JONI and STILL be on my feet.
But honestly, i have other singers i love just much if not more ,but it's simply because there is no BEST.
Every CLASSIC female i love is because they belong in a class all their own.
Being a singer-songwriter myself, self-taught on guitar& having a trans-continental style & love of music, JONI is right up there on my list.
There is so much love in this video! It makes me cry.
i felt this in the heart of my brazilian heart. thank you, joni. ❤
I am not easily brought to tears. But this song does it for me. I was fortunate to see her play this many years ago live when she was young and I was just a kid.
Im from brazil and i know joni because renato russo, a 80s brazilian rockstar played the last time i saw Richard in your acoustic show. Well...i fell in love for this great woman.
Wow just wow to my core. She has more value than any bank account on Mother Earth.
Deep but o so true
I can’t watch this without crying. Joni was the voice of my youth and is one of the greatest songwriters of the century. 🥹
Yes johnny was the voice of my youth as well... And Now that I am seventy years old, She is my inspiration and the voice of these precious seasons left to me.❤
I meant Joni...
Words desert me. She was and is a genius, and this sums up her legacy.
The piano player does such a great job helping Joni sing these lyrics. He's not getting the credit he deserves in this performance. You can see Brandi nod at the pianist at @1:45 signaling that he needs to sing over Joni's lyrics. The 3 of them did a beautiful performance.
I've never head this song performed more beautifully and by three individuals.
Awesome!
So good to hear Joni Mitchell sing!🎉❤
The unrelinquished joy that you can see on the musicians' faces, whilst they are performing with Joni, is spellbinding. Respect, joy and love resonates through this entire performance.
Exactly!!!
This was a religious experience for all. The reverence they each have for Joni is palpable.
Joni is as relevant .. as powerful.. as beautiful .. as ever she was.. my heart is bursting out of my chest.
Just great 🙏🏾
ive cried 10 times today to this, and another 10 to 'both sides now' , joni is really , really , really really taking me there, i adore u joni
Thank You for the music, Joni Mitchell
I love how all vocalists were so moved by the beauty of this moment. Joni is everything - her music, her tunings, her lyrics.
This is what makes us beautiful!
She still has so much to contribute to the music world. She has overcome such huge obstacles and sounds so unique and beautiful!! She is relevant today! She is back!
So happy to see Joni singing and feeling the admiration of her fans once again...she inspired me to become a Singer Songwriter ❤The Best!
oh my god....i love this song very much....😢
I loved you then and I love you now no words❤❤❤❤
Oh god i love her so glad i discovered her music and brandi
The contrast of these two create pure magic. The depth of a life lived…the soaring notes of a live clearly being lived and loved.
Amen to that. Beautiful
She is truly transcendent. So grateful to live in a time where Joni is still singing her wisdom x
Just wept my mascara off!
Wonderful and full credit to Brandi who has a fabulous voice too.
She sure did help bring Joni back to us. The power of music
no matter how many times I listen, I cry. ❤
This is beautiful. Had me tearing up
Lovely to see the people sharing the stage with this legend were as moved throughout this as I was.
Thank you Joni for the music you have given me throughout my life.
I ve watched this so many times.. the blending of their voices and the harmonies, the musicians and the whole scene is such a precious and moving moment in time.
One of my favorite songs. Explains life completely. With happiness comes great sadness as well. I’ve had my happiness. Sadness is what’s left, but it is what makes my life so complete like a wine with so many flavors to taste. Good bless. Thank Joni for all her work
This is very deep.
