- In this Shop Talk, Mike Stoops - Global Training Specialist, has a conversation with Briklyn Wuich - Sr. Global Product Manager, to talk about Meguiar’s all-new Hybrid Paint Coating.
It’s not a ceramic coating or a ceramic-based product. However, it definitely delivers very durable protection that uses a proprietary Hybrid Polysiloxane technology to produce a measurable coating on a car to protect the paint. Once this product is applied to the paint, it will cross-link, cure, and bond to itself and to the paint at the same time. In the end, it’s resistant to weather, chemicals, the elements, and everything that a car can be exposed to and is more tenacious when it comes to bonding and protecting.
With this coating for cars, you get all the benefits of a ceramic coating in a product that’s extremely easy to apply and costs much less than a traditional paint coating. One of the main goals for this product was to make it easier to use than a traditional coating, which is why it was developed and produced as an aerosol. It ends up being easier to apply to the pad, and it spread best to the painted surface.
There is enough of the paint coating in the can for you to be able to do two coats, even on a larger vehicle. If you do two coats to ensure you have even and thorough coverage, you would wait an hour between coats. Then, you want to give it one week for full curing and bonding. After fully cured, it will provide durable protection that lasts over a full year.
Before applying the coating, wash your vehicle and make sure it’s fully clean. If it’s not smooth to the touch, you want to clay the paint to remove all the above surface bonded contaminants. Next, you will want to remove any below surface defects like swirls, light scratches, stains, and etch marks with a compound as needed. Then, follow with the M122 to remove any oils from compounding and/or polishing. The better the paint is prepared before applying the coating, the better it will bond and perform, giving you maximum durability and performance

Bizarre, awkward video. So let me get it right, what are the benefits vs a true ceramic or even something like Gyeon Cancoat or CarPro lite ... a similar amount of prep is required, it's a sticky product to remove, you've to work in small areas/crosshatch, you've to let it cure etc etc... welcome to 2015.

If you don't believe it go back and watch him spray the product to the applicator pad and look at all the over spray that's being wasted.
My opinion as a detailer I would prefer this coating to any "ceramic" coating if you daily your vehicle because after a year your paint gets buildup of contamination, swirls, scratches, RIDS and etchings. I'd rather lightly polish and coat each year to keep it looking better and performing better. Every ceramic coating I've tried rated from 1 to 8 years last no longer than 2 years max without toppers which to me is cheating. I've had this last 10 months in Minnesota through winter with salt and weekly washes vs 3 year coatings failing after just 13 months even after a chemical and mechanical decon. This is also the only "coating" I've had register on my paint thickness gauge after curing.
So after my first coat is applied and I let it cure for 1 hour there will be light dusting on the car, if I want to apply a second coat do I use the surface prep to get the surface clean again for 2nd coat? Will the surface prep affect the first coat?
So all the prep and application cross hatch of a ceramic without ceramic protection? Lol plus a way way longer cure time.
Does it protect against UV rays ?
what about jetting and gloss???
Fast Finish x10? Yet, not a synthetic sealant nor a ceramic... But still a coating. You get the benefits of a coating, durability, strong hydrophobics, and ease of use. Another offering and option... Should be interesting. Can't wait to test/try... Question: Is it recommended as a stand alone only, or can it be used as a topper as well? I'm imagining TW Seal n Shine as a base because it's proven, and Meguiar's Hybrid Paint Coating as a topper/sacrificial layer.
Can it used on cars that are wrapped?

I'm using bead booster on top of this coating. Works great on this coating too.
Looking forward to using it this Spring. (will it be generally available by Spring?) Glad they addressed using HCW/HCD during regular wash. Looks like another great product

Can is use Meguiars Hybrid Paint Coating for wrapped car?
Great video, and I have a question. Ok I just bought a 2022 Honda Insight Touring and I'm getting into car cleaning on a serious level past the car wash drive through because I want to gift this awesome car to my son in a couple years. My question is, after I wash and clean & prep do I polish before using this product or should I skip polishing since the M122 is meant to remove everything from the surface before application of this product? Thanks.
