SiO2 Water Beading Protection in a Car Wash?! Meguiar’s Hybrid Ceramic Wash & Wax - Shop Talk

- In this episode of Shop Talk, Mike Stoops - Global Training Specialist, talks with Blake Beamish - Product Manager, about Meguiar’s latest addition to the ceramic family, Hybrid Ceramic Wash and Wax.
The initial thought behind the product was to incorporate hybrid ceramic technology with water beading protection in a wash that supports and adds to our Hybrid Ceramic Spray Wax and Hybrid Ceramic Liquid Wax. In essence, it complements Meguiar’s Hybrid Ceramic Wax and helps to keep the water beading at its highest contact angle. If you haven’t used our Hybrid Ceramic products, it will lay down a hybrid ceramic foundation for the other product to bond to and continue to improve performance.
With Hybrid Ceramic Wash & Wax comes with two separate components that deliver that intense hybrid ceramic water beading action: the wash solution and the SiO2 boost. You want to start with 3 gallons of water in a bucket. Then, put 3 ounces of wash into the bucket with water and add ½ ounce of the SiO2 boost.
Meguiar’s is also introducing a Hybrid Wash Mitt, which is a dual-sided mitt that where one side (the orange side) is optimized to hold onto the soapy suds from the wash while the other side (the gray side) is maximized to evenly apply the SiO2 boost and deliver the crazy water beading action to your paint.
There is no additional benefit to trying to add more boost or too much boost when washing with this product. It won’t harm the paint, but you will run out of the boost prematurely and have left over wash. Keep in mind that the two liquids that come with the wash are not sold separately. If you use the recommended ratios, you will end up running out of both components to the wash at the same time. There is a measuring cup with the lines on it included to help ensure the proper ratios are used and to make things easier. Remember to wash on a cool surface in the shade. Then, wash, flip your mitt, and wax. It’s as easy as that!
You can use any microfiber wash mitt with the Hybrid Ceramic Wash & Wax, but you will maximize your experience and performance if you use it with the suggested Hybrid Wash Mitt. The wax protection you get from the wash & wax is durable and beneficial but not intended as a substitute for a dedicated wax or sealant. Instead, it boosts or enhances pre-existing protection. If you don’t have protection on the paint, it does lay down a great foundation layer of water beading protection that you can add more protection to. It’s also a great maintenance product for any coating or ceramic wax for cars that may be on the market to boost and enhance it. It works especially well with Meguiar’s Hybrid Ceramic Wax, both liquid and spray.

Real excited to try this out. Turtle Wax's Hybrid Solutions Soap has been out quite awhile and it is still one of the only protection "infused" soaps I've tried that produces *actual* visible protection and water beading by itself. Even on a panel with zero protection and dead flat water behavior. I was in disbelief and geeked out for an hour the first time I used it.
Loving these new products, keep them coming guys, super excited for the new aerosol sealant/coating hybrid too! Fast Finish is a phenomenal product and has saved me so much time especially on mobile jobs. Hopefully the application is just as fast and easy, that's what made FF so special.

Unfortunately there is never an exact release "available" date because we do not control store schedules for putting new products on their shelves. Typically this happens some time between February and April for any given store.
You guys always makes me want to buy, try, use and collect all of your product line ups haha. Had the Deep Crystal, Mirror Glaze, Detailet NXT, Ultimate.. and next is Hybrid Ceramic line ups. Cool innovations

Im surprised the mitt is not advertised for Rinseless washes too... it’s perfect for rinseless washes. First pass with the chenille side, 2nd with the MF pad Side, last step dry.
I love the hybrid ceramic line. Why not sell it premixed?
If you watch the video it discusses this but ultimately the chemistry does not work that way.

I have an abundance of meguiars products in my garage guys I love em, one question no one has asked, how long do they last as in expiry date ? Ultimate line and hybrid line ? I owned them all for a long time and was never sure 😱😱😱 great products except that yellow towel always leaves lint everywhere :/

The shelf life of our products is 3-5 years if stored in a moderate/climate controlled area. This means not freezing in winter or in a garage in Arizona through Summer, etc. That being said they can still often last through some of those conditions or even longer than 5 years. Just shake well and pour some out. If the product has the same consistency and is not separated/watery/lumpy it is still good. Even if the product goes "bad" it doesn't become harmful it would just not apply and remove easily.

i've done that once or twice in a pinch and its worked just fine.

I tried it this weekend but didnt get any suds at all but after watching this video i noticed there was no suds on the car
Correct, although you should have seen some suds at the beginning when adding the wash to the bucket. However as you work and add the ceramic boost you will see that this wash does not suds much at all as is covered in the video.
Keep in mind suds are cosmetic. We all love to see them but they have nothing to do with the actual performance or benefits of a wash. This unique formula offers much more protection than a typical wash & wax. The formulation does not lend itself to high sudsing.
Can I use this if my car had a ceramic coating ?
Absolutely! This would be a great wash to maintain you coating and water beading. 👍

If my car needs to be clayed, and i want to use the hybrid ceramic clay kit, should i wash with this, then clay, then hit it with the spray wax? Also if i require a polish for fine scratches, which polish works well with this system? Thanks!
This wash would work better as maintenance after you have already restored the paint as there is no reason to put protection on the paint and then clay and compound it right off.
Our Ultimate Compound would be a great choice to remove light to moderate defects like scratches, water spots, oxidation, etc.

Hi Mr Lyricaly, It's available in the U.S you can buy it from alot of store's there that will ship it to you in France. I did the same when the product came out to let it ship to The Netherlands where this product isn't available.
When he’s using the wash mitt it literally looks like he’s washing with water only. I saw no suds. 🤷♂️
This product does have suds but certainly not be considered high sudsing and as with any wash after it settles for a while in the bucket the suds die down a bit.
And for your knowledge suds are something we all like to see psychologically however serve no actual function. They are simply cosmetic.
Hi Meguiar's, does the drying step need to be done with a towel, or can an air dryer be used?
Same question for the hybrid ceramic wax spray - once it's pressure washed off, can an air dryer be used?
I have a black car, so I'm trying to touch it a little as possible!
We really recommend towel drying for application of the Hybrid Ceramic products as the drying helps spread the product and remove any excess. That will not happen with only air. In theory though the Wash & Wax could be used that way if the car was thoroughly rinsed first and all the excess residue was already off the vehicle.

I live in Hawai'i, my truck is always exposed to the ocean, every day I'm parked literally like 30 ft from the ocean.. would it be ok to use this every week and your ceramic spray wax once a month for the rest of the trucks life? I been using your wash and wax from Costco every week for the past few years and recently started using your ceramic spray wax and love it

Does this repel dirt/ dust? I work in a place where I drive through a dirt road everyday and I want something to help me keep dust off my car. Thank you
It does not repel dirt but it would certainly help it come off easier.

What is the durability of this hybrid ceramic protection est?
How long any protection/wax lasts is highly variable and depends on a number of factors related to the condition of the paint, previous prep, and the environmental elements the vehicle is exposed to.

No, the new Hybrid Ceramic Wash & Wax is a very unique formulation and application. It will not work with a foam cannon.

Megs, for a worldwide company, why does it take so long to release products to your poor cousin regional locations out of the US, surely if a product is ready, it's ready for the world market?
Wish it was that simple. There are a lot of things that go into legally offering a product in another country. Yes, the formulation is already created but there are many other aspects to launching a product outside of the US that take time and include cooperation with our international partners.

No, unfortunately not. This is a very unique formula and application that will not work properly in a foam cannon.
