Thank you bro and thank you UA-cam... This is my second shower project I've been able to do myself and save money on calling a plumber. I'm a certified structural welder and thaks to UA-cam, I'm now a mechanic and plumber as well. There is actually educational chit on UA-cam, you just have to look them up.

Thanks Dustin! I recently moved into a new house that needs some small improvements, including this. Followed your instructions and now no more water coming from the spout when pulling up the lever! My copper pipe was much longer than the one you showed in the video, so I just needed to screw the spout on directly. Hopefully I didn’t miss anything but will keep the spare parts just in case. Thanks again Dustin!

Great vid Dustin I didn't have to remove my tub filler spout. I just laid on my back with a headlamp. I took a flat blade screwdriver from underneath and splayed the nylon latch-fingers apart and pulled up on the diverter knob on top of the tub filler. The nylon part with the diverter rubber washer seal slid down and out the bottom of the spout. I replaced the washer with a Draco "TUB SPOUT DIVERTER REPAIR KIT" from depot. I just used the NEW rubber washer seal and re-used the other original parts; lift rod and nylon diverter gate. My old rubber washer seal had a notch out of it.

seems pretty straight forward and easy enough to do with one hand, i just moved into a new house went to take my first shower and the diverter is seized in the down position so i ordered a new spout from amazon but living on a relatively remote island in the north atlantic in canada the prime free 2 day shipping is more like 10 days so ive got 5 more days. next step is the rotted floors which i see you have a video on that too the toilet leaks between the tank and bowl when flushed which has rotted the floor around it causing the toilet to lean 3 degrees to the left so i just put down towels to soak up the water and got a seniors cammode / toilet seat riser to put over it so im not putting any weight on the toilet itself and the toilet stopped leaking when flushed but the whole back half of the house is falling off
Just curious, I know you didn't say anything about shutting the main water supply off to change out this threaded diverter, nor did you say anything about turning it back on when you put it back on. I'm about to change one out at an apartment complex that has to have the entire building shut off, if I need to cut one water supply it's the whole building. I need to be absolutely certain that that's okay, to just spin the diverter off and take off, while leaving the main water supply on -which to me doesn't seem correct at all, but possibly it is. I'm just an amateur plumber. But it absolutely was not spoken of in this video one way or the other. So I just wanted to take this time to ask since I'll be doing this in the next couple of days. Please let me know if the main water supply needs to be shut off before proceeding with this replacement. Thank you
What a great freakin leak hack near the end, with the hole at the bottom of the caulk. 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼 But there totally wasn't any demo to throw in this episode. 🤣😭
In our shower our spout doesn’t have one of those diverters, does this mean I need to replace the spout with a new spout that has one? Because we cannot use our shower head
Hey Nicolas. That means you probably have a three handle system with a diverter in the middle. You may need to replace what’s inside that middle handle… Otherwise yes, you would need a diverter on the tub spout.
Hi Laura some of the stubborn ones can be tricky. Double check and make sure there isn’t a set screw underneath then they should spin off. Be prepared that you may need to replace that piece of copper pipe. A plumber my tried to use his torch and heat up the spout a little bit to get it to spin off. I hope this helps and good luck
Hi hope yes you’ve got this. Clear or white comes down to your preference. If everything is why I would probably use white but if white would not look good then I would use clear. I hope this helps
Is there any way to change the location of your diverter? My diverter is currently located on the tub drain, but my new shower head kit came w/ a spout that also has a diverter.

Hey Kristi… They have the universal ones now, if the pipe broke off in the wall you might need to get into the Wall but otherwise, take a picture of your fittings and a trip to the store. You got this
My Moen kit had a spout with the diverter at the front, which I guess is how they're made now. My plumber said he couldn't use it because my current spout has a diverter in the back. Is this true? What do I do if something happens to my current spout and needs replacing?!?
Hey Castlerock, he could have put on the new diverter after removing the old one. Sometimes technicians say things that aren’t true if they don’t wanna do it lol I have been one in the past. Not proud of it, but I once told a tenant that American standard toilet had a natural lean to them. Lol. 😅 it turns out his her dad worked at the American standard toilet plant in Danville lol.
Hey Marty, you might need to make an access panel behind the wall to check it out, but they all usually come off. I hope this helps… I also have an access panel video if needed.
There was no need to take the tub spout apart. Don’t twist the spout before loosening the set screw. That will score the copper to much. And tape off the spout before caulking, then remove the tape after smoothing the caulk. This leaves a better look.
I installed a mobile home faucet diverter in my homes tub/shower 20 years ago. Faucet starting to leak. I guess I need to do the job right this time but you have to give me credit for it lasting 20 years without a leak. I might be bugging you later with more questions lol.

I have a pipe with the male on the end. It is total of about 4 inches out from the wall. Can I buy a diverter that actually fits this without chopping down the pipe?
Hey Cb. Probably not, they may have a half inch discussion that builds out of the diverter but most are 3 1/2 off of the wall, don’t let cutting the pipe intimidate you. You can simply use an imp cutter to cut off the fitting and then they have compression diverters that fit right on. You got this
@@homemend Thanks for the encouragement, but did luck out with a screw on diverter that works with 4 inch. So no need to cut her down and use a slip on.
I have hard time removing my diverter it will turn a little bit but then it gets very tight. I did not see any screw hole that I have to loosen but maybe there’s something there holding it. So I stopped right now because I don’t know what to do.
Hey simple. If there is no set screw it should spin off. I have had to break them off to get them off. Sometimes they’re supposed to spin off but get seized. Twisting the copper line is possible. I just pray and go for it. You got this.
Idk if this is my issue but my kids went to use the shower yesterday and now i have a basement full of water. Said he would be back today to complete the job.
Hi Annie. If it’s the kind I use here they will never stop spinning. You would want to put it in the place where you need it and then tighten down that screw. This will prevent it from turning easily. I hope this helps
Hi Tammy, great observation… That’s because the water is already cut off at the tub. If you were doing some thing with the hot and cold side you may need to cut the water off at the street but since the water is already cut off to the tub and the diverter comes after we can work on it. You got this
Hi Dustin. I love your channel. Quick question, do I have to shut off the water to the whole house first? Or as long as the shower is turned off I can remove the faucet?
No problem...well, only a little. I got a Moen kit that just slides on and has a plate to cover the hole in the tub enclosure. It uses a set screw to tighten. The copper pipe from the wall is just a tad too long. I should have hack-sawed off a 1/4 inch or so and it would have fit closer to the tub wall, But, that's no worse than it was to start with, but now the shower works! Yea!
