Hiii so I've been watching alot of your videos and they're amazing & super informative. I tend to get a bit overwhelmed with information sometimes and there's just so many skincare products I dont even know what to use anymore.
This is my skincare routine at the moment:
    AM:
    - Pacifica vegan ceramide cleanser
    - Pyunkang yul toner/essence
    - The ordinary Argireline solution 10%
    - Moisturizer
    - elta md broad spectrum SPF 46
    PM:
    - Heimish all clean cleansing balm
    - Pacifica vegan ceramide cleanser
    - Pyunkang yul toner
    - The ordinary Niacinamide 10% & 1% zinc
    - Moisturizer
    - The ordinary retinol 0,5% in squalane (retinol only 2-3x a week on days when I dont use salicylic acid)
2-3x a week when I dont use retinol:
    - Heimish all clean cleansing balm
    - The inkey list Salicylic acid cleanser (I used to use this cleanser every evening but I felt like it was too much?)
    - Paulas choice 2% salicylic acid liquid exfoliant
    - Niacinamide (?)
    - Moisturizer
I do have quite a few questions now 😅
    1. Is niacinamide better in the morning or the evening? Since I have an spf with niacinamide in it, I thought it be better the use the niacinamide in the evening?
    2. Can I use the niacinamide when I use the retinol 2-3x a week or should I leave the niacinamide out on those evenings, what is good to use with retinol?
    2. I've also read its better to use argereline in the morning since the effects may dont last that long!
    3. I have issues finding a good moisturizer, I always thought I had oily skin but I also feel like its dehydrated, usually only my forehead gets oily fast, sometimes my nose or the parts beside my nose so I guess it's combination skin?? I'm 26 and my main issues are very visible fine lines on my forehead, tiny bumps/textured skin on my forehead and I have some pimples here and there, What kind of moisturizer would you reccomend?
    4. Should I use more hydrating serums? I just started including the Pyunkang yul toner since it seems to have a lot of good benefits and is hydrating.. on days when I use the salicylic acid products what kind of serums can I use with them or do I not need any?
Sorry for all these questions haha

      Hello 🙂
      1. The question is how much Niacinamide does the skin really need to show improvements, so nobody really tested this; therefore, it could be 😉.
      2. From my experience, retinol works best on its own, so not using any products in the same routine, even a moisturizer, is questionable unless you really experience dry skin or if the skin becomes dryer with continued use. But better would be to reduce the frequency of the retinol to only a few times a week.
      3. Yes, it looks like they are only temporary, so it may be better to use them in the morning. Still, they may show long-term anti-aging benefits.
      4. Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel is great (available fragrance-free if needed), or one that I recently tested is G&G Hydration station which is one of the best formulations I have tried so far and very affordable.
      5. Only if you feel the need; I mean, all of them contain hydrating ingredients already. So there is really no need to add more hydration or a moisturizer if you do not need it; skincare companies mainly do it to sell you additional serums/products you do not need. So it is primarily a sales pitch/marketing.

I have oily skin with red acnes that tend in to black spots.especially if I eat oily foods like ground nuts, diary products immediately I got my face with full acne. It's been a month since I'm using the foaming cleanser AM and PM with the ordinary niacinamide 10%-zinc 1% and also SPF 30.But before a week my skin has gotten rough and dry.The worst part I have big acne as it is very painful, that I've never experienced before.
What can you advise me for my routine care?

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  Рік тому +2

Hmm, ideally, you should avoid such foods entirely, if possible. That alone could resolve the issue.
Are you using the cleanser that I featured in this video? What sunscreen are you using? Have you used any of these products before, or are they all new to you?
If not, it might be a reaction to a particular product, or your skin might simply be overwhelmed! There are many possibilities.
But if the situation is severe, it might be best to visit a dermatologist or doctor in your area for their professional opinion!

I want to use cerave blemish control cleanser and gel in my skincare routine as I have acne and blemish prone skin as well as bumpy skin due to enlarged pores.

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  9 місяців тому

      Hey! 😊
I recommend getting a gel-type moisturizer, like the new one from CeraVe or The Ordinary NMF + Beta Glucan. Also, how often you can use this cleanser and the gel depends on your skin tolerance. Therefore, I also recommend getting a regular cleanser like CeraVe Foaming Cleanser to alternate with the other cleanser when using the gel; otherwise, it might be too much.

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  Рік тому +1

The gentle skin cleanser is for dry to normal skin. So it is not ideal for your skin type; that may already be the issue. So I suggest buying the Cetaphil Daily Facial cleanser, the CeraVe Foaming cleanser, or the La Roche Posay Effaclar cleanser. That should solve the problem.
Use it in the morning and evening. And if you like, you can follow with a non-comedogenic moisturizer such as Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel or G&G Hydration station.

Hi, I don't really understand what's the main difference between this one and the SA Smoothing Cleanser. I'm looking for a better cleanser to treat my blackheads and I can't decide between these two, any recommendations? Thank you

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  Рік тому

This product contains 2% salicylic acid, but the specific amount of salicylic acid in the SA cleanser is unknown, although it's likely below 0.5%. If it were higher, it would need to be mentioned on the packaging according to regulations, I believe. Therefore, this cleanser would be more suitable. However, the most effective way to eliminate blackheads is by extracting them either by yourself or professionally (which is likely the best option, especially if you have a significant number of blackheads).

Hi Melissa! I've found this video because tonight I was using this Cleanser and after noticed that my pores werent really that clean (still some black dots, nose with too much sebum, big pores, etc). I got very worried, I dont think Im using it wrong, but I just recently started using Retinal (0.03% tho) Do you think that could be the reason? I know the skin has to adapt to it first (using it every 3 days), but its not that red or dry either so Im not sure. Im scared to stop using my cleanser, thats the only one I have! What do you think I should do? Should I not use my cleanser the days I use retinal (at night). I have a Laroche Lipikar Baume lying around, maybe I could use that to cleanse. Feeling indecisive :(

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  9 місяців тому +1

Hey! 😊 The black dots on your nose are pretty normal, and I don't think that you can entirely get rid of them, as the skin (which is an organ) cleans, hydrates, and protects itself over and over again. Over time, your skin may produce less oil due to the cleanser and retinal you're using. Still, the fastest way to temporarily get rid of them is to extract them.
It's best to use a non-exfoliating acid cleanser when using Retinol, like CeraVe Foaming Cleanser. In the AM, you can use the Blemish/Acne Control Cleanser. LRP Baume is way too rich. If you want to use something, consider using a hydrating serum or gel-based moisturizer instead.

While we don't know the exact composition of these formulations, it's unfortunate that most companies still don't disclose this information. The best initial approach is to use the product on its own to see how your skin reacts. Based on that, you can adjust your routine accordingly. A good next step might be to incorporate an additional hydrating serum, such as one containing hyaluronic acid, to balance out any dryness-especially if you're planning to use this as your only cleanser. Alternatively, I would suggest using it in conjunction with a more hydrating option. For example, you could alternate between the Beauty of Joseon Green Plum Cleanser and the blemish control cleanser for a more balanced skincare regimen.

Hi Melissa, I am new to skincare. I was wondering if it is okay to use The Ordinary Retinol (0.2% in Squalane) and The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% and the AHA/BHA chemical exfoliants with this cleanser? I also am using trying out a Vitamin C serum with Salicylic acid and Niacinamide for both AM and PM, however I’m not sure if it is safe.
I also get a very oily T zone (hours after skincare), can I invest in Niacinamide and the other products I mentioned above? or should I approach this differently? Thank you🙏 :)

      Hey! 😊
      What are your skin concerns?
Are you currently using the cleanser shown in the video? Do you use a moisturizer as well?
Do not use your Retinol and AHA/BHA exfoliant in the same routine. Avoid using the cleanser shown in the video in the same routine when using your Retinol as it's also an exfoliant. However, you can use Niacinamide with Retinol.
Which Vitamin C serum are you interested in using? Additionally, I recommend using either a leave-on AHA/BHA exfoliant or an Exfoliating Acid cleanser.

@@MelissaVanDijkOfficial Hi! :) I used to have blemishes on my face but they have been reduced with the Cerave blemish cleanser over the past 2 years. I also always moisturised after. I also physically exfoliated once a week. However, this summer I wanted to try and expand my skincare routine for better skin in general.
I am indeed using the cleanser shown in the video and I do use a moisturiser. However, I have a very oily T zone throughout the day and in the mornings. I also have visible pores, uneven skin texture, skin dullness and forehead finelines.
For my first serum, I tried out the "Garnier 3.5% Vitamin C, Niacinamide, Salicylic Acid, Brightening & Anti Dark Spot Serum".
I have also invested in The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid. I would like to include other beneficial serums like Niacinamide.
Should I switch to a non exfoliating cleanser for times I would like to use Retinol and AHA/BHA exfoliants?

If this is your first time using a Salicylic Acid-based product, it's not uncommon for your skin to need time to adjust. @Melissa Van Dijk I noticed the big inflamed breakout on jawline for a week or week and a half, I guess.

Day : This cleanser like vdo > Avene Thermal spring water > Vichy hyaluronic > Skinoren cream (prescribed and been using it for a long time without issue) > cerave daily moisturizer > cerave sunscreen 50
Night : Cerave cream to foam cleanser > Avene Thermal spring water > Vichy hyaluronic > Skinoren > cerave moisturizer cream (or sometimes I used the lotion one) > eye cream if not forget and if I have a huge yellow inflamed pop up sometimes I also apply Erythromycin liquid on it. (prescribed)
I wish I could use stronger medicine like before (epiduo or erythromycin plus tretioin solution), but I'm on 3m. 🤰🏽 journey. There's nothing much I can use.
I don't know if I should continue this product or just visit the dermatologist asap. This makes me feel a little bit frustrated. I had worse trauma with Differine 4 years ago. It went from 10 pimples to more than a 100 on my face. I was so brave because everybody told me it may get worse before it get better. So I hold it for about 5 months and then decided to see a new dermatologist.

Okay, so the changes you're experiencing are likely due to hormonal imbalances and the drastically different food in Australia compared to your home country. This could definitely affect your skin for months or even years to come. I also lived in Australia for several years, and I noticed that people from Asia often tried to eat local food from their home countries, or went to places that sold such food. That is definitely something I would suggest.
Overall, the most important thing you can do in Australia is to protect your skin with the highest SPF you can find and wear protective clothing whenever you can. If feasible, use umbrellas for sun protection as well. Of course, if you have an outdoor job, that might not be possible, but there are excellent sun protection cloths available. I'm not sure what they're called, but they can provide great protection against the sun.
I would recommend a very simple routine:
      AM:
Clean your face with a mild cleanser such as the low pH good morning gel cleanser. However, Cetaphil Daily Facial Cleanser or Cerave Foaming Cleanser might be better.
      Pat the skin dry.
Apply your sunscreen (remember to reapply it when outside for several hours, after swimming, sweating, or when it has rubbed off). Ideally, use a mineral sunscreen from a reputable local brand.
      PM:
Clean your face with one of the suggested cleansers.
      Pat the skin dry.
Apply Paula's Choice BHA (every other day or daily if tolerated).
      Wait a couple of minutes.
Apply a gel moisturizer like The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA or Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel.
I would suggest not using other products, as you don't need them and overwhelming your skin can cause more issues.

I don't know of any good sunscreen brands specifically in Australia, but the best option is to ask for advice at the pharmacy regarding which one they would recommend. I believe a sunscreen gel might not be suitable for oily skin; instead, I would suggest opting for a fluid-like texture or a good lotion like mineral sunscreen.
Regarding moisturizers, both The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA and Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel are light formulations that will feel very comfortable on your skin. As for a toner, it's not necessary, but you can use one if you like.

      Hey! :)
Using multiple acne treatments in one routine can make the skin drier. Therefore you may want to change your routine to something like this:
      AM:
      - SA Cleanser
      - Niacinamide Serum
      - (Optional) Moisturizer
      - Sunscreen (if you're exposed to the sun)
      PM:
      - Non-Exfoliating Acid Cleanser like CeraVe Foaming Cleanser
      - Acnecide gel 5%
      - (Optional) Moisturizer
This routine should balance out the dryness, however, if it still stays the same, I recommend using your SA cleanser and Acnecide gel 5% on alternate days or add an additional hydrating essence or serum to your routine! :)
Also do you use your Acnecide gel 5% all over your face? If yes, I recommend just applying it on acne-prone areas and whenever you experience acne. This can reduce dryness and irritation significantly.
