    No drum mic’ing for the ears? Do you just send them straight to FOH?

    • @FanaticDrummer
      @FanaticDrummer 4 роки тому +1

      Two Sides of Me I’d rather just have a mix coming out of the mixer with the band. No drums. Pre-mix and fx drum micing never sounds good. Just muddies the in ear mix and the ambient sound of your kit which is definitely audible playing over the band mix. A throne thumper is good for kicks. Although I would never use stage wedgies or rely on ambient noise for drums. You have to hear the band in your ears even without drum micing

    • @glennmontis4372
      @glennmontis4372 4 роки тому

      Same question here. Fluff, as a guitar player, how are you getting drums into your IEM?

    • @FanaticDrummer
      @FanaticDrummer 4 роки тому +3

      Glenn Montis Honestly for a stage that small for most of their gigs, and since theres no loud amps behind the players, you could hear the acoustics over the in ears im sure. Its no different than a large practice space band set up. No stage noise, just drums. Which leaves the in ears at a safe volume.

    • @TotalEvo7
      @TotalEvo7 3 роки тому +2

      However, its always beneficial to have drums in your ears, even if the volumes are down to a bare minimum, wouldn't hurt. If I were a drummer, I would have a decent drum mix, and work the rest of the instruments around that.
      For you musicians doing your own mixes, start with your instrument first to get an adequate level, and then add the others and work your mix around it.

    Hi Fluff,
    Thanks for explaining your rig. It was quite insightful!
    Could you explain the signal chain for the noise supressor and why do you need an extra pedal instead of using the helix' noise supressor?
    I see that this video is "old" and this brings me to the second question.
    Do you still uses the extra noise supressor?
    I tried to find this information in your videos but I didn't have any success, that's why I decided to ask!

    Doesn't your Drummer need some of his stuff in his InEars? Like Kickdrum or Something?

    • @FanaticDrummer
      @FanaticDrummer 4 роки тому +2

      TBH. I’d rather have a kick thumper. I can do with just the band mix without drums in ears. Sometimes the kick and snare just dont sound good pre-mix fx from the source unless you run it post fx. Its too boomy or snappy. Also it saves your ears considering drums clutter your in ear mix trying to over power the ambient sound of the kit which still comes through the in ears. You can really lay into your kit and not get thrown off by it coming through. Its just better to hear the band cleanly without drums in the mix too much personally. Unless they REALLY sound good coming out of the board. Would never do premix.

    • @cerrinhendricks241
      @cerrinhendricks241 3 роки тому +1

      There is a possibility that it's quite loud when absolutely cranked with a boost in front of it through those speakers, but I also felt that was strange when you get tons of cheap loud clean bass amps which would probably be louder.

I might have thrown my arm over his shoulder like we were best buddys......yeah....lol but he was crazy nice about it. That was such a great show since I love both circa survive an Mewithoutyou, the people I was with didn't think they liked mewithoutyou bit after their set they realized what an amazing g band they were. Such great energy that night. I left soaked in sweat, as I've said before, only some of it was mine. I caught a cold walking from the venue to my car cause the temp had dropped and I was dressed in shorts an a t shirt but I bought a circa survive hoodie but it was so soaked in sweat it didn't help lol. • @kieranblacker
      @kieranblacker 3 роки тому

      I can’t be a 100% but I would hazard a guess that………
      All the lines feed into the splitter, which (as fluff described) splits the signal two ways, one to the front of house, where they would have full control of what is going on their end. The other split would feed into their IEM mixer (X32), which, I believe they can control from an iPad and set up their own IEM mixes for each band member. This is how I think they do it. Rhett Shull has a great video on how they do something similar for their band.
      As far as your question about the drums, I don’t know that one either, I was wondering the same thing.

      Reliability and being able to replicate the same sounds night after night would be more important to the audience, who do pay the bills at the end of the day. Plus saying there is no difference in tone between bands has more to do with modern EQ and tonal trends than it does amp modellers. I personally think both are equally great or terrible depending on the person operating them.

    I've been trying to find stuff on a pedals baby used for bass with Helix and haven't found anything. I'm guessing if the bassist in your band is using it then it's sounds good and is loud enough?

      Cody Smith I brought a pedal baby home and it didn’t last the night. Loud yes but dead sounding for guitar. Used a Pod500. My 25 watt Traynor quarterhourse has better sound. So I brought back the pedal baby. Not for me.

    Didn't get how you get the drums to your in-ears. No trash mic connected and also no other mics from the drums going to the splitter. Please enlighten us :D
