From the album "Ten Summoner's Tales." Every song a unique gem of a story in a variety of musical styles and extraordinary musicianship. I highly recommend the whole album.
Sting is one of the best story teller artist, timeless lyrics and eccentric music arrangements! The whole album is a masterpiece of tales. Ten Summoner's Tales, appropriately title hit album.
Some of my favourite Sting tracks: Fields of Gold, Shape of My Heart, If I Ever Lose My Faith In You, Let You Soul Be Your Pilot... And that's just scratching the surface! 😅 He has so many amazing songs!
Such a fantastic song! My fave though is "Shape Of My Heart" that they recorded in the same room as Seven Days. I'd be happy for you guys to just go down a Sting rabbit hole for an entire month!
Sting's third album, The Soul Cages, often gets overlooked as it's a little darker musically (his father had recently passed away), but it has some of my favourite tracks - All This Time, Mad About You, and the grim but fantastic title track, The Soul Cages.

"Ten Summoner's Tales" is my favorite solo album by Sting, and reading the other comments, I see I'm not alone. My favorites from this great album are "Heavy Cloud, No Rain" and "Nothing 'Bout Me" (aka Epilogue, the album closer). Both are super funky and jazzy, I think you'll love them!
Sting has been a staple in our household since his time with the Police. We tended to buy the albums/CDs as soon as they came out. This one we got the CD but also they released a film of the album... of course we have it on VHS. This session is from that film. Incredible musicianship as usual.
This is such a clever song. It's all very subtle but there is so much going on here and the lyrics are hilarious. The band he assembled here is absolutely top notch too.
I don't watch a lot of music videos, so while the complexity and sound of the songs are important, I'm often more focused on the lyrics. If you read the official lyrics from the album, there is an alternate lyric posted when he's talking about how the new guy doesn't scare him. "The mighty flee (flea?)" Knowing this helps tie the next few lines in and connect them to his previous lines, pointing out that he's more frightened than he implied, and with good reason. 😂
I can't believe you two were so overwhelmed by the musicality that you missed out on the story of the song. You two LOVE a story song. This goes straight to the heart. His love gave him one week and there's another rival for her heart. He counts down his options during the week. And by the end of the song, the singer still hasn't made his decision. So good along with the music.
As far as i can tell it's actually 5/4. Listen to the high hat pattern. Its a 4/4 high hat pattern that resolves every 2 bars. Atleast as far as i can tell. But whatever it is i love when artists think out of the box and use something different than the usual 4/4, 3/4 or 6/8. As for Sting other songs that can be mentioned is "I was brought to my senses" with it's 7/4 time signature and one of my personal favourites "I hung my head" with it's 9/8 time signature.
It gives it a strangely latin feel. In an interview he was asked why he uses the complex time signatures, he said when they make it illegal he'll stop.

Vinnie Colaiuta, the drummer and a legend amongst drummers was "discovered" by Frank Zappa. David Sancious on Keys, the original E Street band keyboardist, who played with Jack Bruce and for years with Peter Gabriel, and is also an outstanding electric guitar player, and Dominic Miller, Sting's longtime partner in crime. Extraordinary musicians!
About what you said on Sting's use of space in his songs. Sting recounted that he went to see Chick Corea's acoustic band and that bass player John Pattitucci was playing these lightning fast runs on his fiddle bass and afterwards walked up to Sting. And said "You've been such a big influence on me with all the spaces you leave" at which Sting said that he truly couldn't tell. I guess the best example of Sting leaving space in his music is The Police' "the bed's too big without you" which if you come around to reacting to that one, I'd urge you to seek out the live version.
And what a lineup! Sting's old standby Dominic Miller on guitar, drum legend Vinnie Colaiuta, and on keyboard, David Sancious, an old Peter Gabriel alum.

This is my ultimate desert island song. I have probably listened to it hundreds of times and I still hear new things when I do.
Sting is just unbelievably brilliant. That’s all.
Listen to Sting’s Brand New Day performed with Stevie Wonder for his birthday. Pure joy!!!!
He’s one of the best that ever did it. 🤘
Also recorded in same session, epilogue, nothing bout me. Upbeat and one of the best keyboard solos I've heard. Worth reviewing
Vinnie Colaiuta's drum work on this is so detailed and intricate...it elevates the song to a different place, loved your reactions thanks!
Brilliant composition.
I love the drums in this song. Vinny is a technical genius
And what a lineup! Sting's old standby Dominic Miller on guitar, drum legend Vinnie Colaiuta, and on keyboard, David Sancious, an old Peter Gabriel alum.
I used to do Trade Show set ups at convention centers and halls, and the guy who did the sound would always play this to check out the sound system. Always brings back memories for me of being on the road for these shows. Love this album "Ten Summoner's Tales
'Shape of My Heart' is a must listen!! Its from the same album and such a brilliant song.
I am so glad you got to this song. Sophisticated lyrics and composition.
The talent in this room is insane
Great to see your reacted on this beautiful song,we need more Sting,as also The Police 🎶♥️
'If On A Winter's Night' is an amazing seasonal album by Sting. I have it on a loop during the Winter months :)
Great reaction as always, my friends!
listen to this album many times every winter
I love this song! Sting is an amazing artist!
The wit of the lyrics in this one always cracks me up.
You two are the best! Always putting a smile on my face!
