Lyrically, Sting's "Fortress Around Your Heart" is one of the best songs ever written. You may enjoy that one. Two other masterpieces by Sting are 'All This Time' and 'If You Love Somebody, Set Them Free.' When you're ready to get back to The Police, I strongly recommend 'Don't Stand So Close to Me.' As teachers, you will definitely appreciate it. By the way, Sting (Gordon Sumner) is a former English teacher.
Sting's Fragile always brings 😢 to my eyes. It's not an often mentioned song but I 💕 it. Emotional. Sting is amazing . I am enjoying your discovery of Sting; you have so much more to go 🤗
Try "Fortress Around Your Heart" next from his first solo album 'Dreams of the Blue Turtles'. Great song! Thanks for listening and sharing! Peace from SF
Ironic, as a game show host is a way better president than the bribe taking, bumbling, stumbling, alzheimered, pedophile that currently resides at 1600 Penn. Ave.
Another great one from Sting from his Ten Summoners tales album. Another great song from this is 'It's probably me'-so atmospheric. For something really special watch from his 60 Birthday concert a live version of 'Brand New Day,' which features Stevie Wonder with him, playing great Harmonica-Colin Ward
@@sandylee6025 Thanks Sandy, yes I love that song. There seems to be two versions, the one from the album and then one Sting did with Eric Clapton and David Sanborn(Sax)
@user-fu4xm4hs3j I was so sad to hear David Sanborn had passed. He was a favorite on Sunday morning jazz in the 80's. I still prefer the original. Gregory Porter does an excellent cover which I'm sure you have heard. If not you should check it out. 😊
@@sandylee6025 Yes sad about David Sanborn, and like you I prefer the original. Have you seen live version of 'Brand new day ' from Stings 60 birthday concert with Stevie Wonder on Harmonica, great to check out.
With his solo act, plus the police, perhaps the greatest extensive music catalog in history. The number of great and interesting songs Sting has is difficulty to match
Underrated explain ?Sting has had a stellar solo career multiple Grammy winner, award winning musical on Broadway and the West End in London and many successful tours and a Las Vegas residency.
Don't forget "Shape Of My Heart" whose wonderful riff is also incorporated in his duet with Craig David's "Rise And Fall". Both songs are majestic and must be heard.
I'll add my vote for "Fortress Around Your Heart" as well, and I'll add his fantastic cover of "Windmills of Your Mind" from the movie "The Thomas Crown Affair".
The bit in the video where Sting's dressed as a king, sitting on a throne on the beach with the sea washing over him, references the most famous story about king Canute (or "Cnut"). Canute was king of England from 1016 to 1035 (and Denmark from 1018 and Norway from 1028 - he did alright did Canute!). According to the story, he was displeased with the excessive flattery of his courtiers, who were telling him that, as king, he could do anything he wanted to. So he ordered his throne to be placed on a beach at low tide, and all the coutiers to stand beside him. Then he ordered the tide not to come in on his authority as king. Needless to say, the tide came in anyway and they all got soaked, after which he turned to them and said, "Let all men know how empty and worthless is the power of kings, for there is none worthy of the name, but he whom heaven, earth, and sea obey by eternal laws." In other words, "I'm not a God, just a man with a crown on his head". Whether the story is true is a matter of historical debate, but it's gone down in English folklore and legend regardless.
I was lucky enough to see Sting in the early 90's live at the Miami Arena. Sting opened his set with this song!! Melissa Etheridge was his opening act!!! What a great concert!!
a quirky dance Sting video you will enjoy is We'll be together Tonight. Very 80s dance vibe. But my personal favorite of his is Fortress Around Your Heart. Amazing apology song.
The Police, The beds too big without you, or the solo jazzy version. Fortress around her heart. Bring on the night. Wrapped around your finger. All great tracks, give them a listen.
I was a stage hand during the production of all of the videos from the album Ten summoners tales. Sting is the most down to earth pop star I've ever worked with.
3:31: Sting actually played the harmonica part for this particular song, but he had a couple of other harmonica players on this album too, one of whom I saw play live on tour at a bar in NZ, Brendan Power, who played chromatic harmonica. All of Sting's regular band members and session musicians are all so equally talented in their own right.
I think I may have commented in one of your previous Sting reactions that the thing I like about him the most is that he is never really cried to fit in. I have always said to be a successful artist you have to lead and not follow and he has certainly done that during the course of his career.
Sting made an incredibly personal album prior to this called, SOUL CAGES, which dug into a lot of his personal demons and life. Sting had said he had gotten all of the personal shit out on the SOUL CAGES album, which was cathartic for him. TEN SUMMONER'S TALES is the follow-up to the SOUL CAGES album and reflects a happier Sting. The entire album is brilliant. This song was his only hit but from start to finish the songs on this album are excellent. Sting's first solo album is called, DREAM OF THE BLUE TURTLES. You have not yet reacted to anything from this album, which is shocking considering it is likely his most popular album. Songs to check out - "If You Love Somebody (Set them Free)", "Love in the Seventh Wave", "Fortress Around Your Heart", "Moon Over Bourbon Street", and the iconic, "Russians", which unfortunately is a song that he stopped singing live because the Cold War had ended but now that our political environment is what it is wouldn't surprise me if he brings it back to live shows. Sting's Second solo effort is also brilliant, called NOTHING LIKE THE SUN. You already reacted to "Englishman in New York" & "Fragile" but also check out - "We'll Be Together" & "Be Still My Beating Heart", Sting's genius knows no bounds and there are a ton of songs to still react to, whether it is solo or with The Police.
The drummer on this is Vinnie Colaiuta. Around 2005 Sting was getting a band together to go on tour. Vinnie wasn't available, so he got Josh Freese who is the new drummer in Foo Fighters. Sting told Josh that he's the only drummer besides Vinnie to make it swing right. 🥁
My favorite artist of all time. Love , love , love Sting. This is one of my many, many, many, many, many favorites. I am a HUGE fan. Really any song that you react to from Sting, I’ll be giving you all a thumbs up 👍🏽Not to mention, Sting puts on an amazing Concert. If you get the opportunity, take it.
Wrapped around your finger was the video with all the candles. Also, wow listening to the lyrics of this song in TODAY's world. Just lets me know that people were seeing it all for what it was long before the rest of us started to see. I guess back when this came out I didn't really understand. Now I see it in a whole new light. Always liked this one too.
One you both might enjoy, - about the pain of letting go when a relationship ends; " Be Still My Beating Heart". The video really echoes & brings the lyrics to life.
sting is one truly best singer and song writer from being in the police and solo his words and sound is aways takes you on journey and videos amazing with all his music been a fan since 1983.
Thank you for reviewing this track. This is one of my favorite by him. Sting is just a fabulous musician. He survived the test of time without the Police and showed that he was the key talent on the band.
This song was on my instant play list for almost two years it was that good in my opinion. Ten Summoner's Tales was a fantastic album from the early 90's. The whole album was genius. "Fields of Gold" and " Shape of My Heart" are my other favorites from this album.
The lead off track to his Ten Summoner's Tales, possibly his best solo effort. So much great stuff on there like "Seven Days" "Shape Of My Heart" or "Something The Boy Said" (my favorite). He had such a great band, too: Vinnie Colaiuta on drums (check out his design on "Seven Days") David Sancious on keyboards and especially Dominic Miller, who gets that long but clean sustain on his guitar. Miller still plays with Sting as far as I know...I saw them in 2022 and Miller was still rockin' that old Telecaster of his most of the night, except on acoustic guitar songs.
I love how lyrically it can be interpreted that when he sings "You could say that..." might not be about what he's thinking or doing, but what other ppl are saying or thinking about him, like newspaper tabloids writing about celebrities. etc...
Sting is a wizard and philosopher of our age. When all the singing is over the outro always gives me chills. Like many others my next recommend would be If you love someone set them free.
Jay & Amber, you'll love his "If You Love Somebody Set Them Free", "Fortress Around Your Heart", and "We'll Be Together"!!!
"Fortress Around Your Heart" is my fave of all time from solo Sting.
Agreed!! Especially We’ll be together! One of my favorites.
lately, “russians” is getting relevant. that one was really good from his first solo.
Wrapped around your finger is with the candles
Came to suggest the first 2, but certainly wouldn't argue with the 3rd!
I’m voting for a reaction to “Fortress Around Your Heart”.
Yes, please!
Yes, yes, yes! 😁
seconded
Ditto!
Amen! Totally suggested that one more than once.
The Police video with all the candles is "Wrapped Around Your Finger".
I love "Englishman in New York" and "Russians." Thanks for sharing.
Russians is a really good song.
They already reviewed Englishman in New York, FYI.
@@aliciazambri4237 I keep hoping they'll do Jamaican in New York. Fun take on it.
Russians… I haven’t thought about that one in years, but yes!

100%
My favorite solo song from Sting is If You Love Somebody Set Them Free.
"Shape of my Heart," by Sting is a DOPE! I think this one of his most beautiful & deepest songs.
Absolutely. The imagery and wordplay are excellent, and it is, indeed, absolutely beautiful.
Totally agreed. Fields of Gold too.
To be exact, it's Sting and Dominic Miller, his wonderful guitarist for many years, who wrote the music for that gem.
I believe Sting is one of the best artists around.
Top 5 ever
Right behind Johnny cash
*Be Still My Beating Heart* - Sting classic
I think people always forget about this one - but it's one of his best!
90, 91...? Great first time sting song to get into him. This song was so ahead of its time
I'm proud that Sting is from my home town of Newcastle upon Tyne, England.
This video was actually shot at Wardour Castle in Wiltshire, England.
I was wondering. I thought I saw the Glastonbury Tor.
@bjdefilippo447 Yes I think you're right. Wardour was used for its interiors and doorways
Two Words: Seven Days
That is all. 😮🎶
I definitely agree that Sting is a genius. Love this song.
Sting said his song "FORTRESS AROUND YOUR HEART" is his favorite of all his songs. I agree!!! 🙌
Ten Summoners Tales is a masterpiece! The band on this record ...whew!!
Sting's Fragile always brings 😢 to my eyes. It's not an often mentioned song but I 💕 it. Emotional. Sting is amazing . I am enjoying your discovery of Sting; you have so much more to go 🤗
They did review Fragile a while back on the channel. Looks like it didn't get any copyright strike so you should be able to find it.
"Fortress around your heart" is a masterpiece!!
Try "Fortress Around Your Heart" next from his first solo album 'Dreams of the Blue Turtles'. Great song! Thanks for listening and sharing!

Always loved "they all seem like game show hosts to me." Funnier now.
Exactly 💯

This song! This song! This song! MASTERPIECE! Anytime it comes on, YOU LISTEN and TURN UP!
The one Jay liked was "Wrapped Around Your Finger", not "Spirits in the Material World".. my favorite one too.
They Dance Alone is such an emotional powerhouse and deep song about humans and war. Brilliant
"Shape of My Heart" (Official Music Video) is a stunningly beautiful song and scenery.
❤Sting!
Sting - “Fortress Around Your Heart”. One of his best!
fortress around your heart !
So many key changes in this song. Amazing!

The one with the room full of candles was the Police, but I’m pretty sure it was ‘Wrapped around your finger’
Sting- "Fortress Around My Heart"- Get It Next..
The one with the candles is "Wrapped Around Your Finger". "Fortress Around Your Heart" is a must.
'When We Dance' is one of my favorites from Sting.
Fortress around your Heart and Russians. So great!!!
This entire album is one of the best albums of all time
Right up there with Warrant Cherry Pie.

Yeah, who under-rates him? Nobody. The whole music world acknowledges his genius.
"Love is the Seventh Wave" should be the next one. My favorite from his early solo days.
"Be Still My Beating Heart" by Sting is another great song.

"Shape of My Heart"
"If You Love Somebody Set Them Free"
"Seven Days"
"Russians"
"Brand New Day"
Damn good song,, I can totally understand his insight about loosing it all because humanity deals a hard blow ..
Shape of my heart is an absolute masterpiece
Like Van Morrison and U2, Sting's songs speak truth. And that's the ultimate compliment. Great great artist!
They dance alone. really important message and a great tune

Let him blow your mind by singing medieval troubador songs, "Songs from the Labyrinth"

The whole album Ten Summoner’s Tales is a series of stories across a variety of genres, with a nice hidden pun in the name!
