  • This episode begins my first play through of Pathfinder Kingmaker for PC on the Hard setting. I walk you through the character creation process, give a description of all the classes, races, and break down a number of game mechanics for those that may not know what they are looking at.
    I've played tabletop RPGs for decades and pathfinder has been a particularly good experience. I'll be comparing the computer game to the table top version to see what differences might appear and once I get some more experience in the game I'll be making more specific class guides. Enjoy!
    If you are interested in seeing my groups actual tabletop games we are live streaming our game sessions at TableTop2KeyBoard (TT2KB). / tt2kb Our current game session is a D&D 5e game and we hope to see you there. I'll add a link later!
    If you are looking for character build guides for the pen and paper version of Pathfinder this is an excellent source. It's usually built around optimization rather than roleplaying which should be fine for a video game. Do be aware though that some of this info may not be 100% correct for this video game.

    THIS has got to be one of THE BEST, if not _the best_ PF:KM series availiable. The way you explain everything is incredible. Not too deep, no nonsense rambling. A tomb of knowlege given articulatly and efficiently with real world table top experience to throw in and contrast with. I'm only a few eps in and i already know i'm subbing and going to watch the whole series and whatever else you have in this space. This channel is HIGHLY under rated. Thank you very much for this!

      Thank you very much. It’s been a while since I’ve made content but I’ve been getting tempted to do something.
      Over the pandemic my friends and I had a twitch channel called TT2KB aka tabletop2keyboard. We had live table top games, an art show, a music show, and a long form podcast with guests. Actually was lucky enough to talk to Larry Elmore and Luke Gygax to name a few.

    really annoying is that during the last stages of the game enemies are neutral instead of evil - which I can understand for beasts but in my view some of the so-called chaotic neutrals at the end are de facto MUCH more evil than bandits or even undead, especially the end boss - supposedly chaotic neutral - is the most evil thing there could ever be

      I know this comment is a year old, but I don't even care if my reply isn't read. This bothers the eff out of me, both in Kingmaker and in TTRPG in general. In my experience, TTRPG players with evil characters play a long game and tend to just part ways with the party once their purposes are served. Every problem player in the world chooses CN so they can say "lol, not evil bro" and "I have no moral compunctions of any kind" in the same breath. At least when a character is labeled evil, there is an honesty to it. Players who play chaotic stupid and do the truly evil shit without having the decency to admit their immorality really grinds my gears.

    • @ReignSurvives
      @ReignSurvives  Рік тому +4

      Amen. I think with Evil you have an Immoral character. While with a Chaotic Neutral character it could mean different things. It could be an Amoral agent that lacks the ability to make moral decisions, or as it’s usually played it’s a (cart man voice) “I do what I want!” Character.
      We had some pretty in depth discussions about the Alignment systems in D&D on my podcast “The Wisdom Check”. If you are interested you can find it on UA-cam or on any podcasting service. The UA-cam channel is Tabletop2keyboard

    Thank you for describing the paladin categories in such detail, you depth of knowledge of the game is impressive, so I had to like and subscribe. I am a newbie to this type of gaming, so that leaves a big blank for creating the other character types. My solution to my problem is to purchasing a core gaming rule book. Which edition of the role playing game book do you recommend that would be closest to the computer game that would fill this tremendous knowledge gap? Thank you in advance.

      I’m glad that helped. I’d be happy to explain other classes in depth for people at some point. Also thanks for the sub
      Also every Monday night at 10pm cst I do a TTRPG talk show called “The Wisdom Check” it’s on the channel TT2KB
      As for what edition you want: this game is built on the Pathfinder 1st edition ruleset. Most of what you will need is in the players hand book. However some of the classes are from other books such as the Advanced Players Guide.
      There is a brand new edition of Pathfinder that came out really recently. It’s rules will not be the same as what is represented in this game. So make sure you get first edition if your goal is to learn for this game.

    Since you play fighter type can you make a tank and a general tighter build?

    • @ReignSurvives
      @ReignSurvives  5 років тому

      I actually have a different video where I use a respec mod and rebuild Valerie into a better pen & paper tabletop tank build
      I make her a standard fighter, then build her for two-weapon fighting. Her main weapon ends up being a longsword and her off-hand weapon is a light shield.
      Normally in pen&paper Pathfinder games “tanking” doesn’t work. There isn’t an Aggro mechanic so cranking up armor class and hit points would just leave a character ignored on the battle field. So typically you would need a way to force enemies to stay near you such as trip builds
      But in this video game it seems that bad guys just go to the closest character and stick to them meaning stacking armor class is a viable method of tanking. The monk fighting styles offer some interesting ways to improve tankiness. Check out the Crane style feats. Basically they improve fighting defensively. Look at missile shield if you are dealing with ranged attacks. Toughness is good for more health and dodge is usually an easy one to qualify for which grants even more AC.
      Be mindful of the different kinds of defenses on a character if you are trying to build a tank. You need to make sure to boost your saving throws or your tank will be easily defeated with spells and spell like effects such as fear. Also, note that touch armor class is pretty important. Certain attacks will ignore your armor and will instead only count your other forms of AC. So keep your touch AC high of possible.
      I wasn’t sure if the rest of your question was a typo meaning “general fighter build” or if you meant a more streamlined fighter build but let me know and I’ll try to answer.

      Hard to say it really depends on how the game distributes it’s saving throw targets. Some enemies might be able to drain attributes which would be brutal. That said there isn’t much use for intelligence on a typical paladin. Dex isn’t super important either. Paladins get ‘Divine Grace’ that adds charisma to saves so maybe you can dump and not suffer

    Sad true is that paladin is one of most useless class in pathfinder. As melee you can do some dmg but you are fixed to evil enemy and you are realy glasscannon. In most fights somethink kill you before you do some dmg. I found 2 playable pure paladin builds. Classic paladin with longbow as pure dmg + bufer and Hospitaliter with longbow as healer/suportdmg. Longbow is the way how to eliminate your lack of survivability. Never trust in heavy armor. Heavy armor is not synomyme for defence. If you want melee twohand destroyer go dragonknight, better dmg, better caster, better defence. Better all. Another way for paladin is multiclassing 2 levels from any paladin to CHA based builds. For example scale fist monk. You will get +CHA bonus to saves. +8 to all saves? Its living hell.

      Useless?? At level 11 you get Mark of Justice wich grants your charisma bonus to attack rolls and to the AC of all your allies, that's a +10 to attack rolls and AC to every party member in late game. Yeah it's only against evil aligned mobs but, most bosses are evil so It's not a useless class at all, specially in unfair difficulty.
