Hey mate, thankyou for your video, I enjoyed watching it. I'm from down under and I own an original H-D Livewire. It cost me $50,000 AUD that's $35,635 USD. The Livewire's city range is achievable, I have done it. I am no ace motorcycle rider, even after 40 years riding experience I'm still learning to ride better and safer. I used 91% of the range doing it in the city streets and got 213.8 km ( when you divide the km by 91 and times that answer by 100 you get almost 146 miles for 100% range ). My city has signpost speed limits of 80km ( 49.7 miles ), 60km ( 37.3 miles ), 50km ( 31 miles ) and 40km school zone ( 25 miles ). Except where the traffic dictated what slowed down speed i could travel at, I mainly rode at or just above those signposted speed limits. How did I get the claimed range? I programmed ride mode A with 83% power, 100% regen braking, 78% throttle and TC set at medium. I have owned the bike now for 6 months and have ridden 7888 km. Total fuel cost for me has been a massive $2.42 AUD that's one dollar and seventy two cents USD ( I use excess solar at home to charge bike up and free DC chargers when I am riding out on the open road )

I rode an Aprilia Tuono for a few years. And I'm not a fan of electric cars. But I could get on board having a fast bike that you don't have to shift. Much much safer. They do need to add some sort of noise so people could hear you coming. I'll get one a few years from now when they are cheaper and more readily available
I also believe in the flood of ELECTRONS .... I NEED the LiveWire ONE NOW .... after all these BMWs, HONDAs and the other smelling combustion engines .... LiveWire ONE is really MY Future .... it's NATURE PURE 😁
Custom mirrors.. I heard that. And that can be a game changer. I am drooling over this bike. I'm going to have to knock over a newsstand. That is a little pricy. Wow! I am going to have to swing it. It is too sweet. I think I have to do it. The center of gravity is visible when you see it ridden. It looks stuck to the ground. Or on rails. 🤤
I understand all this electric scooters, electric motorcycle it’s all about saving gas I get it you guys solved that. Here’s my another concern. Since it’s electric cars don’t hear you but, you’re there. For safety can they put speakers with module with different sounds of motorcycles so that cars they know you’re there. I hope they thought about that.
Fun fact: While the Venn diagram of the people who want Harley Davidsons and the people who want an electric motorcycle has no overlap, there’s a surprisingly substantial overlap between the Harley Davidson market and the vibrating butt plug market.
Great video, answered all my questions except for "why do motorcyclists think they don't have to wait behind other cars waiting for a light to change?" D-Bag move
Test rode the LiveWire. It was okay. Found it too heavy for my taste. Prefer my Zero DSR. More range, easier to charge, less cost. Zero as a company has had more time to refine EV bikes as well.
A motorcycle is no replacement for a Vespa. EV or otherwise. If Vespa made an electric model with the power equivalent of my 300, I’d switch right away
Fact: Electric bikes will only ever be city commuter bikes until they increase the range to 250 miles of highway riding (with a 30 minute or less charge time). - And that day can't come soon enough. I own a Zero SR, and in the city, damm - it's the shit. But it can only go 70 miles at 70mph. Which means I don't ever take it out of the city. Which is a shame. Someday, hopefully soon, batteries will 2x or 3x their capacity (in a given size).... - In the meantime, I really wish Livewire and Zero et al, would start building bikes FOR the city experience. Some usable storage, GOOD accommodations for a passenger, etc...
Hopefully. Because when that happens, the price of the current Livewire will drop significantly. Then you can afford such a thing even as a low earner xD... However, I fear that this will still take a very long time.
We need a real quantum leap in battery technology. Sure, modern batteries are better than the old lead acid of years gone by, but it's only a minor improvement. And, they are not sustainable. The rare metals in modern batteries are going to be problem. Only so much available and recycling is still a question. Until I can get 300 mile range and a 10-15 min charge time, I have no interest and that includes the EV cars. The cars should be getting 1,000 mile ranges and maybe a half hour to hour charge time.
I'm not a motorcycle person, I've never ridden, and although I've thought about it, the urge has never been strong enough to do anything about it.... But man... THIS thing is attractive!
Hi Allan, I am actually looking at the LiveWire One and Energica Eva Ribelle for my first bike. Since there is "rain mode" and "eco", and also custom modes that we can choose, the bikes can be made beginner friendly. We can then change the settings as we build experience. Considering we don't have to worry about shifting/clutch work plus custom modes... I think these could be a first bike!
I had people cut me up on a V-Twin fitted with an open carbon "silencer" folk don't hear noise from behind, especially in modern cars with their soundproofing and big stereos. Best to just ride defensively and assume they haven't seen you. Not died yet
Harley/Livewire should absolutely hire METROPOLIS RECORDS to promote, Harley needs to promote Livewire at every dealership or LIVEWIRE dies⚡Semper Fi, my 2 cents
Look at the torque multiplication factor You aren't in the hot mode either 86 ft/lbs X the gear reduction. Sport Mode isn't even close to Max mode. Livewire 279/500 first strike owner.
Still not the bike for me, I think the upcoming Damon Hypersport will change a lot of minds about electric bikes. Assuming they can nail down good service coverage within the US.
How used would it need to be y'all think to get down to about $10K. I don't mind buying used bikes, you find allot of barely used ones, owned by people with money. Those types can afford to take care of things. They also appreciate cash. Don't negotiate over the phone, get there look decent, don't bring any wheels off friends. Test drive, then show them the money. You can some incredible deals.
The rumor is that Harley was having a hard time selling the bike to their established customer base, who were die hard petrol enthusiasts - although most of us that own them are still in their target demographic. Looking at LiveWire's marketing efforts, they are trying to appeal to a younger customer demographic. Makes sense, but sucks that they lost the Harley branding, even though the bikes are still being made in the same harley factories.
You've talked before about EV infrastructure being something that prevents more people from adopting. Specifically you really need to either have a workplace where you can charge or own a home, but this might actually be useful for people in an apartment. Park it on the patio and charge instead of having to drag a cord out to a parking spot. Heck my old man Kept his Harley in the living room when he got it because he didn't have another parking spot. Sure it only works for people on the first floor, but might be an option for some where an EV car wouldn't be.
Sorry but this level of motorcycle already has well established EV Infrastructure. The main method charging is just Level 2 AC Charger which is very abundant but slow. DC Fast Charger Level 3 is very uncommon on Motorcycles currently and also few charging station exist. Soo no there is no Charging infrastructure problem with this Lower level of Motorcycle.
@@Neojhun The point is if you don't have a garage to park your car in its a bitch to charge it because you can't run 20+ft of extension cord to plug it in. With a bike it fits more places easily. Unless you only charge at public chargers but at that point you may as well just buy a gas car. Level has nothing to do with it. It's the space to put the appliance that I was commenting on. Hence the park your electric motorcycle on the patio and charge from the apartment etc.
Question, are the charging stations powered by what type of grid? Is the grid from solar farms only, wind farm only, a natural gas powered power plant?
I totally thought you were just being a jerk splitting the lanes like that but im glad you said its legal out in California. Differences in being on the opposite side of the country I suppose!
Best part of living in California. Motorcycles are literal time machines here in LA with all the traffic. I could never go back to the midwest where people act like you insulted their mother if you skip ahead of traffic.
I don’t ride bikes cos I’m too scared - and the video of the freeway makes me think I’m making the right decision! Looks very exposed… But it does seem the ideal transport solution in a city. Does it have regen? Ie can you do “one-pedal” driving?
Not that we call it one pedal driving, but yes you can use regen braking to slow down the bike when you release the throttle. It's quite effective and is fun to ride. It can be a scary experience, especially at first, however riding a motorcycle is one of the most freeing experiences!
Finally, concrete proof that a HD badge costs $10k. Really, go look at all HD, subtract 10k, and you'll see they become price competitive with every other brand...

this looks like it may be a great commuter bike.. are there saddlebags that you can get with/for it?
Unfortunately there aren't any official ones at the moment, but companies are always in product development. I took some luggage racks off a Pan America and installed them on my LiveWire, so now I can use the hard or soft cases.

Sold. I will absolutely be getting one.
Livewire ONE 😃😆😅🤣😂😉
Great vid ... The quality is amazing...it was so good I couldn't finish watching it
Why would anyone want a motorcycle that is quiet?? Louder the better and safer
Everyone rides for different reasons. I actually prefer the silence
These bike reviews are awesome. Keep it up.
Re the split blinker switch,
BMW had it in the early to mid 2000's until their customers complained enough for them to put normal ones on.
It's a terrible system.
22k is still exorbitant. With more competition will come a lower price. I'd want more lights since its so quiet. Why not see me better? I rode this last week and it's nice despite having a '21 Streetbob. What about bag amd windshield options too? And please- easy on the jerky head movements! Thanks for the video.
Hi Mr. Matt
Not having the vibrations over a long ride alone make this awesome. How long does it take to charge to 80%?
40 - 45 mins on DC fast charge (level 3)
Seat height? How tall are you and can you flat foot it? Thanks.
The 146 miles of range are city miles. highway miles are less 99 miles, just like in a gas vehicle.
If these gas prices keep going up I might have to get one.
Harley guys certainly aren't going to like this. After all it ruins their ability to be truly obnoxious.
Yay!
fu
So nice no more overheating
Thanks for this very enjoyable review. I felt like I was riding it myself.
Hey so I was thinking of buying a bike when I'm 18 and think I want an electric one. Would you recommend this one??
Yep! The torque and power can be adjusted in the menu settings, so you can ease yourself into the power as you gain more experience.
I wonder if there's an app so you can get the Harley sound out of this bicycle
The power is . . . delightful.
According to their spec site level 1 and level 2 charging speeds are the same. Are you experiencing different?
Yes, although the bike can accept level 2 charging, it drops the amps down considerably to a level 1 rate.
Heavy, not that fast, short range. I guess its a cool toy for people in LA or Paris, but not for most.
why cant we generate power while the bike is running 🤔 using the already rotating wheels to generate energy
I also believe in the flood of ELECTRONS .... I NEED the LiveWire ONE NOW .... after all these BMWs, HONDAs and the other smelling combustion engines .... LiveWire ONE is really MY Future .... it's NATURE PURE 😁
12:24 even when you stop riding, the bike still wanna keep you stimulated ~ lol
Custom mirrors.. I heard that. And that can be a game changer. I am drooling over this bike. I'm going to have to knock over a newsstand. That is a little pricy. Wow! I am going to have to swing it. It is too sweet. I think I have to do it. The center of gravity is visible when you see it ridden. It looks stuck to the ground. Or on rails. 🤤
Does it have mounting for a box?
Not officially, although there are a few owners in the community that have made their own solutions.
UGH - lane filtering jealousy
Get the pinlock for that helmet, never experience fogging again
Just ordered mine!
Imagine, the future with Hell's Angels, and Bandidos riding electric motorcycles.......the future is indeed a scary place.
Fun fact: While the Venn diagram of the people who want Harley Davidsons and the people who want an electric motorcycle has no overlap, there’s a surprisingly substantial overlap between the Harley Davidson market and the vibrating butt plug market.
Hella good effort. Ninja.
Can’t wait for their electric flat-trackers, too.
Great video, answered all my questions except for "why do motorcyclists think they don't have to wait behind other cars waiting for a light to change?" D-Bag move
lane splitting is legal in some states
Test rode the LiveWire. It was okay. Found it too heavy for my taste. Prefer my Zero DSR. More range, easier to charge, less cost. Zero as a company has had more time to refine EV bikes as well.
I went from the DSR to the Livewire. Slower charging on the Zero is one of the main reasons I switched over to the LiveWire
22K is not cheap. That is not entry level price.
I rode a demo model and bought one later that week. I love everything about the Livewire. Go on a demo ride.
The question is, Will Matt go electric to replace the Vespa???
A motorcycle is no replacement for a Vespa. EV or otherwise. If Vespa made an electric model with the power equivalent of my 300, I’d switch right away
Yep, people hate on scooters too much... they should try them.
@@TheSmokingTire have you looked at the super73 or other scooter styled E-bikes?
@@TheSmokingTire BMW makes an electric scooter, might be worth a look :D
Fact: Electric bikes will only ever be city commuter bikes until they increase the range to 250 miles of highway riding (with a 30 minute or less charge time).
-
And that day can't come soon enough. I own a Zero SR, and in the city, damm - it's the shit. But it can only go 70 miles at 70mph. Which means I don't ever take it out of the city. Which is a shame. Someday, hopefully soon, batteries will 2x or 3x their capacity (in a given size)....
-
In the meantime, I really wish Livewire and Zero et al, would start building bikes FOR the city experience.
Just thinking about the Honda ads for the smooth 6 cylinder goldwing. You know, the one balancing a coin on it? Not the smoothed anymore 💁
I stopped watching at "they took the Harley Davidson logo off and now it's $10K cheaper"
I'm not a motorcycle person, I've never ridden, and although I've thought about it, the urge has never been strong enough to do anything about it.... But man... THIS thing is attractive!
Level 2 charging time is identical to Level 1… so overnight charging for both.
doing a zipper maneuver when there is no traffic is illegal
The lack of a loud exhaust noise definitely won’t help compensate for any rider’s ED.
I did enjoy Matt talking about his butt vibrations.
im heart broken its not a Harley anymore
Is it too powerful to be a first bike?
Hi Allan, I am actually looking at the LiveWire One and Energica Eva Ribelle for my first bike. Since there is "rain mode" and "eco", and also custom modes that we can choose, the bikes can be made beginner friendly. We can then change the settings as we build experience. Considering we don't have to worry about shifting/clutch work plus custom modes... I think these could be a first bike!
Time to install your pinlock visor to your helmet Matt. lol
I have to say, it looks like, and sounds like, a bit of a punishing ride.
I'm curious if the lack of sound will result in more cars coming over on you.
I had people cut me up on a V-Twin fitted with an open carbon "silencer"
folk don't hear noise from behind, especially in modern cars with their soundproofing and big stereos.
Dumb bikes for 22k I don’t see the value for that price point.
Impossible not to root for this guy... 👍🏾💪🏾
Somehow in Canada this bike is $37k CDN. Bonkers.
Still not the bike for me, I think the upcoming Damon Hypersport will change a lot of minds about electric bikes. Assuming they can nail down good service coverage within the US.
Exactly my thoughts. Much better vehicle for 3k more
If only the CCS was op in the 20kW.
10 is just not really a touring stop chargetime.
Lookin thick on that little bike, no wonder it’s burning up the range.
Yep Matt is buying one!
Electric motorcycle good but what happend your going straight and car making left turn doesnt gears you coming??
Did not sell. Leads to Price drop In order to sell more. Now higher numbers cannot be built due to chip shortage?
The roads in LA man. What a state
Why did Harley spring this part of their company off? I can guess some reasons, but you know for sure?
The rumor is that Harley was having a hard time selling the bike to their established customer base, who were die hard petrol enthusiasts - although most of us that own them are still in their target demographic. Looking at LiveWire's marketing efforts, they are trying to appeal to a younger customer demographic. Makes sense, but sucks that they lost the Harley branding, even though the bikes are still being made in the same harley factories.
Haven't heard Spike's name since Car Matchmaker stopped airing. That was a great show...
Spikes car radio is a fun podcast if you like podcasts
@@Neojhun It wasn't a lvl2 vs lvl3 discussion. It was more of a where the heck do you plug it in at unless you own a home discussion.
@@mattriggs301 WTF that is Massively WRONG! You do not need to own a home to charge with Level 2.
@@Neojhun but charging takes forever! It's not convenient at all.
Question, are the charging stations powered by what type of grid? Is the grid from solar farms only, wind farm only, a natural gas powered power plant?
Depends on where you live... WA state, for example, gets most of their power via hydro (dams)... very green...
2:00 to skip advert...
Like an e-bike, but much faster and much more expensive!
Even $10k less nets a horribly designed bike, like the new Sportster with 1.5" of suspension travel, WTF.
@@truantray um, what's wrong with the livewire in terms of design? (Short of tiny one passenger seat, no storage, etc)...
