I replaced my 2015 Corolla fuel pump with a cheap ebay one thinking I needed a new pump, after 2k miles my car wouldn't start and AAA towed my car to my house. I replaced with the old original one and it work like a charm. My problem was the purge valve. My car was having trouble starting after filling it up with gas and check engine light was on. Hi William - great video. I have a question which I am almost certain the answer is yes. Does the new fuel pump assembly come with the filter and strainer bag already part of the whole assembly? Also, do you remember which brand pump you bought? I put an aftermarket one in my Corolla and wish I spent the money on a better OEM brand.
Hey quick question William I have a 2006 Toyota Corolla and my car has trouble starting up sometimes espcially in the cold. But once it starts it runs good. I wasn't sure if its the fuel pump or the starter. You know anything about this if you do can you let me know?
It could very well be either of those things. Typically with the starter, you will hear a constant clicking sound when you try to start the car. I'm not the best at diagnoses but if you know what's wrong I can definitely help walk you through it. If you're still having the problem. Sorry for the late reply

Hi.my Corolla is a 06.its turns on but after a couple of miles running it dies.then it will not run until 15-20 minutes and disconnect connect again the batt.i'd been told it's bad fuel pump.do you think the same? Mine has 151k miles
Always start with the simple stuff, check the fuses and relays if those are fine, remove the seat and turn the key ignition on and listen for a humming noise coming from the fuel pump, if there is no sound, it means the fuel pump took a shit on you.
If you suspect bad fuel pump spray some starting fluid into the air intake. If it does start than your problem is fuel related, if it doesn't start it has a different problem. Also don't over spray the intake with starting fluid only do max three sprays, if it doesn't start the problem lies somewhere else. Also if it's fuel related it could be a a pump but it could also be wiring problem. You have to check fuel pressure also
I hope this video helped y'all. if any of you can help me out and return by subscribing to my channel I'd greatly appreciate it need 700 more subscribers in order to monetize my account and post more videos like this in the future please and thank you

I have a 02' Corolla (E12 E120) and I can't find a fuel filter sold alone in auto parts websites And the maintenance duties does not talk about changing the fuel filter I don't want to change the whole pump system, because it works great on my car, but just the filter, I ride with E85 ethanol on this car. (Corolla 02', 3ZZ-FE motor)
Sorry for the late reply. I'm not sure if you can or can't change the filter part individually. For my car, (2005) the filter came attached to the pump so I had to buy the entire assembly... as opposed to just buying and replacing the filter. It may be different for your make and model.
this is correct however I needed the whole assembly in my situation. all in all you'll still save a whole lot in labor from doing it yourself. hope this video helped and if you can help me out and return by subscribing my channel so I can monetize my account I would greatly appreciate it thank you
@Medaka I feel that lol TBH, the Fuel pump in my car was on there pretty tight as well. I had to fool with it for a good 20 minutes before I recorded that part of the video. I guess I gave a false sense of simplicity due to recording only after I loosened it up. A lot mechanics and auto shops have a specific tool That's used to unscrew that fuel pump face plate plate but I don't have that tool so the plywood ended up working for me. if youre still having difficulties trying to get the ring to come, then try hitting the piece of wood ( or whatever you choose for leverage) on every notch all the way around the ring to loosen it Up equally around the rif that doesn't work. You might have to give in and go to the shop to have them open it for you. With that special tool, best of luck! If you have any other questions, feel free to ask?
@@pachecowt yeah I was doing this at work just to see what condition mine was in and if I needed to service it. But I ended up spilling some fuel and putting it back together. I do have one question, little off topic though. I recently straight piped my corolla (same year as yours) and I hammered the cats out. Sounds pretty nice ngl but I am starting to notice black marks on the ground right under the exhaust tip. Would this be a case where if the second o2 sensor is detecting that the catalytic converters are not working properly, thus throwing off the a/f ratio? I look at fuel trims and short is usually in the negatives while the long term trims are more on the lean side (+7 - +10) while driving. Would I need to replace cats to fix the black stuff on the ground? (i also removed that charcoal filter in the airbox right above the engine air filter).
@Medaka Black deposits in the exhaust system are caused by carbon from unburned fuel which I'm sure you already know. A very small amount of this is normal, as no system is 100% efficient. Heavy soot however indicates a rich condition or misfiring. This could also cause premature failure of your catalytic converter and O2 sensors. so in short, yes i think the o2 sensor is detecting that the catalilytic converter aren't working properly. not sure exactly what to do to fix the black soot but your assumption about replacing the cats would be my first thought too. If check engine light is on on your dashboard, the problem could be pinpointed by plugging in a diagnosis reader into your cars computer and finding the code that's at fault. I know auto zone in my area does those checks for free. just drive there and tell them your check engine light is on and you want to plug into the computer with their reader to see what code pops up and then you'll be able to identify the part that's causing the problem. like if your catalytic converter is malfunctioning you'd see a P0420 code that means your catalytic converters efficiency is below the threshold or non existent. once you narrow it down you can get a better idea on what you need to do to fix it. I haven't done any straight piping and not too familiar with the job you did in particular but based on my general knowledge of my Corolla and the research I've done when performing maintenance that's all the info i can provide for you! hope it helps 🙏
Thanks, for the tips, One question, is the fuel filter part of the pump? I cannot find it inline between the pump and the fuel injector rail. Thanks, Ed

That whole assembly has 4 main components: the fuel strainer (mentioned in the previous comment) which looks like a sock; the fuel filter (which you can buy & replace separately); the fuel lever sender mechanism; the fuel pump (which you can buy and replace separately). This video should have identified that the fuel pump is actually only one part of the whole assembly he swapped out. It makes sense to replace the whole lot but Toyota genuine is stupid-expensive. A Bosch pump is 1/4 the price and just asgoid as Denso.

William Pacheco mine has the same amount of miles but on mine it looks like the gas tank is leaking around the the seam, I can only put about ten dollars in gas at a time, everything else leaks out
Lmfao what a joke!! Easily the funniest and most absurd thing I've heard all day 🤣. Dealerships make straight BANK off our negligence. And we're so eager to pay it. Get an understanding of basic mechanics and teach yourself how to fix your car. You'd be surprised how easily doable most jobs are when it comes to maintenance and fixing/replacement of car parts. Interior engine jobs is where I draw the line. But with a little bit of research and how-to video guides, ive been able to fix every problem my car has come across and only cost me what the part costs. Haven't taken my car to the shop in years and as a result I've probably saved tens of thousands of dollars in potential labor costs. 😳
If it hasn't been removed in a long time, it might be on there pretty tight. If you don't have the proper tool to unscrew it, you can use a 2x4 and a hammer to loosen the lid. Dont worry about hitting it too hard, the plastic should be durable enough. Make sure you're going counterclockwise as well. Hope this helps.
thank you I appreciate that. I hope this video helped! if you could help me out and return by subscribing to my channel so I can monetize my account I would greatly appreciate it thank you

My lid won’t unscrew. Please help
@@pachecowt haha I used 2x4 and the 2x4 broke while the lid didn’t move at all 😂
@@pachecowt it’s seriously on there right
