    The reason it takes so long to paint the blessed Thousand Sons is to encourage you to listen to audiobooks and lectures while you paint. Any proper Thousand Sons fan should pursue knowledge as much as a fun game or a pretty model. Painting some Horus Heresy tactical Thousand Sons let me listen to my buddy Milton. What a chap, he was.
    "Who kills a man kills a reasonable creature; but he who destroys a good book kills reason itself." - John Milton, Areopagitica

    Poorhammer sent me here lol. Nicely done still trying to make painting the Rubric Marine a fun experience. Hopefully when I get my first box in after I finish practicing with some Chosens from my Eldlitch Omens set, my first batch turns out better than when I was getting back to basics after being away from the hobby for years.

    I literally quit the hobby for about fifteen minutes halfway in to my first scarab occult terminator! Finishing them up now and super proud of it even though they're a bit of a step back in quality over some of my other recent models. This is will be a great guide for when I do my rubrics, I had been trying to shade the terminators with a blue wash which ended up changing the TSons blue to a more pure blue so seeing how the nuln oil does better is really helpful.

    Used this paint scheme for my scarab occult terminators from the combat patrol. Great guide, but if I was to do it again I would base coat in blue instead of gold.

    • @criticalhitwargaming5290
      @criticalhitwargaming5290  27 днів тому +1

      So I tried both methods, and it turned out that starting with gold was faster. The reason for this is that if you start with blue, not only do you have to paint all the gold trim (which takes a long time), you then have to correct all the gold overspills with blue. You then have the trouble of trying to shade and highlight the gold without ruining the blue. The absolute fastest method is to spray gold, paint the blue, blacks and silver and yellow and then shade the entire model with a 1:1 mix of Nuln Oil and Agrax Eartshade.

  • @jacksheppard9754
    @jacksheppard9754 3 роки тому +1

    I find that if I add a bit of medium to the blue it helps it to flow around all the panels a helluva lot easier as all the detailed areas are effectively raised, that really speeds up that bit of the model

    • @criticalhitwargaming5290
      @criticalhitwargaming5290  3 роки тому

      Good idea! I'll give that a go. My paint is usually pretty thinned down as it is, so it'll be interesting to see what difference it makes.

  • @orlandonormandia6776

    Just a heads up if anyone is wondering if there is really is a way to "speedpaint" Thousand Sons. There is one method, but it could be categorized as 'cheating'. If you wish to find out, read on.
    The method is to paint a color scheme that does not require doing detail work, this means paint schemes where a single color covers the majority or the whole of the model. Here are some examples:
    1. Ghosts: this is an easy one. There are quite a few videos on how to paint ghostly models and they don't require too much detail work. It is mostly a layer of green paint of some kind, and some drybrushing. Certain videos go into more depth, with more steps, but the general idea is easy to apply.
    2. Statues: either stone or metal statue, this is another easy scheme that uses a predominant color on the mini and some extra glitter so to speak for depth and effect. I think some white stone statue or copper statue Thousand Sons would look good.
    Remeber, the above only works if you don't mind tabletop level minis. If you want your Thousand Sons to look stellar, then you will have to put in more work as the video has indicated. That being said, don't be discouraged. Take it one at a time and soon enough you will finish your army. :^D

    If you think those take a long time to paint.... Nothing compared to my plague marines 😂😂😂 all those horns and tentacles, guts, teeth, eyes, symbols, nurgle jewels, bells, tongues, faces, skulls.... On each and every model.. and just like thousand sons, bronze trims on every body part, around the legs arms hands feet torso, around the head and neck, around each shoulder pad.... I'd say plague marines take me easily 2-3 times as long as rubric marines do..

    • @criticalhitwargaming5290

      They take a while, but you can limit the palette on Plague Marines to green, bronze, black, pinks and bone colours so you can get through the details without constantly changing paints. All subjective though, for me personally I can do a Plague marine quicker than a Rubric Marine.
