Great review Khoi. Those Wolverines have aged beautifully. I'll be adding a pair from the 1000 mile line to my collection. As you stated, the Iron Rangers are a great alternative due to the durable leather that patinas gracefully.
Nice, I like the cap toe on yours. I got the wolverine artic 1000 also from Nordstrom rack for $240. I normally wear 9 wide but they only came in D width which took alot to break in. After a couple of wears I applied neatsfoot oil which sped up the break in period without changing the color. I haven't used them in the snow with the artic vibram sole because it hasn't snow this year in New York. I love these boots, very masculine!
i like the cap toe over the plain. is the difference w/the arctic the extra rugged vibram sole? this winter hasn't been much of a winter, not that i'm complaining. agreed, they're very masculine and hard wearing.
@@gentwithin yes the artic vibram sole has anti slip properties for icy conditions and is much more hearty , more like a timberland sole. That being said after about 6 hours of continuous wear my feet are screaming to take them off. I have worn them roughly 30 times but not all day, usually for 2-4 hours at a time so I hope after a couple dozen more times they start to feel better for longer wear.
@@activelivingchallenger4298 they have stretched out since applying neatsfoot oil but only so much, still a little snug but manageable. I have a wide E foot and these only come in D width so buyer beware.
I have a pair of the cap toe I walk around in them often to help break them in. I got them last winter so planning to wear them more this season But on size I went a full size down since I have a 10 and they are slightly too big I wear a 10-10.5 usually and got a second pair of 9.5 and now that they’ve stretched a bit they fit nice And I can still wear thicker socks in them without issue
I wear my work boots 5 to 6 days a week. My Timberlines only lasted a year or so. The boot store told me that I was paying for a name and not for quality. They sure didn't tell me that when I bought them. My Doc Martins have lasted for years and so have my Wolverines.
It's funny, I call em' work boots, meanwhile there's an entire fashion aspect surrounding these boots in urban areas. Good looking boots you got there bud.
Great review, I love the look of these boots. Quick question; I live in an area with snow and was wondering if you had any experience with them in the snow, mostly for grip and slip issues. The lugs on the sole don't look super rugged but perhaps plenty adequate. If you have any insight, I would love to hear it. Thanks for all the great info.
thanks man! haven't worn them much in the snow. but have worn them in slick conditions. the lugged sole definitely helps with traction. not the thickest, but certainly adequate
This was Wolverine’s first boot and they come straight out of Rockford Michigan since 1883. I’m living in Michigan now and for 3-5 months out of the year it’s pretty sunny and reliably 60-70 Fahrenheit. Every other time of the year its either raining or snowing in this bitch x) If they’ve been around Rockford for 100+ years I would imagine they hold up to snow pretty well because people around here don’t have time for shitty boots. And one must also remember that the Michigan back country of 1883 was farrr less tame than the semi-urban MI of today. Just bought my pair today so we’ll see how it goes.
I had some custom made Caterpillar boots that lasted 5 years, and I would still be using them, but this last job I had ripped the front of one of my boots on a brake.
@@gentwithin perhaps but probably expensive. Just seems a weird workaround since they have a distributor here. I think I’ll just get Iron Ranger instead.
Sorry you are very wrong on Thorogood being rigged work boots I own two pair both failed in under a year in the exact same way and they are their made in America mock toe boots. I had a third that also failed The hard toe liner they install comes partially loose and jams into your toes being very uncomfortable. None of these were seconds I purchased all three pair at same time because I was offered 50% from manufacturer for being in a union. Reached out to them about these boots and was told no warranty past the one year which all three failed about that time now I do walk a lot but that wasn’t the issue.
Thanks as always for your amicable responses they have really helped me put things in perspective. Today I aspire to have a yellow dress shirt, pink pocket square, Dark brown suit & dark grey trousers with dark brown shoes. whats your view?
hey man, it'd be helpful to see an example of it in order to best assess my thoughts. but based on the colors mentioned, I think the jacket, trousers and shoes will work with any colors. the yellow shirt and pink pocket square, depends on the tones. of course with confidence, anything can be pulled off
I'm new to boots and I'm looking for boots that would last me forever and are very stylish and versatile. I would like a boot I can dress up a little bit but that is still a rugged boot.I don't have a lot of money, and I fear I might end up buying the wrong ones and I wont be able to buy another pair in a while. Would you say this boots fit the bill?? Btw Great review, new sub.
hey man, welcome to the wonderful world of boots. i remember when I was just getting into boots. the best fall footwear there is. the 1000 mile would make for a fantastic first boot. you can dress these up a bit, but to an extent. you'll lose the ruggedness with a more sleek/dressier boot like a Taft Rome, although it's best geared for smart casual outfits. alternatively, I feel like the Thursday Captain boot is a great middle ground between rugged and dressy. and it's a good deal more affordable than the 1000 mile. hope this helps!
1000 miles sounds like a lot but it’s really not, I wear new balance to work, I get about a year out of them, I walk average of 22-25k steps a day around 12-15 miles a day, give or take. So at 12 a day, that’s 60 a week, 240 miles a month, 2,880 miles a year
I v tried both red wing and woverine and can say red wing is 10X better. The quality control with red wing product is better than even way more expensive boots such as Viberg
I cringe lookong at Doc martins. Its like a want to be goth girls boot. Worn my wolverines for 3 years now. Side stitching has come undone. But thorogood is coming out with a midnight series boot im going to switch to. Nothing wrong with the wolverines but i find the thorogoods to look better.
@Patrick J Mims you know, ive never given dr martins a chance. Ive seen rose anvil cut them open and take them apart and the quality was horrible. So i guess i cant say anything until ive worn a pair.
What's up gents, what are your favorite pair of work boots? You can check out my Wolverine 1000 Mile boot alternatives in the description.
My go to is Timberland Moc Toe Boot. Not sure if they still have it.
Timbs are classic work boots! although they've gotten more refined of late.
@@gentwithin That's true. I tried other Timb boots after that , it just didnt work out for me.
Taft dragon or the urban shepherds
@Patrick J Mims I haven't! should I check it out

Nice looking boots. I recently got my first pair of Thursday Captain boots and love them. I will have to look into these boots too. Thanks!!!
Thanks for watching! I also have a pair of Captains, a great value boot and really stylish.
They are probably the most versatile in your list. One of my favorites
Yeah, they're a lot more versatile than people think!
I bought this pair as well. It’s a lot more comfortable than my Red Wing Irish Settler moc.
it's an underrated boot!

It's like you are reading my mind, have been studying brown leather work boots for some time.
Haha, got any brands in mind?
Rocking these now. Great video, buddy!
good stuff!
Define hikes. I do a lot of hiking and never would I wear 1000 miles or Iron Rangers. Very beautiful boot by the way.
Agreed it's a beautiful boot. Hike as in 1-3 miles...nothing too crazy
Oh got cha! Great video by the way. Forgot to mention it.
They have a more hiking oriented version
Definitely not New England hikes 😆
Great to have you back, gonna be getting black soon
great to be back!

How do I go about getting a pair made? I go through (2) pairs of boots a year.
@@treiber671988 I went to steeltoe.com, also redwings makes great boots. Plus you can always get your boots redone if you take care of the leather
Do you know any shop which one deliver wolverine 1000 mile to Europe?
Any advice on how to persuade Wolverine to sell these in my country? Strangely they have an outlet here but only sell the work boots.
What country?

Been looking at the Axel soles for the 1000 miles
perhaps the higgins mill, redwing or even timberland.

close to 2 inches. most boots offer at least 1.5 inches boost. check out Idrese, Taft, Thursday, Wolverine, Thursday, Redwing
Not an insult but if your looking for this as a work boot you will thrash them in a year they are more of a style boot
prob. i'm a fashion guy, so yeah...
