I have the Beckman in Black Cherry and I love them! What's funny is when I purchased them I had no idea at the time that they were about to be discontinued. So glad I got that lucky. It would suck wanting a particular boot with the only recourse perusing ebay for used ones.
Excellent review! I would give the edge to the Featherstone, being a full grain leather
For a long time, it was Red Wing and Wolverine for US made entry level decent boots. Truman came along and smoked both other brands. I own a lot of RWs and a couple of 1000 mile boots. I would only recommend Wolverine if you found them discounted. They are light and comfortable and a good recovery boot to wear when you are breaking in other boots.
I have the same beckmans and I really like them a lot. The 1000 miles I’ve held in my hand at a Nordstrom Rack and I wasn’t impressed so I passed. Same with Alden Indy’s. When I finally got to see them in person, I didn’t like them and passed.
I have the 1000miles, and despite all the hate they get, they are still some of my favourite boots. Also, was lucky and won the CXL lottery with em ;)
Sidenote; Leather soles on 2 years now without replacement, still a ways to go before I'll need a resole.
I also have a pair, and they are extremely comfortable and give me great support as I one slight flat foot, if I do not get good support I am in pain. I also got them on sale which makes it worth it, full price I am not sure. But again, if it fits and works with your feet the. It’s worth every penny.
I have like 15 pairs of red wings and one pair of wolverine 1000 mile… and although I live my rw the Wolverine fits my feet like a glove where my rw is hit or miss … no complaints about my wolverine
The outdoor HDR shots look great 👍🏻
I've never had a pair of Beckmans. I will say this though, my Red Wing Blacksmiths were definitely better boots than my Wolverine 1000 Mile boots. Don't get me wrong, I loved the style of my 1000 mile boots. But as far as function and durability go? The Blacksmiths are IMO a better built boot. The insole especially plays a big part in this for me. The full leather insole in the Blacksmith is much more durable and longer lasting that the insole in the Wolverines. Another thing, although the leather in the 1000 Mile boot was pretty? One of the boots had a very loose grain. This has happened on both my pairs of 1000 Mile boots as well. I've had three pairs of Blacksmiths and I prefer the bump toe and the durability of their leather. Not as glossy but definitely tougher. That's just like my opinion though.
wow love both of those I have 3 pairs of 1000 miles and 3 pairs of Red Wings and they are awesome boots. I don't have a Burgundy or have ever had a Beckman so that combo is very interesting. Thanks for the video!
Thanks for sharing! Glad it was helpful my friend
Color 8 looks so great
I got a pair of 1000 miles first. I loved them. The outsole is not very durable though. I haven't been wearing them because they need a resole. It took much longer to get a pair of Beckmans. They are very hard on the feet, especially compared with the 1000 mile. I don't wear the Beckmans much because of this. Instead I got a pair of blacksmiths. They are much easier on the feet. Hardly any break in at all. I have the blacksmiths in charcoal rough and tough and briar oil slick. If I had the 1000 miles resoled they'd be in that rotation much more than the Beckmans.
I was lucky enough to get a pair of new beckmans a few months ago. I'm very happy with the comfort after break in. I must point out it seems redwing uses a layer of cardboard in the midsole and the heel stack it is not 100% as they suggest. If you watch cobbler videos you will see them pulling it out in every rebuild, it's disappointing but I really love the boots and leather. Does anyone know if there is a legit reason to use the cardboard layers as they do ? Is it just to cut corners or does it serve a technical purpose? Thanks for the review!
It looks like there's a layer of actual leather that the sole is stitched to, and that is bonded to the fiber board. At first I thought the whole midsole was fiber board once I heard they used it
I lack cherry/burgundy!! I'm purchasing a pair of Beckman mostoes in black cherry!
Awesome! This the perfect review which I have been waiting for so long. Ox blood vs Ox blood. But more than thai I like your belt man. Which one is that where can I get it from?
You can get that belt from pigeon tree crafting 😎⚡️⚡️
@@DalesLeatherworks thanks a lot.
I like my 1000 mile boots for comfort, I wear them more often than my Redwings.
I was just looking at both of these on Ebay since neither are available anymore in CO #8… definitely not pulling the trigger in them for the prices people are wanting tho
I honestly like a nice edge finishing but also I like very much red wings rough edge finishing, it feels very much intentional but not at the same time, if you know what I mean. I think it’s cool anyway ❤
Wolverine 1000 Mile has other outsole options. Not just leather.
That’s true, this model is the most traditional to my knowledge though
@@DalesLeatherworksTrue dat but the Cap-Toe Wolverine 1000 Mile with mini lug half soles is super underrated.
Two questions. Which is more comfortable in the end? And, where do you shop for clothes outside of just boots ?
I get most of my clothes from jcrew when they hit the sale rack haha!
Definitely red wing. Leather footbeds.
No comparison, Beckmans are so much better.
I still don't like speed hooks, but Wolver sent me a 20% coupon, so I ordered some brown ones to check out the overall fit and such, but won't be here likely as soon as I'd prefer.
AND the sales tax ate up almost half the savings, so I had to go with Free Ship.
Mostly I plan to compare them to Grant Stone, though, I guess.
I thought you liked leather outsoles. I guess eventually they can have a third ply added when they need replace?
I don't think you talked about the interiors. Cork and foam???
I guess I like the look of the RW a little more in some details but I don't know how much they cost or how they fit, either. Maybe I'll look into it if I don't like these or whatever.
This is a legit comparison. Not the 1000mile vs iron ranger.
Paused the video to say this: As much as I like my 1000miles anyone that has the Redwings knows the Redwings are just built better.
Also rumor has it the Beckman could return.
Absolutely terrible levels of finishing and workmanship. The likes of GS and Parkhurst and caswell are light years ahead.
