    Thanks for this video! I am considering doing some cobbler-ing on my 1000 miles as a DIY project. What thickness/weight veg tan do you recommend for the fiberboard insole replacement to match the original volume of the shoe? I don't want to use super thick insole leather and reduce that as these are already a perfect fit for me at their current volume.

    I own a pair of these. Fantastic boots Like all quality boots, they take a little time to break in. Once they are, though, it's like covering your feet in a coat of armor that only gets more beautiful with time.

    1st they dont have my size. 2nd if they did I can by 4 to 6 pair of wrangler or similar for that price. For what seems like the same material. Jeans I buy from Walmart will allow me to run, jump over fences and atg squats with all the stretches mess I needs.

    Used “Shoe Goo” while in Iraq and Afghanistan. No cobblers hate it when people use stuff like that. Good to know you can still save them after using stuff like that v

    Why do you use gimming instead of cutting a hold fast into the insole? I've seen you use the hold fast method once before but you definitely seem to prefer gimming.
    Not a criticism, just curious about the pros and cons of each.

    Disclaimer: I know nothing of this - I just got my first pair of Wolverines (cap toe).
    I always wonder how much a rework like this costs.
    It looks like many hours of work (beautiful work) and materials.
    I wonder how one justifies the cost of this rework vs. just buying a new pair.

      You’d be surprised. This video went WAY above and beyond a basic resole. I could resole a pair of Wolverines, not counting glue time, in less than an hour, charge $150 (more expensive than most places), and you’d still come out over $200 cheaper having them repaired than new.

    Great work, as always. Is there a way to maintain a good patina on your boots without the leather becoming too dehydrated? I love the way my Thursday Boots are aging and fading in color, but am not sure when to treat them with the conditioner. I don’t want to lose that heavily used look.

      A lot of neutral shoe creams do this. Bick 4 in particular is a product known for not darkening leather at all while still moisturizing. It's also pretty cheap and doesn't have any of the bad stuff like silicone.

    Re the jeans! When I was a kid , Levi's , when you unfolded them they folded themselves back up seriously , had to be washed and broken in but lasted for years , still wearing a pair ! Had em tailored from flares to straight leg , all modern jeans are a pale imitation.....

    I just bought a pair of compote Throgoods. Love the color and fit, but wish they could be changed into a regular toe boot. Not exactly sure what that is called, but can you convert a comp toe into a normal toe or should I just buy another pair of boots??

    Unfortunately I have seen these boots with the heel hollowed out for smuggling, I used to work for UK BORDER AGENCY and our search kit was going mental we found explosive's in both heels , it's a sad world we live in

    Really like how the boots turned out. Then I went and checked on the Revtown jeans and was very disappointed. Seems you can only buy from them if you are the perfect size (32, 34, or 36) waist. Guess what? I'm not, nor are a whole lot of us. So I'm glad that the jeans worked out for you, but I won't be able to recommend them to anyone. Not your fault.

    Love Wolverine 1000 milers, a handsome boot for sure. Ive got two pairs of boots and a pair of sneakers. Not a fan of Revtown though. Their "digital tailor" sizing is way off so I would avoid clearance sales with that brand.

    I will never get Wolverine boots ever again Pure junk. Doing the work I do those boots could not do the job. Timberlands are far better if you go with the PROs.

    Why don't you stitch the midsole around the heel area? It seems to me that a stitched midsole makes a far stronger bond than a nailed one... Thank you.

    Would it have been cheaper if they just bought new boots. No doubt the quality of the boot is better than it would be new, but a dollar is a dollar... I have no clue what these cost new vs what the repair cost.

    Makes you wonder that if a person can afford a very good boot, why one would the wear them down to the point they're literally falling apart as they walk in them. And then spend hundreds of dollars to bring them back to "like new". Embarrassment from friends who rag on him? I don't get it!

    An old guy I used to know, retired Air Force told me about a trick to remove crease lines from his dress shoes. He would take a sock filled with rice and toss it in the microwave for a couple of minutes, and then stuff them in his shoes and leave them overnight. The next day the creases were gone, and the toe was perfectly smooth again like a new pair of shoes. Have you guys ever heard of this. He was from Pensacola, thought it might be a southern thing?
