I was in the USN boot camp 1970 not many women. But we got a cadence caller from Chicago and she decided to "get down" chanting and dance! The rest of us were doing it too!
Then a male drill instructor walked over and really got onto us. He wasn't even our instructor! We could no longer do cadence instead punishments AND we had to learn fancy drills like high school bands that walk in and out of lines etc. We were good!
    But the worst punishment? Shoes!
The morning after our stunt we woke up to find a mountain in the hallway of our shoes with 10 minutes to find ours or go without! our name was written inside but there's 120 shoes!
One girl climbed the stack and tossed shoes, "Jones, Smith, .." we barely made it.
All because we liked to boogey! Glad it's changed in 50 yrs.

My CCs did much the same except they kicked it up a notch: all clothes, shoes, sheets, pillows... everything tossed. Some of the younger recruits were traumatized. I was 29, and started laughing. Got everyone to laugh talking about how those two cranky CCs must have looked like 5 years olds throwing a tantrum. The visuals were hilarious. We got it cleared up faster than they thought and they did not expect to find us laughing.

I'm a USAF veteran, 1974-1978. I was in the first Women's Air Force squad in San Antonio to go through the confidence course, and we had to march in Parade. There were 2 flights of women, each flight was our unit plus our sister flight. So that would be about 90-100 women in each flight. The contest was 48 flights of men and 2 flights of women. We found out that we had won at Parade when our Commander came to the classroom and congratulated us! Then she gave us base liberty that night. It was fun, but the shoes were horrible.
