Interesting. I've always been skeptical about the idea of playing with people remote ever since I saw the Rainn Wilson movie The Rocker, where there's a scene where the band tries to have a video chat practice that doesn't go particularly well (to say the least), and I've never been sure of the latency. I'd always figured the concept would improve one day, especially in wake of the pandemic, and it appears such a thing finally exists.

How the hell were all those streaming jams done during lockdowns?

I'm wondering what this box does more (or should I say less), in terms or latency than any other more common communications systems that you could use to jam togetter, like just plain Whatsapp or Teams or whatever we typiclly use to communicate "live" over the internet (at least voice/sound) these days. For sure, you'll always be stuck with some delay over the public internet, which I'm not sure it is typically low enough to allow well-synced timing. If you have 50ms delay, that is already 1/10 of a beat at 120bpm. Make it 250ms delay, and you're off half a beat... What was the delay you typically experienced?

Question: how many musicians can you add if a user is using ultra low?

What if I wanted to jam with my 3 buddies who would be playing in the same room (guitar, drums and bass) . And I would be remote with keyboards. Would that work ? Maybe have 1 mic to capture their sound in the room

its crazy because sound and light travel at different speed so it like is kinda crazy so far away we can get them to travel at the same speed to get there together

@whatarewedoing8698 Both the optical image and the sound are translated into data packages which then get transmitted electromagnetically (be it through electrical wires, electromagnetic waves (e.g wifi) or optical waves (fiber)). All of these allow near-speed-of-light speeds. If the sound was to be transported through pressure waves in air, that would surely be waaaay slower (300m/sec vs 300000km/sec... a factor 1000000 difference). Though, the end-to-end delay in "live" electronic communication is not just related to distance, but even more dependant on the additional processing speed/delay from IP Routers and Switches...).

Is the latency bounded by the network performance of the internet? If you've got a ton of hops and are trying to drum with somone in China that's not happening
