It's funny how the youtube algorithm works. I've been trying to find a quick-thing for vlogging and brainstorming how my video should be, and after watching some random ones, this was by far the most entertaining and easy to follow. Thank you so much, Kevin.
So here is the thing: you are a wonderfully funny and calming presenter. It's so nice to watch a video that isn't all a million cuts and b-roll laden with unnecessary tension. Just good, solid content. Thanks!
WOWWWWWWW STORY TELLING IS REALLY SOMETHING THAT I WANT TO DO BUT I DON'T KNOW WHERE AND HOW TO START! AFTER WATCHING THIS I INSTANTLY GOT A BIG IDEA FOR THE ART VLOG IM GOING TO MAKE!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!
This video is so underrated! Just watched a couple of bigger UA-camrs and didn’t feel like I learned anything. And here I am rewatching this vid so I can take notes. Thank you!
HEY Bro! thanks for making this video. This was my guide for creating an animation story and it helped me a lot for making a more interesting story. for that. I thank you.
This deserves so many more viewers. Shocked to see the sub count. Thought this was a huge channel. Started my channel, did a travel vlog. This is perfect for weekly vlogging 🙌🏼🙌🏼🔥 Thank you buddy
This was unusually calming to watch. I remember hearing about Dan Harmon's story circle awhile back but this is the first time I've connected that to vlogging. This is a more complex structure than "3 acts" but I think the additional scaffolding will actually make it easier to structure vlog stories in the future. Thanks!
Omg I think this actually helped me more than any other storytelling video I’ve seen so far 😅 I really wanted to improve my vlogs but it just wouldn’t click how I could make my art life “interesting” with conflict. Thank you so much!
WOW you explained the cycle contextualised in our ordinary days. A great lesson from this video: no matter your job and your daily routine, you can always find something challenging for your audience. Please keep up the good videos: you’ve got a new subscriber (and yes: the bell is waiting for your next notification 😉)
The story circle sounds like a useful structure for my videos when I'm foraging wild food and then making something to eat. But it all still seems centered on turbulence, although not as amped up as the hero's journey. I've never thought of my foraging or cooking as problems with conflicts, overcoming challenges, or paying a price. I've just thought - and presented it - as a completely positive thing, like meeting old friends. The story circle seems like it will work well when I find a new wild plant or mushroom, and progress from identification to figuring out how to cook it best (or appreciating it in some other way, if it's not ok to eat). Are there any good story structures for positive stories that don't have conflicts or struggle? Thanks.
I think it works perfect for foraging videos. I think it's important to see this as an outline but not necessarily a template. Stories usually end in only two ways, positive or negative. The thing that decides that is, whether or not the character reaches their goal. For educational based videos, you should focus on what value the knowledge can give the audience. What's the pros and cons of the knowledge and how they can apply it to their lives. Since you are experienced in foraging, it is probably not filled with conflict for you. But let the viewer know what kind of trouble they might run into, since they would be beginners. A process based structure is a good way to teach when it comes to what you are doing. Show or tell the viewer what and where you are going. It's all about the build up to delivering the moral or the story or the value of an educational one. If you watch videos where people just cook by the fire, their videos have no talking but they engage the audience by showing each process, sometimes showing when they put too much or too little of something... Ultimately building up to the tasting of the food. The whole idea of a story is to push the momentum of your narrative. Try to let the viewer think "what's gonna happen" or "what are they doing now...." Hope this helps a bit
So I'm trying to create vlogs centered around me telling the audience the best gold nuggets I got from reading X book (Usually self-help related). I'm trying to figure out how I could go about doing this while creating a problem in said vlog. So I could start off by talking about what I 'NEED' to do that day. Then, I could create a Broll sequence of me 'GOING' outside to do said thing. After that is there my issue arises. I draw a blank to how I could incorporate the search, find, take, return, & change sections. Maybe I could search for the book in the book store, take it, return home, & give my conclusion? hmm... I'd love any insights or ideas you might have!
You could talk about why you picked up that book. Usually the conflicts in vlogs is personal. Tell people how it effects you and how the audience might find value in it too. The book is essentially your answer to a problem or interest you have. Hope that helps!

Great job, as always!!! xo
Thank you! Thank you for watching :)
You're welcome :)
This blew my mind
Thanks for watching!!
I dont understand the you part. Can you give an example?
‘You’ is the main character. Who should the audience focus on?
@@filmmakersformula So just "show" the main Protagonist right?

Filmmaker's Formula indeed it does. Thanks!
This is Casey’s style
YOU
NEED
SEARCH
FIND/FOUND
TAKE
RETURN but changed
I want to see the full vlog about buying milk from Safeway.
NO offense to Casey but I think this vid explains a lot better on how to lay out a story structure
