What is your biggest storytelling problem?

    • @cambylim

My story telling problem seems okay for me but whenever I watch your videos. I’m like man there’s so many wrongs with my edit lol. Kidding aside thank you again Brandon for your help!

Workflow. Especially travel videos. When should I edit? Most of the time, I have all these cool shots and scenes, and what I envisioned at the time may have been forgotten by the time I get to the editing. Which means, I have a whole heap of useless footage. Surely there must be a more fluid way than literally using a pen and paper to write the script as I go along......

My storytelling problem is i want an authentic performance or reactions from non-actors. how am I supposed to master that?

Still not be able to portray real emotions that people should remember like stories. and that's seems like a big problem.

Exactly what you've tackled today. Coming from photography, i have some amazing 'shots' but i havent yet edited or posted anything as they dont tell a story, been suffering from this issue for a while, nice to see some tackle it so comprehensively

2 minutes in and I already love it. I don't know why I never thought about the difference between shot and scene before myself.

This kind of tutorials are so much more important than seeing gear reviews or UA-cam studio builds.
I look forward to seeing more content like this!

Some time you don't need to tell a story, other it will tell by itself like the one you did last week about your trip to this hotel. However most of the time just enjoy the travel videos for whatever it is. See the fpv videos, it's just amazing views with cool music and great editing. Regardless good to see you busy making new videos while you are in your quarantine.

Thanks - love the shot vs scene idea. I'm really struggling to even know where to start when picking up the camera, with so much focus on gimbal moves, cinematic blah blah blah, when it's really about how to start telling a story. This idea really helps, and the reactions shots idea is also priceless.

I don't know how this video got past me but I just saw it. I've been following your work for years and have purchased your gimbal masterclass but this is the video I have gotten the most from. Thank you! I can't wait for things to go back to normal so I can see your art as it is meant to be. It breaks my heart to see your work be paused while you are at the top of your game. Love and respect. Thank you for being you.

I decided to dedicate our first long lockdown to workshops, so I took many.
The Unscripted Film School was way long the best educational content I ever attend.
It modified totally my vision about filmmaking and the Storytelling Area was a real jewel.
Brandon is great filmmaker, but if possible even a greater teacher!
Go for it , you will never regret.

UA-cam would be an even greater platform if more creators would focus on stuff like this instead of gear tests and comparisons. Thanks a million for this video! Going on a one week off-road motorcycle trip tomorrow and want to shoot my first video in 4 years to reactivate my channel. Will try to implement as much as I can from what you said.

Wow, I really liked this video. Storytelling has been heavily neglected due to the popularity of broll videos. These are great tips because now your broll can tell a story. The term cinematic has been heavily misused on this platform and people forget that crazy transitions don’t tell a story. Don’t get me wrong they are cool and trendy, but at the end of the day for me storytelling is more cinematic than just broll with luts.

Awesome video! I'm really wanting to work on this. I have a 1-2 minute collection of shots when I was up in a snowstorm in the mountains, both on the ground and with a drone, but the scene/story is about a 2/10. If I had only watched the first 2 minutes of this video beforehand, it would've been so much more cohesive and meaningful.
