Alexis Kyle We’re happy to hear you’re enjoying it-and YES, we’re absolutely over the top fortunate to meet and chat with so many incredible musicians. The Bad Religion visit was a really special day. Jay And Brian are so kind, cool and accepting, and , obviously just funny as hell. Thanks for watching!!
First choice, greatest punk album, The Clash (first album, '77). Hard to put into words how completely that album captured our sense of frustration, anger, and hopelessness given the state of things then, while simultaneously giving us an idea of how we might rise out of it. It changed my life, and for me it laid the path forward. I know it might be difficult for others to grasp how important this album was for us, considering the widely varied backgrounds, cultures, and ages of punks in the present, but as working class youth in those days, it was an epiphany.
It's interesting to compare the faster stuff (Filler, and so on) to some of their slower things (Stumped, for example) and see how they developed as a band. They released a lot of good songs for lasting a relatively short time (three years or whatever it was).
Listening to these guys lay down their favorite/seminal punk albums but 'How Could Hell Be Any Worse?' changed my life...and them giving props to Frank Turner got me feeling some kinda way after watching this. They were the best show I saw this year.
Such a great, fun interview. These two are deep in the roots of both East and West Coast punk rock. Not much they haven't seen or done. The stories they could tell.
They could do March Of The Pigs or Wish and keep the tempo! (Although Graffin singing "fist fuck" would be hilarious 🤣) A crossover from either direction would be incredible though. A NIN version of something like Chronophobia or The Defense would be great!
@@natewatchman NIN doin just about any song on True North would be right proper...they'd rip No Control def in the wheelhouse. As for BR March o pigs is a good choice, but to predictable...im gonna go with Wish.
damn, those guys really are great friends. And Mike Dimkich obviously has a great influence on Brian. They get along very well and Brian also chooses Mikes guitars - Mike on the other hand truly upped the style of Brian, he looks really good and stylish today, no comparison to the overweight guy in the past
Yaay....Gen X's eponymous album is my all time favorite punk album and The Ruts leave most punk bands spinning in the dust. Kinda surprised on the 5 most influential albums no one mentioned Ramones debut...As I read the question is was not YOUR five most influential but rather THE five most influential. (But I guess it was the records that were the most influential to them) But.they bullseyed the Mt Rushmore. A wee bit surprised that Brian chose the first Discharge e.p. since the second, Fight Back, is much better and is where they REALLY hit their stride. (It's a stone cold monster, kids. Check it out, you'll thank me.) BTW wonderful interview. Thanks!!
OMG, Brian nailed it! I've seen Youth Of Today several times in last couple years, and I just wish Cappo would shut up with the middle-school themed morals to every song. We get it Ray... the lyrics aren't exactly poetry dude, we know exactly what you're singing about
Mine too. Saw them ar warped tour in Orange County in 98. Mosh pit was a dust tornado. We had this joint the size of a giant cigar that everybody was trying to take pictures with us
I love so much that the 80s DC punks all love The Ruts. Such a tiny niche UK punk band at the time but Brian Baker and Henry Rollins tout them as huge 🖤
● Never Mind The Bollox ● London Calling ● Sorry Ma Forgot To Take Out The Trash ● And Out Come The Wolves ○ Songs: ● NY Dolls - Personality Crisis ● Sex Pistols - Holidays In The Sun ● Dead Boys - Sonic Reducer ● Dead Kennedys - Holiday In Cambodia ● Distillers - Hall Of Mirrors
@@stankosick4558 I agree but I respect Green Day. They May not be punk anymore but I have to give them credit because I destroyed my Backstreet Boys CDs after listening to their song Minority at the age of 6
Grew up on classic Punk but somehow heard very little Bad Religion. I like their selection of influences. For me, can't beat SST stuff, like Black Flag and the Minutemen.
1:36 I am an old DC hand. Brian would come to my club and I ran into him on the bus in LA in 2003. The Damned were hugely popular in DC punk and alternative scene. 1978 to 1988. So many requests for them every night.
Fernando Mateo Pretty hard not to laugh out loud whilst operating the camera for that one. Jay and Brian are just fucking hilarious. Incredibly kind and personable gentlemen as well. That’s what punk is all about-thoughtfulness, kindness and ridiculously good music. Thanks for watching!

been a fan of them since true north I was 22, and have most of there records, I'm only missing 3, and I got to see them live last year for the first time in october.
I've got a feeling that purely by virtue of volume and passion Ian took over a lot of statements. Ian always has some shit to say that's, to him at least, incredibly fucking important.
Bitchin' man, One of the quintessential Punk bands for me growing up in the 90s. What a fucking great decade to be alive, AND for music the 90s was. Damn we are all gettin' old.
@@DylanAlexander93 I don't blame him for allowing suffering in this world considering we turned our back on him knowingly even when we had a perfectly harmonious world given to us. What a self righteous view of the world
I can't think of a band that was better at handling lineup changes than BR. Every time a member changed, it was an upgrade. The only real exception would be when Brooks Wackerman left...as he is a world class drummer. I don't mean that as a knock toward Miller, because he is great and was the perfect guy for the job. But Wackerman isn't a normal drummer that you can replace. He was a way, way over qualified for BR.
Sorry Rick...If I could start a religion: Smartassness and not wasting food would be in the bylaws, IDK..Are they cousins? Also, knowing when to retract Smartassness should be added.

This should be a regular feature. Jay and Brian proselytising on whatever the topic of the week is
One of my axioms: "Never take artists too seriously if they take themselves too seriously". These guys are awesome!!
A lot of people do silly/bizarre things, so you (people in general) can't be serious about yourself all the time.
Double Nickels on the Dime
Nevermind the Bollocks
Walk Among Us
Ramones S/T
Bad Brains - Black Dots
Thank you for mentioning Give em enough rope! Most underrated The Clash record! Also Machine Gun Etiquette from The Damned! Damn, I love punk rock!!!!

You should have seen them live back then.
My words, exactly, everything changed after that
Suffer is probably my favorite Punk rock album ever!!!!
It is a timeless classic. I listen to it a lot to this day.
SUFFER changed everything!
It's OK, but I think that they've done better.
Listening to these guys lay down their favorite/seminal punk albums but 'How Could Hell Be Any Worse?' changed my life...and them giving props to Frank Turner got me feeling some kinda way after watching this. They were the best show I saw this year.
FUN FACT: While I watch this on my tablet right now, I am listening to Bad Religion's "You" from Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 on my PlayStation 1
I was alarmed not to see any Ramones albums on their top 5 punk records. Fortunately, they got Joey Ramone on Mount Rushmore of Punk 🤘!!!

Bad Religion was my first concert ever back in 1985. How Could Hell Be Any Worse
As far as the lyrics, yeah
The video editor couldn't even bother to get the right covers for Discharge and Generation X.
Brian looks a lot healthier as he ages. Nice to see, plus I’d put him on the mt. Rushmore list.
They are the Iron Maiden of Punk. I love Bad Religion.

What makes it truly funny is that it is true. It seems like most of the straight edge/ vegan bands do more proselytizing than actually performing.
Awesome stuff! Thanks for the interview.

No mention of the bad brains?! I guess the reggae part excludes them 🤔
I was surprised Brian didn’t mention them, Bad Brains mentored Minor threat

That's because to me they are defined more by their earlier catalog (prior to Recipe for Hate, which I still like, but it's not No Control or Suffer).
