Rip Dimebag, but zakk is one of top three guitarists of our time, Other contenders being Joe Satriani, and Buckthead. with Dimebag they are 4 people that truly mastered the instrument they play and how we hear it as an audience.
Want to tell you what a stand up guy Zack Wylde is - he sent my brother in law who has terminal cancer a care package including his own GUITAR! He cried. He is in an Ozzy tribute band. Really touched his heart. ❤

Lex, Ozzy is singing backup on this song, and yes, the singer / guitarist is a big Sabbath fan. Zakk Wylde has a Sabbath cover band called "Zakk Sabbath". Zakk sings a lot like Ozzy. Zakk was also Ozzy's longtime guitarist.
You can find Zakk covering Sabbath on a pink Hello Kitty guitar here on the old youtube. Watching that guy play that guitar is quite awesome. ua-cam.com/video/rwhvFLHIlBs/v-deo.html
Zak and his Wife Barb sent me one of his Wylde Audio Warhammer guitar's as a gift! I was loosing my ability to play due to a Neurological disease, they heard my story and sent me a guitar!!!
That's awesome dude! 👍 I met him a few hours after an Ozzy concert in the empty parking lot of the arena. They were getting ready to hit the road and he still took some time to chat with us for a few minutes, gave us some guitar picks and a hug. Super nice guy.
The very song that got me interested and introduced to BLS. A rock station had one of those "fights" between groups new "single," where people wold call in and vote for the "winner." BLS won, of course. And I went out a day or two later and bought the CD. Still have it.
You really need to check out in this River by Zakk Wylde. It's a tribute to Dimebag Darrell and the guitar solo is in the style of Dimebag Darrell. When you hear it (if you know his style enough) it almost sounds like dimebag's playing it.
I actually met, hung out, and had some drinks with Zakk! Around '09 or so. I was a manager at a huge sports bar in Denver right across the street from Coors Field. He came in with some of his road crew (and maybe band members) right before I was getting off. After wrapping a few things up I noticed he was going around the bar and looking at all the old pictures we had, mostly of the famous Yankee players. I saw my opening and told him I worked there and could I do anything for him and asked if he liked baseball. Turns out he's a big fan (literally, he's a big dude!) so we got beers and shots and talked baseball for a while. The conversation of course turned to music, and Ozzy, and then more beers and shots! I met LOTS of big name athletes over the years but he was hands down the most interesting famous person I ever met! Very animated and funny, and a close talker 😆!
I love Black Label Society. There are no effects on the guitar riff, that you're referring to. He's using harmonics to get that different 'effect' sound. Essentially he's got his fingers just baaaarely touching the strings at certain sweet spots along the fretboard which cause the notes to ring out and cause this weird discordant sound. The solo he did use a wah pedal on. Also, it sounds like Black Sabbath because he's a huge Sabbath fan (as well as Ozzy doing guest vocals on this track). Zakk played guitar for Ozzy on a few of Ozzy's solo albums.
He is actually playing the harmonics over the pickups by moving his picking hand up and down the string, there is a video on youtube where he demonstrates it. Here is the vid ua-cam.com/video/3boJWhukn-g/v-deo.html he also says they were listening to Black Sabbath before they wrote it, so good ear there :)
Zakk has played for Ozzy for most of the past 30+ years and wrote the material with him. He does have an effect on the guitar, he uses chorus a lot. There is also more than one rhythm guitar track on there, at least two, possibly three that I can hear. A dry track and a wet track with the effect on it. He's been doing that for a long time.
Songs like Fire it up, Suicide Messiah and In this River are what first put BLS on my radar, but it’s songs like Sufferin Overdue, Blackened Waters, Sold my Soul, Funeral Bell and Blessed Hellride that I REALLY love. There’s so many more actually.
I love how Lex lets the music take her first, before analyzing it too much. That's such a great way to experience music. "That felt comfortable" is the first step in really learning to let music make you uncomfortable, and how cool that can be. It's what a lot of metal is about, especially the really extreme stuff. They're going to pummel you relentlessly and you need to learn be comfortable in that maelstrom.
As a huge BLS fan I almost spit out my iced frappacinno when I saw you were reacting to them but then was a little disappointed that it was Stillborn. I don’t dislike the song but there’s so many that I feel like Brad&Lex would appreciate more.
Ozzy Osborne “No More Tears” is my favorite with Zakk on guitar! That solo is perfect! I love this song as well. You were both right though. Zakk tunes his guitar way down, and uses HEAVY distortion, and has his own line of distortion pedals, and Ozzy is singing back up vocals on this song, and he was the singer for Black Sabbath. Good ear both of you.
Lex is so good! Ozzy is on the track providing backup vocals and the lead singer/guitarist Zakk Wylde is/was Ozzy's Guitarist! Plus, he (Zakk Wylde) has another band called Zakk Sabbath in which they cover Sabbath songs
Whaaaaat! The one night I was late, you do Black Lable Society??? So, not fair. 😁 I love this song! 💕BLS has so many great songs. And Zakk is too amazing! I had the biggest crush on h8m as a teen. OMG! When he started playing with OZZY, Whew! 🥰I still adore hi'm to this day. Guitar work is always cool. Great riffs. Please do more. And the best part is ZAKK is a VERY down to Earth, sweetheart!
I still think that BLS masterpiece album is "Hangover Music Vol VI", not a bad song on there plus an epic cover of Whiter Shade of Pale. If you guys want to do another BLS song, try that album.
Lex! I've been watching you guys for so long now and it's so great to see you exposed to so much metal that you start making connections between bands. Not knowing anything about Zakk Wylde you immediately make the Ozzy connection. Just so happens, Zakk was Ozzy's guitar player for a very long time, and the man himself is singing backing vocals on this song. I don't know why but I feel so proud of you haha. Also the main riff isn't an effect, he's playing with harmonics.
Zakk was Ozzys guitar player from 87 to 09, off and on. He is a GOD among men! There is a video on here he sing NIB by Sabbath and plays a HELLO KITTY childs guitar and it's awesome.

About time!!! Thank you!!!! React to more Black Label Society!!! Also throw in some Melvins-Revolve, they brought that hard heavy slow down drop D sound to sludge/grunge.
Zakk is a Jedi Master when it comes to playing guitar. For me, he is an angel sent from heaven to get me through my old age as we have lost so many greats in my lifetime. One of my favorite solo pieces is found in the song "Bridge to Cross". It's the sweet notes that he hits so smoothly that just is so moving. He is simply nothing short of amazing.
Zakk Wylde is one of the greats I’m glad to finally see some BLS. As mentioned already played lead guitar and co wrote with Ozzy for years. The unplugged version of Still Born is amazing.
Grew up with Sabbath, then also owned all Ozzy as they came out and led to getting into BLS when Zakk started his thing. I'm normally mostly a fan of studio stuff, which love all there's too, Zakk is one of my favorite guitarist and the style I first wanted to learn on electric guitar, but some of his lives are pretty good too. The acoustic version of this song is my ALL-TIME favorite. I actually have the acoustic version with lyrics on my channel. Not trying to plug myself but of all the dif acoustic takes the one I found is pure emotion.
I love watching this channels reactions because Lex is a sneaky metal head. She pays attention to the songs she listens to..her picking up on zakks singing style to be similar to Black Sabbath is a golden example. Metal gets 0 appreciation today and it’s so nice to see people giving it a chance and vibing with it. Please keep rockin! Black Label Society is next level! Do funeral bell next please!
Zak is an amazing guitarist! If you get a chance you need to watch him live. I went to one of his concerts at a small venue half way though the concert he started a guitar solo walked into the middle of the crowd shredding the whole time surrounded by fans. I was about ten feet away from him. Oh and by the way he is a master at playing behind his head!
I never really got into BLS, but I don't know why because they do great work. The founder, who is also the singer & lead guitarist, also played guitar for Ozzy. Ozzy kind of plucked him out of nowhere when he was just 19 or 20 years old. His vocal style is very similar to Ozzy which one would suspect as he'd played with Ozzy in his formative years.
Guitarist Zakk Wylde was born Jeffrey Weilandt, and was recruited at age 19 to become Ozzy Osbourne's lead guitarist in 1988, debuting his shredding guitar skills on the Ozzy album 'No rest for the wicked'... he quickly rose to become a guitar hero 🤘🤘 In 1995, he finished recording Ozzy's album 'Ozzmosis' and was offered to join Guns N' Roses... Zakk claimed he spent months waiting for the band members to come back together, only to watch Slash get fired in 1996, followed by the exits of Duff McKagan (bass) and Matt Sorum (drums)... By 1997, Guns N' Roses was in limbo... so he walked and decided to put a new project together. In 1998, Zakk Wylde recorded the first Black Label Society album 'Sonic brew'... it was released in the US in 1999. Zakk played guitar, bass and sang lead... he also played piano on later records. 2nd album 'Stronger than death' was released in 2000, but it was BLS appearing on Ozzy's Ozzfest tour in 2001 that finally brought commercial success; the 3rd album '1919 eternal' in 2002 and 4th album 'The blessed hellride' made an impact... 'Stillborn' was a track off that record w/ Ozzy on backing vocals. Currently BLS has 11 studio albums... and are touring in summer 2022 w/ Anthrax...
YES! Finally some Black Label Society with Zakk Wyle! You have to listen to "Godspeed Hellbound" ... It is the most metal song ever! ... And Zakk Wylde has a Black Sabbath tribute band called "Zakk Sabbath"
Yes read your comments. Zakk is a beast on guitar and started playing guitar for Ozzy at the age of 19 yrs old. Any Black Label Society song is awesome. More Black Label Society.
Zakk Sabbath is a recreation of the first Black Sabbath album, released last year. Zakk, as it says below was Ozzy's lead guitar player, also besides BLS and solo work, he was one of the Generation Axe crew that included Steve Vai, Nino Bettencourt, Tosin Abasi, Yngwie Malmsteen, and Zakk Wylde. I am going to see BLS in Reno this Sunday. :)
Don't sleep on "Fire it up" and yes that's Ozzy doing backing vocals. Zakk has done an entire tribute album of the first Sabbath album, its called "Vertigo", a must listen.
Hey guys what's up! Greetings from South Florida! Of course there's a Black Sabbath influence Zakk Wylde, the guy who started Black Label Society, played guitar with Ozzy for like 35 years. All of Ozzy's guitar players were fantastic! Of course the original and innovator Randy Rhoads. Then we have Jake e Lee. Then the guy recently Gus G, from a band called firewind. And don't forget Brad Gillis, who took over guitar duties for the rest of the tour after Randy Rhoads died. You guys rock! God bless you! Peace!
the main thing he's doing is called a 'pinch harmonic' I believe, it may have another name, i encourage you to youtube the technique, takes a bit of practice but is really fun.
My votes for next BLS songs are "Suicide Messiah" and "Destruction Overdrive." Also, you gotta check out "No More Tears", an Ozzy Osbourne song from when BLS frontman Zakk Wylde was Ozzy's lead guitarist and co-song writer.
Zakk is basically Ozzy's son in Rock n Roll. He played for the legend for awhile and wrote and played guitar for a good amount of Ozzy's best songs, after Randy passed
Zakk Wylde was Ozzy’s guitar player after Randy Rhodes died. Zakk is one of the greatest guitarists check out his videos, he’s a mad lad guitarist. Check out Black Label Society live in Paris “ In This River “ it blows my mind how awesome he is. And in this river is about losing Dime Bag, the two of them were best of friends. I was back stage with Pantera and I got up and turned and like a cement wall I walked right into Zakk. Awesome bunch of guys. God Bless
It reminded you of Sabbath fie two reasons: the lead guitar player/vocalist (Zakk Wylde) played for Ozzy from the late 80s to the late 90s (and off & on since then), and Ozzy was backing vocals on this song.
Lex - the "black sabbath" influences is definite. Also Zakk Wylde (singer/guitarist for Black Label) was Ozzy's guitarist for years (after Randy Rhodes died).
Black label society has a song called Crazy Horse that the O'Keefe music foundation covered. The girl that sings also sung a few tool songs when she was younger. She has an amazing voice plus they are all kids.
What a surprise, just listened to 1919 Eternal album yesterday. Mafia album is a favorite. Zak is Ozzy's ax man. Took the reins after Randy Rhodes passing.
She's digging the vibe and I'm digging her vibe. Ozzy from Black Sabbath did backup vocals because Zakk was his guitarist which makes her even more awesome cause she caught it. I'm not usually into sisters but I think I love her lol.
Yes! Finally some BLS! Lex is on point, as usual. The Genre is called Sludge Metal, that mixes doom with hard core and southern rock. Zakk is a guitar master! He started playing for Ozzy at the age of nineteen. Many hits with this band! From the same album, Stoned and Drunk Funeral Bell and Destruction Overdrive are mandatory! Then you guys can also check his southern rock solo project named Pride and Glory. Keep it up! 🤘🏽
He was Ozzy's guitarist for years Also has his own Black Sabbath cover band Zakk Sabbath. I would love to see you guys do another video on his acoustic version of this song completely different vibe Spoken the wheel is another great song. He has a lot of great acoustic music as well. And you should check out his old band, pride and glory, more of a blues, southern rock vibe. One of my favorite all-time artists.
I love bls in general. But im still thinking that their best album its hangover music vol VI. And its an acustic one. Zacks acustic records are awesome (pride and glory, book of shadows etc)
Good call, lead guitarist/vocalist and principal song writer Zak Wyled was Ozzy’s guitarist and co-writer for many years. Thus the Black Sabbath influence
Yes, there's no effect on the main riff, Zakk is playing pinch harmonics and moving his picking hand directly over the bridge pickup and then off, between the pickups, which is why it sounds like the sound is 'moving'.
Definitely check out Spoke In The Wheel. Someone said just Zakk and the acoustic guitar, which is fine just make sure it’s the album version. The guitar playing is phenomenal and his vocals and lyrics are beautiful!!!
haha... yes Lex.. Ozzy is singing backup vocals on this! Plus Zakk is a huge black sabbath fan. Therefore.. you are correct !
More than that though he was ozzy's guitarist And was mentored on singing by him
Zakk, was not a fan,he was Randy Rhoades replacement and was with Ozzy a long time, check out, your just losing your mind,

@@SwampmasterZ Jake E. Lee was Randy's replacement. Both excellent.

Guitarist Zakk Wylde was born Jeffrey Weilandt, and was recruited at age 19 to become Ozzy Osbourne's lead guitarist in 1988, debuting his shredding guitar skills on the Ozzy album 'No rest for the wicked'... he quickly rose to become a guitar hero 🤘🤘
In 1995, he finished recording Ozzy's album 'Ozzmosis' and was offered to join Guns N' Roses...
The live acoustic version of the song from a radio station interview is.... haunting.
Holy shite! Love it!
Zakk has been Ozzy's guitarist for years and Ozzy is doing backup on this song!
check out the live version of "in this river"
Don't sleep on "Fire it up" and yes that's Ozzy doing backing vocals. Zakk has done an entire tribute album of the first Sabbath album, its called "Vertigo", a must listen.
Lex had all the groove❤ Thank you for giving BLS a chance. This band meant a lot to me in my EARLY 20s
Peace!
Love you guys for playing my favorite band ever !
It's a Flanger he's uses on the guitar with some wah mixed in
the main thing he's doing is called a 'pinch harmonic' I believe, it may have another name, i encourage you to youtube the technique, takes a bit of practice but is really fun.
Fuck yeah!!!!!!!!!
Heart of Gold by BLS is amazing
I love his cover of that song. There's a video of Sons Of Anarchy with the song Heart Of Gold.
SDMF
LEX…you nailed it! When the singer goes high I immediately thought of Ozzy! And yes……allot of early Sabbath on some of the guitar riffs.
My votes for next BLS songs are "Suicide Messiah" and "Destruction Overdrive." Also, you gotta check out "No More Tears", an Ozzy Osbourne song from when BLS frontman Zakk Wylde was Ozzy's lead guitarist and co-song writer.
Destruction overdrive is lit. One of my favourites by them. I wish BLS was as good as they used to be. They aren’t quite as heavy anymore.
Parade of the Dead
Fire it up-black label society
Zakk is basically Ozzy's son in Rock n Roll. He played for the legend for awhile and wrote and played guitar for a good amount of Ozzy's best songs, after Randy passed
That Zakk Wylde signature Les Paul sounds so good.
Lex !!!! You are ON POINT with Black Sabbath \m/
Artificial harmonics on main riff make that sound. Its done with the thumb of your picking hand.
The Prince of Darkness himself, Ozzy, does backup vocals on the chorus. Also, if i recall correctly, Rob Zombie directed the music video.
Keep it up! 🤘🏽
The acoustic versions of this tune are awesome
Love you guys for playing black label society!!
He was Ozzy's guitarist for years
Also has his own Black Sabbath cover band
Zakk Sabbath.
I would love to see you guys do another video on his acoustic version of this song completely different vibe
Spoken the wheel is another great song. He has a lot of great acoustic music as well.
And you should check out his old band, pride and glory, more of a blues, southern rock vibe.
One of my favorite all-time artists.
Zakk and Black Label Society, In This River
It's a must listen with Official video clip
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Great. Song!!!!
I love bls in general. But im still thinking that their best album its hangover music vol VI. And its an acustic one. Zacks acustic records are awesome (pride and glory, book of shadows etc)
Zakk's a local hero for me. He grew up in Jackson, NJ. Right here, in Ocean County.
Good call, lead guitarist/vocalist and principal song writer Zak Wyled was Ozzy’s guitarist and co-writer for many years. Thus the Black Sabbath influence
1919 eternal is a great album
Xakk was ozzys guitarist for many years so there are a lot of ozzy influences
Love that album. Berserkers is my favorite song from that album.
SDMF
Finally.... some real metal all his albums are absolutely great from start to finish. 😊🤘
Zack Wilde wrote the Black Sabbath, ‘No more tears’ album. Wrote, played and recorded the guitars. Probably wrote the entire album.
Pride and Glory is Zakk at his peak. I'd start with "Horse called War."
Good call Lex! Zakk played with Ozzy. He also has a side project called Zakk Sabbath which plays all Black Sabbath songs!
One of the best songs ever
In this river live. Black label society. Probably find it under Zakk Wylde too.
Yes, there's no effect on the main riff, Zakk is playing pinch harmonics and moving his picking hand directly over the bridge pickup and then off, between the pickups, which is why it sounds like the sound is 'moving'.
You're right, Zakk was guitarist for Ozzy back in the day when he was only like 16 or something, and Ozzy is backing vocals on this
just got in to this band they rock , hangover songs great album and the xmas one
The main riff in this song is natural harmonics so it gives it a really cool vibe without using typical chords as usual.
Definitely check out Spoke In The Wheel. Someone said just Zakk and the acoustic guitar, which is fine just make sure it’s the album version. The guitar playing is phenomenal and his vocals and lyrics are beautiful!!!
Front and center preforming Mississippi Queen Zakk Wylde.
Also if no one mentioned it Zack did a tour where he was covering all Black Sabbath songs and it was called Zack Sabbath
