its amazing when preformed live as well. they use a megaphone and the solos were lengthened and the crowd loved every bit of it, idek shit was wylde.... haha.
That's how I have always reffered to some metal as "chunky"... In fact when I'm in the grocery store and I pass by the Campbells Chunky soup...I will do a lil mosh and head bang while mouthing the word "CHUNKY".
He also used to be Ozzy's guitarist may be that's how you heard of him. You have got to check his solo band Pride And Glory. The song Losing Your Mind is so epic and I think you will like it a lot. Kind of bluegrass metal.
Not sure why, but ever since Pride and Glory was mentioned....The band Dangerous Toys popped into my head. Not the same era or sound, but they had a couple solid hits for their time. Scared was probably the most popular. Maybe its because Pride and Glory and Dangerous toys got played on MTVs Hard 90 back in the day.
@@keeponlivin81 yes my favorite part about it was his voice. It is not bad now but it used to be more clear and less "nazaly". Also the song writing was more dynamic I find. Still like his current stuff.
Suicide Messiah, Blessed Hellride, Stillborn, Fire It Up, Crazy Horse, Overlord, Peddlers of Death, Graveyard Disciples, In This River All 🔥🔥🔥 tracks from BLS. I understand the initial aversion to his voice, but it grows on you.
Zakk is an absolute legend in the metal community, having gotten his start on Ozzy's No Rest for the Wicked album in the 1980s. He has been Ozzy's long time guitarist, even having written songs for Ozzy. After Dimebag died, his name floated around as the only logical replacement for Dime if Pantera ever decided to reform (which was unlikely to say the least).
Zakk’s voice is definitely a love it/hate it thing. He has many songs that fit well with his voice but his main attraction is his guitar solos. Try Suicide Messiah, In This River, The Last Goodbye, Genocide Junkies.
BLS is basically every heavy metal cliche known to humankind. The thing is though, I've seen them several times, and they are *awesome* live. Zakk knows what he's doing, he doesn't take himself too seriously, and if he comes across like a slightly goofy one-trick pony with all the poses, he does the trick very very well. See them live if you get the chance - those earth-shattering grooves have to be experienced live to totally get BLS.
You guys should listen to In this River, basically Zakk Wylde's tribute to Dimebag Darrel's passing. Also, Pride & Glory - Machine Gun Man is my favorite of Zakk's southern rock album
Black Label Society songs to listen to: In this River, Suicide messiah, Lost Prayer, Angel of mercy, Fire it up, Funeral bell, Rust, I never dreamed, Trampled down below, Losing your mind, Like a bird, Ain’t no sunshine, A love unreal
Even tho bls isn’t the most mind blowing of bands, they’re still in my top 5 favorites simply cuz of the consistency of how many good songs they have. Have yet to hear a bls song I didn’t thoroughly enjoy
If you want to see Zakk's "comedic side" in song writing, check out his song from Pride & Glory "Hate Your Guts". His voice takes a little getting used to, he's not a singer with a great voice, but his singing matches their style. And you are absolutely correct...they are amazing live. Got to see them touring in support of Judas Priest's Epitaph "final tour".
Zakk’s aggressive vocals vs ballad vocals are different. Check out BLS’ Spoke in the Wheel, or anything off Zakk’s Book of Shadows or Book of Shadows II
If you watch most of BLS's music videos, there is plenty of comedy in there. For Zakk Wylde at his best, check out his solo stuff on the Book of Shadows album.
I love the song and the reaction. I was damn near in tears laughing so hard with you guys! It took a while for me to warm up to his voice, but it just sounds like theatrical Ozzy to me, so I got passed it. The music overpowers it for me, though I'm not sure if I'll ever be able to listen to this one without laughing. You might try "Crazy Horse" or "Godspeed Hellbound" from the same album or "Doomsday Jesus" from an earlier one.
If you guys revisit BLS, "Suicide Messiah" really is the song to go with, definitely their best. Another that I haven't seen mentioned is "Won't Find It Here".
You should listen to "In this river" it is zakk wylde's trbute to dimebag Darrell. They were best friends. Actually BLS has a lot of more melodic songs like spoke in the wheel and acoustic version of stilborn.
There's so many Black Label Society songs that come to mind, Counterfeit God, Fire It Up, Suicide Messiah, Blessed Hellride, Bleed For Me. Solo Zakk Wylde, Sold my Soul, Evil ways, Between Heaven and Hell. Then you got Pride N Glory with Zakk singing, Losing your mind, Horse Called War. There's obviously a lot more, but those come to mind.
Great reaction, guys! Please check out "No Place for Disgrace" by the band Flotsam and Jetsam! It's the title track from their 2nd album released in 1988, and it's about Japanese Samurai warriors. Jason Newsted formed this band before joining Metallica in 1986 after Cliff Burton (bassist) died in a bus accident. Flotsam and Jetsam are still going strong. They just released their 14th album in June. Thanks!
3:28 the part that they’re laughing at is even funnier than they realize-his yarl is enhanced by his cartoonishly signature pinch harmonic squeal 😂not sure if they even noticed that that’s what’s making it sound so weird.
I'm not really into BLS but it seems like you guys would enjoy a few of his mid tempo songs with more subdued vocals like me. My favorites are ones like Funeral Bell, and Been a Long Time.
The best part is that Zakk is not only singing but he is the one playing those nasty riffs and solos. BTW, Ryan mentioned he sounds like Ozzy. Well, Zack was Ozzy's guitar player for a while in the 80's and 90's. He also has a band called Zakk Sabbath as a tribute to Black Sabbath.
My favorite BLS songs are Blessed Hellride, Lost Heaven, and Spoke In The Wheel Blood Is Thicker Than Water In This River Bridge To Cross Blackened Waters Suicide Messiah Fire It Up We Live No More Just Killing Time Rust The Last Goodbye Dead Meadow Stillborn Superterrorizer and Southern Dissolution are all great tracks worth at least one listen. Zakk's previous project, Pride and Glory is also worth checking out.
I think you guys would really dig "Hail The Leaf" by Down. It's got Phil Anselmo of Pantera fame on vocals, Kirk Windstein and Jimmy Bower of Crowbar, and Pepper Keenan of Corrosion Of Conformity. Great job as always though!
They prob wouldn’t do Phil because of his public racial outbursts so I doubt they’d do Down sadly... That being said they should STILL do Pantera for Dime and Vinnie’s sake and before all that bs.

Some great songs, stillborn, crazyhorse, suicide messiah (especially the "Doom Troopin Live") version. Zakk is known for being a goofball with a great sense of humor. He was ozzy's main guitar player for ages so his sound makes sense. He is considered one of the best guitarists around.
Guys nailed it. I’ve seen Zakk live a few times and the shows are always fantastic. He’s a chill laid back dude and the vibe is spot on. He does have versatility as well. Any songs from hangover music and you’ll see a different side.

You guys both nailed it! Zakk is a rad dude and loves to have fun. The evidence is on is Instagram. My first suggestion is In This River live performance. You will see and hear and feel what he is all about. Also if you want that southern sound check Losin’ Your Mind or Machine Gun Man from Pride & Glory. Keep up the rad work! Cheers! \m/
It really depends on the key he's singing in and also if its a ballad or not. You have to check out the single Set You Free off the new album Doom Crew Inc.
My favorite Zakk Wylde songs are on "Pride & Glory" and "Book of Shadows". "Rust" is a great BLS tune, but "Between Heaven & Hell", "Way Beyond Empty", "Road Back Home", "Torn & Tattered" & "Throwing It All Away" from Book of Shadows and "Losin' Your Mind", "Cry Me A River (amazing solo)", "Machine Gun Man" and "Lovin' Woman" from Pride & Glory are timeless.
Zakks voice goes right w the music....has different sounds for different songs...BLS flat out rocks...check out suicide messiah....in this river....and lots of his work w ozzy.....he's one of my favorite guitarists....
BLS has so many great songs. Fire It Up, Suicide Messiah, Born To Lose, phone Smiles and Fake Hellos, 13 Years Of Grief, Ain’t Life Grand. You can’t go wrong with anything from the first two albums.
Great is an understatement for Zakk Wylde. At 17 years old, he was selected to fill the most sought after job in all of Rock & Metal music at the time. He was chosen by Ozzy Osbourne to be his guitarist. Listen to "No More Tears" and you'll quickly see why Zakk is considered a GUITAR GOD.
bls has earnt my loyalty over the years, they have a great catalog now, zakk Wilde is a music fan, and it shines through, he's a bona fide legend in his own right, he's a Heavy Metal SRV with not as good a voice
🦋 You 😄👍 guys are great. Loved this Reaction! Black Label Society is my jam. This song is a banger! Zakk truly makes the sound his own. Such a fast paced song. 🤭 Try playing this on Guitar or Guitar Hero it puts you in overdrive within seconds. 🙌 I love It!💁♀️ You both should give a listen to Black Label Society's : Bored to Tears, Stillborn, Fire It Up, Funeral Bell, & Crazy Horse, these are just a few of the best, as there are 🤷♀️ so many to choose from!😏
Saw this one on Patreon and this reaction is just as good now. I’ve probably watched it three times. Just hilarious all the way through! I totally agree that it felt like the vocals were purposely fun. Speaking of Chris Cornell, you might want to check out his solo performance of “Call Me A Dog” from the Amazon Songbook project. That one or “As Hope and Promise Fade” are just solid acoustic blues-style tracks.
Since you mentioned Ozzy...He did play with Ozzy when he was a young man. He also does Black Sabbath cover shows as a band called Zakk Sabbath and he is great. Check out a video of that! He also toured with Nuno Bettencourt, Tosin Abasi, Steve Vai, and Yngwie Malmsteen as a group called Generation Axe
The first time you hear this band they sound different and you don't know how to take them the more I hear them they became my favorite some songs you wouldn't believe how much soul zack has
Guys please react ti Suicide Messiah (studio version), it has some epic solos in it. Also Zakk looks like a Viking biker who loves joking and messing around
Zakk is a ventriloquist has been the real singer for Ozzy from at least 1999/2000...or Ozzy been lip singing and that dude someone shared on FB the other day that looked like an off duty plumber singing with a family bbq band ... that dude nailed it !
I love Zakk. He is all over the board with his music, an absolute legend on the guitar, spits like a camel in concert and damn funny. You can find some good videos on here. I remember being outside of The Quest in Minneapolis with all of these tough looking guys waiting to get into the venue and Zakk came down the ally and through the line to talk to a local radio station and everyone was like "OMG there he is!" but in hushed tones.
Excellent call, sounding like Ozzy, he started his career with Ozzy. Us fans love his voice, and his range is off the charts. He's also a huge clown who loves having fun and making people laugh. There's so much more for you to check out from Zakk and Black Label. Try "In this River", his tribute to his good friend Dimebag Darrell from Pantera.
It's definitely Chris Cornell meets Ozzy Osborne. Suicide Messiah is BANGER y'all should check out. You should also check out Dreamcrusher or Tonight We Ride by Unleash the Archers. The Tonight We Ride music video is badass.
Have to recommend Zakk’s first solo album “Book of Shadows”. Between Heaven and Hell, Road Back Home, Sold my Soul are all next level bluesy rock stuff. Zakk is no joke. Rumor has it the Hells Angels gave up being his Security because they couldn’t keep up. He also was in the movie Rock Star with Mark Whalberg. I feel like some of the theme of that flick is based on Zakk’s life. He tried out for Ozzie when he was pretty young and in a few months was playing festivals in front of 100,000 people. Kind of insane shift.
I'm not into metal, but if you want to see another side of Zakk, watch his version of Mississippi Queen on acoustic guitar, sitting in with Les Paul and an insane drummer. He shreds an acoustic with a wah pedal added. It's incredible.
Stillborn is a great tune that shows off Zakk's voice quite well. Features Ozzy on vocals as well.
How can you not love Zakks voice lol
Yeah, I was going to recommend Stillborn as well since they're Ozzy fans.
I recommend to react both studio version and acoustic version. They both are awesome in different genres.

It's long overdue!
Suicide messiah or fire it up are 2 great songs by them. They have many more tho. Lol I’ve been requesting this band for a year now
You guys both nailed it!
Zakk's riffs are always so good.... damn
KXM band -songs STARS, scatterbrain, gunfight, burn, war of words, break out, I’ll be ok.
Zakk Wylde has a fantastic metal voice and a top notch Guitarist.
Pride & Glory is a band you DEFINITELY need to get to. Check out the first song on their album. It’s called Losing Your Mind.
Agreed. What a great album…..
“Fire it Up.”
That is all. Keep calm and carry on.
🙌 I love It!💁♀️ You both should give a listen to Black Label Society's : Bored to Tears, Stillborn, Fire It Up, Funeral Bell, & Crazy Horse, these are just a few of the best, as there are 🤷♀️ so many to choose from!😏
Zakk played amazing stuff for Ozzy. Known for his blatant use of harmonics.
Absolutely love his pinch harmonics
Saw this one on Patreon and this reaction is just as good now. I’ve probably watched it three times. Just hilarious all the way through! I totally agree that it felt like the vocals were purposely fun. Speaking of Chris Cornell, you might want to check out his solo performance of “Call Me A Dog” from the Amazon Songbook project. That one or “As Hope and Promise Fade” are just solid acoustic blues-style tracks.
BLACK LABEL SOCIETY!!! Finally yes” in this river” “fire it up” and “Godspeed hell bound”
The first time you hear this band they sound different and you don't know how to take them the more I hear them they became my favorite some songs you wouldn't believe how much soul zack has
Black Label Society - Rust. That song has such beautiful guitar work from zakk, it’s insane!
The reason Zakk rings a bell with you is he used to played with Ozzy.
You mentioned grunge. Zakk was around it being roommates w Shannon Hoon, vocalist of Blind Melon of the Seattle grunge wave.
finally , my favorite band, please go down this rabbit hole .
Agree 100%. Book of Shadows is a beautiful album, cover to cover. Highly recommended.
Dead as Yesterday...
I'm not into metal, but if you want to see another side of Zakk, watch his version of Mississippi Queen on acoustic guitar, sitting in with Les Paul and an insane drummer. He shreds an acoustic with a wah pedal added. It's incredible.
"I don't think this sounds bad"......almost falls over backward in his chair laughing
