Queen is a BAND, not a single person. Queen would not have been Queen, without all four of the guys.

Yes, Brian May's guitar tone has to be the most recognized in all of rock!
That's true, but the rest of the band wouldn't have gotten as far without Freddy. His voice and talent got them to stardom.
@@nancyperkins4527 ...and vice versa because freddie also wouldn‘t be that famous without brian may and roger taylor who gave fred the chance to step in for their former singer tim stafell in the band smile. without the other members of queen freddie wouldn‘t have been that successful too. they‘re all experts and none of them had as much success with their solo stuff as with queen. they were just more than perfect together.

He's not drinking beer. It's honey lemon water to help coat his throat. Freddy's voice was (at least) three octaves and he gave EVERY OUNCE of what he had EVERY performance.

In Queen all members sang. Roger Taylor was a phenomenal vocalist as well as a drummer. As to Freddie’s life, he did struggle with his identity. Things were tougher in the 1970s and 80s for gay folks. Bohemian Rhapsody was pre HIV. But their songs were always epics. Freddie was the consummate showman. I was nerdy as a teen. I had a crush on Brian May, the guitar player. Only saw them live once. But it was so worth it. May I suggest either a really deep cut, the studio version of It’s Late? Or any version of Don’t Stop Me Now?

He wasn’t telling his mom goodbye because he had AIDS. He didn’t even have AIDS when he wrote it. He was telling his mom goodbye in a non literal way because he was telling her he was gay. Telling her the son she thought she has had all these years isn’t who she thought he was. I’m a HUGE Queen fan and I love to learn what their songs mean! They are such a amazing band!!!
He was telling her goodbye because he killed someone and was going to be executed for it.

A little background on the live aid concert: multiple simultaneous concerts held on Saturday 13 July 1985, to raise funds for relief of famine in Ethiopia. The event concerts were held across the world Queen performed in the one held in the UK. an estimated audience of 1.9 billion, in 150 nations, watched the live broadcast, that was close to 40 percent of the world population. Queen stole the show.

got to shout out to the drummers who sing as well, it is very hard to do,with keeping to the drumming beat and tempo itself and the different speed etc to have the singing voice in and notice alot that Roger is not even looking at the drums when hes singing there, alot of the time his eyes are closed as he sings it looks like, he must have awesome muscle memory for knowing exactly where all the drums and cymbals are
Roger has an outstanding voice. Many people don't realize what an important contribution his backup vocals made to Queen's music, being overshadowed by the legend that is Freddie Mercury.

Dude, I graduated in 76. Bohemian rhapsody is NOT goodbye to his mother. Song came out in 74. Aids diagnosis was in 86-87. They were all just great song writers. All have degrees in something other than music. His life was not tragic. I lived through his life. I know.
Aids wasn't even a thing when Bohemian Rhapsody came out. Remember life without Aids in it? I'm right there with you, I never realized I was living in history when I was that age. But this is part of the soundtrack of my high school years and I'm so thankful for all the great music that shaped my taste during my musical "formative years." Lol. Queen has always been at the top of my list!
@@Melly01 aids did not exist. We were worried about legionnaires disease. Aids came out when that god awful 80's pop music was at its peak.

Class of 79. I remember the day I first heard Bohemian Rhapsody. It was at the school bus stop when I was a freshman. I agree completely.
If you really want your heart broken by Freddie watch his very last video. He was suffering so much and in dreadful pain. He had lost so much weight he didn't even look like himself. But he wanted to keep singing until the end so that his bandmates would be financially taken care of when he was gone. The video was a beautiful goodbye to his fans, and though it was written by another member of the band Freddie sang it for all of us from his soul. It is called These Are the Days of Our Lives.

Bohemian was not about his having AIDS. He wrote that long before AIDS was a thing. He may have had some rough times but he was mainly an amazing talent, singer, songwriter, and showman. He had IT. Whatever IT is, he has All if IT.

Freddie was amazing!! Queen still perform but now Adam Lambert performs with them. He does not try to be Freddie cos no-one ever could but he is a great tribute to Freddie in his own way and keeps Queen performing. Def check out the Live Aid performance and watch the film Bohemian Rhapsody for a bit of background
@@liztancock1773 To use the movie as background is not a good idea since there are a number of factual errors in it. Better to watch one of the many documentaries about Queen that are available on youtube, where Brian May and Roger Taylor are the ones telling their story, as it actually was.

Check out Journey's "Stone In Love" (Live 1981: Escape Tour) Steve Perry's vocals are, of course, spectacular in the song, but Neal Schon's guitar solos... PHENOMENAL! Everyone thinks that bohemian Rhapsody is about Freddie Mercury having AIDS but it was written in 1974 long before he was diagnosed. The band never explained what the song was really about which is why people get it wrong. Freddie’s ex-girlfriend Mary has implied that it was about him coming to terms with his sexuality. You should react to Best Friend by Queen it’s about his love for Mary which he still had even after he left her because of his attraction to men. They remained close through out his life and he even left most of his estate to her because he said if things had been different they’d have married and it would have been hers. R.I.P. Freddie was born in Zanzibar, when he was 8 years old he was sent to boarding school in India, he only saw his family once a year, the school was approximately 3,000 miles away, he missed them so, but he learned the piano, and had his first band there. He did have some hard times. He love life, everyone who new him said he was very shy, kind and loving person.
Queen did worldwide tours for decades. They weren’t just a band they were highly educated immensly talented and will be legends forever
So glad you recognized the vocals of drummer Roger Taylor. He does have a awesome voice , and has solo work. The song 'Old Friend" is one he did in memory of Freddie. Very excellent song. Brian May, one with all the hair lol, also has a very good voice and has some solo work. In certain songs of Queen, you will hear both Roger and Brian singing lead vocals.
And Brian still has that hair but it's gray now 😁

The crowd control by Freddie and Queen is incredible, at Live Aid he had the crowd in the palm of his hand and that wasn’t a Queen crowd.

Roger doesn’t just sing and drum , he has his own solo career and catalogue . He is releasing a new solo album in October .
The whole Live Aid show is awesome. The whole performance really gives an idea of how compelling Freddie Mercury was as a performer. Greatest frontman of all time.
Freddie Loved his 1st girlfriend. She let him go but stayed close friends with him till he died. She got the call Freddie died & he gave her all his music. Freddie loved his best friend with all his ❤. Freddie was a Beautiful man.
I've been madly in love with Roger Taylor, the drummer, forever- such an underrated drummer and singer. The entire band is incredibly educated, with advanced degrees, also. He wasn't singing about AIDS in Bohemian Rhapsody, he wasn't sick when that song was written. He went on record several time saying that each person who listened to it could come up with their own meaning.

@@annother3350 All music is better with speakers! I just tried a pair of $2000 heaphones against my Logitech 5.1 speakers. Heaphones sucks! Especially the lower part which sounds like crap on heaphones.

9:57 no, its rare that a band has a Singing Drummer because its one of the hardest things to do, Drumming is a physical thing and singing needs concentration and good position. That's why Roger Taylor should get more acknowledged by everyone and deserves so much more respect. He is a Great Drummer but also an amazing singer. He is the one in the Band that usually does most high notes in their harmonies. If you wanna see him do some great Angelic high notes check out *Queen Live at the Rainbow (1974) - In the Lap of the Gods* (link if you need ua-cam.com/video/xNmrj5nTMOc/v-deo.html ) he had a big vocal range Yea Freddie is definitely a more legendary singer than Rog but Roger complements his voice, pretty good explanation. About Freddie's life, no he didn't have an awful life and suffered everyday or whatever, his life you could say is pretty close to everyone elses, it is painful somedays it is good somedays. Bohemian Rhapsody came out in 1975 and Freddie didn't have and also didn't knew he had aids until 1987, so Bohemian Rhapsody has nothing to do with him telling his mom goodbye, actually no one knows what the song really is about but its not about Freddie actually dying. Somebody to Love is also not a song where he is just talking about ''can I find somebody to love'' its also about questioning life and the existence of god. Freddie did have some lovers in his life but the one he lived with until the end was Jim Hutton who was a nice guy. Some other things, Somebody to Love was Freddie's personal favorite written song and favorite Queen song in general. Another thing is, Freddie was a magical pianist, but he himself didn't think he was really good, but for piano players he isn't just a decent piano player, he is very very good and created some legendary pieces with his skills. He just didn't think much of it.

Roger is exceptional. In most other bands he probably would have been the lead singer. 🙂 There are a few other great singing drummers. Some examples: Phil Collins (solo/Genesis), Don Henley (The Eagles), Karen Carpenter (The Carpenters) , and Levon Helm (The Band).

Somebody to love is ltso a tribute to Aretha Franklin as Freddie loved, she was a big insperation for him. Freddie was daiagnosed with HIV + in -85. And with AIDS in spring -87. He dieth november 24 -91. R.I.P Freddie 👑🎤🙏
Although Jim Hutton was his boyfriend/lover for a long time and they cared for each other deeply, Freddie's one true friend and love who NEVER betrayed him was his ex wife, Mary Austin. He left her the bulk of his estate. He also instructed her where to place his ashes and to NEVER divulge the location. She NEVER has!
Mercury was diagnosed with AIDS in April 1987. Bohemian rhapsody was recorded in august 1975 and has nothing to do with it. As Freddy said, he had 3 or 4 songs and he decided to release them in one song.
Drummer Roger Taylor sings I’m in Love With My Car. Phil Collins is an amazing drummer that sang lead for Genesis before going solo. Check out his live performance of In the Air Tonight.

@@gingerhuff5667 Sadly that movie isn't very accurate. They added number of things that never happened, ignored some really interesting stories that DID happen, and completely distorted the timeline of events leading up to, during and after Live Aid.
Still worth a watch though, and they did a SPECTACULAR job of re-creating their Live Aid performance.
Hi guys, they were fabulous together, when Freddie passed a year later they the group put on a concert in his honour, George Michael done a fabulous job with this song, absolutely nailed it, and all the artists played for free at Wembley Stadium,all proceeds went to the Mercury foundation for aids research,❤❤🎉love and peace ✌🏽

You should really see Queen perform at Live Aid... they went on very early with noone knowing they would be performing and within minutes Freddy had a crowd of thousands that weren't there for them eating out of the palm of his hand. It's concidered one of the top 3 live performances ever.
His first love and called her his wife was Mary Austin, after they broke up, she worked with him and was there at the end...his last love was Jim Hutton...from 1985 until Freddie's death
Rodger (the drummer) had a career as the front man before he was part of Queen. He had an awesome voice and Im glad you noticed and appreciated it!

What kinda of music did you guy's listen to as kids? It's weird you haven't heard most of this kind of music. Our family grew up on classic rock, soul, slow jams, hip hop, disco, eventually rap. It's fun watching you while you discover new music 🎵🎶

And this performance was forty years ago. In the 80’s, I was in my twenties and I wasn’t listening to very much music from the 40’s - although I eventually discovered how much good music there was back then.

yes, but the eagle‘s drummer is nowhere near that good as roger taylor as a drummer. just listen to the much simpler drumming of don henley. many say roger taylor‘s singing voice sounds like rod steward‘s.

Bohemian Rhapsody was written by Freddie back in the early days of Queen..around 1975... he never found out he was HIV full blown until April 87'... he generally had a bad unlucky in Love life, more because of his life.. but he wrote some fantastic pieces of work, as did the other members of the band. If you listen to the official album song, you see them all singing, fantastic harmonising. Roger and Brian sang songs too on their albums by the way.
That voice does sometimes bring chills with just how good that voice was.

Many of his contemporaries who knew him suggested the meanings of Bohemian lyrics.
His parents were great people and religious so it seems it was terribly difficult for him struggling with his sexuality.
Maybe that's part of "Momma,just killed a man" (himself.)
Anyway,he lived a life of passion and brilliance like comet and the world will never be the same!.

I have the wonderful memory of seeing Queen perform in concert in the UK, many, many years ago. Their live performances are awesome.
Movie Bohemian Rhapsody will give you some insight. All members of the group wrote hit songs!

Yeah, the movie is mostly for entertainment. They took a lot of liberties in that storyline. A great in depth documentary is Queen. Days of our lives.

Freddie lived a troubled life, as a gay man who only publicly came out a few years before he died. He also kept his AIDS diagnosis secret until shortly before he died. He was an amazing performer, who had an incredible vocal range. In his later years he experimented with operatic pieces like Barcelona. Watch Queen's performance at Live Aid in 1985 and you will be absolutely blown away by how he owned the entire audience.

Freddie was not diagnosed with AIDS until 1987. Bohemian Rhapsody was released in 1978. The man is saying goodbye to his mama because he killed a man and I am pretty sure it was fictional. Just thought I'd clear that up. I really enjoyed this live version. Thanks for posting
Bohemian Rhapsody, album A Night at the Opera, was released in 1975. Jazz album was released in 1978.

@@RobSquadReactions Phil was a drummer in the rock band Genisis until the singer left the band. Then Phil took over singing along with still playing the drums. Then he went solo for awhile and then he toured with Genisis and solo off and on.

I was lucky enough to be there. I will never forget that show. To this day, I can say it was the best show by far. I still have part of the ticket. Thank you for making feel there all over again. I remember having " ringing' ears for a couple of days after. 😊😊😊
To me, this is the greatest, tightest, cohesive musical performance of all time. I love the Live Aid one but this single song, the band was so on point in every aspect. You actually feel like you are there♥️🙏🏻
The Drummer (Roger) has an amazing voice! As does the entire band. If ya wanna hear another drummer who is incredible as well, check out The Eagles!
These songs were written before Freddie was sick. Somebody to love is how Freddie. He was with a lady named Mary for 5yrs. Earlier in his life. She couldn't share him with anyone, really. But they stayed close and she worked for him. And he left most of his estate to her. He did find a man he loved later.

Bohemian Rhapsody was in 1975 guys. Long long time before he got Aids. This live was 1981 and the song was written before, so I think you may need to rethink your timeline. Freddie was Farouk Bulsara, from a Persian family, came from Zanzibar to England. Went to Art college and met the others. Drummer is Roger Taylor, had his own band, Cross. Hear his ' I'm in love With My Car' , live with Queen.

Freddie was amazingly and uniquely talented and met up with 3 other extraordinarily talented musicians to form Queen. We were blessed to have them as long as we did.
Queen is one of my favorite groups of all time. They are an experience; that's all that can be said. It's a little disappointing that you opted for a live performance rather than the studio recording of this one though; the climax of this song is so much more powerful in the studio version. As for the drummer, Roger Taylor, he doesn't only sing background; for the song "I'm in Love with My Car," Roger actually sang lead vocals. If you want to know Queen's story, watch the movie Bohemian Rhapsody; it's fictionalized quite a bit and changes the timeline of some of the things the band went through, but it's an amazing film about an amazing band. For a good Queen one to react to, check out the official music video of "I Want to Break Free;" pretty good song, and I think you'll find the video . . . interesting.

You should go watch the movie Bohemian Rhapsody. A movie about Freddy and Queen. And Remi Malek was epic in it. He played Freddie so well. He won his first Academy award for his performance. It's a must see.

This coming November the 24th, it will be 30 years since the world lost the genius that was and is Freddie Mercury. There were 2 distinct Freddie's 1) the flamboyant showman 2) the private introverted and very shy one. The chemistry of the four members of Queen when they came together was a special 'kind of MAGIC'.

Freddie went through struggles in life like everyone does, but not in the literal sense of the lyrics (not actually saying goodbye to his mother because he had AIDS - that was 12-13 years before he was diagnosed, and no one knew what AIDS was at that time - but he definitely wrote songs from the heart and sang with feeling, you’re exactly right. No one is entirely sure what Bohemian Rhapsody means, but some have interpreted it as leaving his old self behind (“killing a man”) as he comes to terms with his sexuality and what that could mean for his fate.
He did have struggles with love as well - the often-cited love of his life was Mary Austin, a woman he was with before really coming to terms with his sexuality. They were together for years and even got engaged, but Freddie came clean to her in the late 70s. They remained incredibly close and loving for the rest of his life, but he struggled to find another soul connection like that again, hence what this song was likely about. It was Freddie’s favorite Queen song, which he was embarrassed to admit because he’s the one who wrote it (all four members wrote hit songs). Jim Hutton was his final partner and “husband” (not legal back then, but in practice), so he did eventually find somebody to love - unfortunately that wouldn’t be until a few years after this performance.
This was in 1981, still before anyone was really aware of the AIDS crisis that had already secretly begun. He was diagnosed in 1987 and died in 1991, though he sang right up until the end, even in unimaginable pain. Check out “The Show Must Go On” and listen carefully to the lyrics. He was dying, but his audience didn’t yet know (despite rumors about his worsening health). He could barely stand, and had to sit while singing, but it’s one of his most powerful vocal performances. The video is a compilation of many Queen videos and moments, as he was too sick to film.
As for the drummer’s voice, Roger Taylor and Brian May (the guitar player) both sang and even had solo careers - they sang lead on some songs in each Queen album! John Deacon, the bass player, is the only one who didn’t really sing, but he did play just about every instrument and wrote some legendary bass lines and songs. It was more common back then for sure for all band members to be multitalented and sing, but they were still a rare combination of exceptionally talented and intelligent (they all had university degrees) songwriters and musicians. Freddie was a gifted artist and graphic designer (he designed the Queen logo) and Brian May has a PhD in astrophysics.

We Will Rock You and We Are the Champions (check out their 20-minute set at the music festival Live Aid in 1985 for astounding live versions - it’s constantly voted the best rock performance of all time), Another One Bites the Dust, I Want It All, Crazy Little Thing Called Love (Freddie’s tribute to Elvis, also sung at Live Aid), Under Pressure (recorded with David Bowie - you may recognize John Deacon’s iconic bass line that Vanilla Ice later stole and was sued for), You’re My Best Friend, Don’t Stop Me Now... 21 years together and 15 studio albums produced a lot of hits and hidden gems as well!

Freddie Mercury was not only one of the most talented musicians and singers of our times, he was also a consummate showman. Another movie for y'all to watch is 'Bohemian Rhapsody'. An excellent docu-drama about his life. All the members of Queen were fabulous musicians and singers but Freddie was the best. I was in high school when the song 'Bohemian Rhapsody' was released and it blew everyone's mind. We had NEVER heard anything like it before. His last performance was the first 'Live Aid', a huge concert played by just about every band popular at that time. It was a huge concert to raise awareness & money for AIDS, which was devastating communities around the world. People were dying in huge numbers and no one knew how to fight it. It's been said that after Queen performed at Live Aid none of the other bands wanted to go on after them because they felt they could not meet, or beat, the level of performance that Queen gave. The world lost a true master when Freddie died.
