- Wheelbase is easily the most important thing when is comes to feeling in control on your board. It has a direct effect on everything that makes your skateboard feel the way it does. choosing the right deck and truck combo is a big deal!

This video is super important every skater should watch.
people dont talk about this enough, thanks!
It’s not straight forward these things. So many variables. Wheel base, nose/tail lenght/steepness, truck brand, if it’s forged or hollow. If one finds something one likes it’s almost probably best to just stick with it because chances are you’ll have a hard time finding that perfect storm again if you go into the rabbit hole and get wild with experimenting.
I went from a longer board with a wide wheel base on indies to a 14 inch wheel base and Thunder’s on a PP 242 board. Perfection.
@@Avaddon911 always nice when you find what you like. I’m all over the place but the last board I skated was a Chocolate G096 shape with 14” wheel base and Ventures. But tomorrow I’m planning on heading out to try and skate transition on a Orange Eagle Anti Hero with a 15” wheel base and Ace AF1s 😂.
@@RikRiorik I’m 5’5” so I need the smallest wheel base possible lol
@@Avaddon911 I'm 6'5" so perhaps I'd be better off on that great big eagle!
@@RikRiorik damn yeah man you need a wide wheel base for sure!
Quality content! Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it's the Ace Classics that have the smallest wb and the Ace AF1-s have basically Indy wb which is about couple to 4 mm more than the Classics (the actual wb). I know people use Indy as the standard to make comapirosons, but even Indy is tricky: titanium ones are having way longer wb compared to regular stage 11. And then the leverage. Smaller wb increases leverage. The longer the tail the more leverage again. Then actual height of tail: from ground to tip of the tail. The smaller it is the less space for error. Omg I'm going crazy now.
Yeah madness gets too real I've been going nuts for months.
I believe Ventures have longer wb's than Thunder, dont they?
I had Ace af1 on a deck with a 15" wb.
That was a good combo, they balanced each other out.
But I tend to like it the other way around, deck wb shorter and Truck wb longer.
You can change the wheelbase of any setup by added another washer under your bottom bushing. I just picked up a Element (planet peace) board 8.38, 32.25 with a 14.2 wheelbase and I friggen love it! Bigger board than im used to (8.25 usually). It feels like a huge board but the shorter wheelbase makes it seem small.
You're making your trucks higher..
@@18JR78 No t really. If you tighten your trucks it pulls them together shortening the wheelbase...So the tighter your trucks are the shorter your wheelbase actually is(kinda) lol
I RIDE 3 TRUCK BRANDS NOW. I HAVE TRUCK MADNESS. ACE, VENTURES, INDYS
I rode a lot of mini and vert. I found that longer wheelbase was just better. Rocks, turns, airs all felt better. Oddly it was Plan B that has the longest.
i have an old school reissue with a 15" wb, i love it on mini ramps. shorter wb feel too squirrely
Black Label goes up to 16.5"
Board length is just as important. Those wheelbase holes I noticed depending on brand are sometimes drilled in different positions, either perfectly centered or offset towards the tail or nose.
Yup the offset is usually referred to as fingers of flat and I plays a big role in pop. I usually skate twins so they are less of a factor for me.
Super underrated channel! Hope ur subs go up! Quality content brother
I appreciate that!
i have a bunch of different setups, all either ventures or indys. 8"-8.25" wide, 14-14.25" wb. i noticed i have venture on 14" and 14.175" wb, and indys on 14.175" and 14.25" wb. so i don't have any 14" with indys or any 14.25" with ventures. my true wb is pretty close between all of them, 17.25" - 17.5". i'm 6'3. i have a 7.75" with 13 7/8" wb but haven't set it up yet, i've vowed to not set up any more boards until i break at least 2
It's the struggle and trial and error seems to be the best way to figure out what you want! And a 7.75 is crazy especially with how tall you are!
@@cbass801 it was a deal at zumiez. i bought a deck and got the 7.75" for $20. i used to ride 7.5"-7.6" in the '90s, so it's not foreign. i do like a wider board these days, but i do like 8" boards for tech/flatground
This is good❤❤ thanks bud
bought a "there" board cuz it said the wheelbase was 14... but when it came it wasn't (14 & 1/2) I'm gonna drill new holes in.
Be careful sometimes drilling new holes will make it worse if the mold it was pressed in was designed to be for a 14.5in wb. Might feel weird but worth a try!
did it and it felt GREAT!
Dope video man, lot of interesting info. Keep it up
Ya’ll like like Quasi decks ?
I'm skating a 7.75😅😅
That's a rare size now days! Bet it's really fun!
I compared 5.25 low Venture and 147 Thunder, Venture have longer wheelbase!
🔥
Love this subject thanks. I had 3 bobby worrest twins slicks. It feld different but once used to it loved the pop and strong structure slick made it stiffer and stronger and a bit heavier. Skated it with thunder hollow lights, team hollows and standaard 149 every truck made it feel a bit different for pop flips etc ended up skating the standaards mostly gave me best control and consistenty eventhought it feld not easier. Still confused ;) lighter is easier pop and flick but somehow not better for overal feel an consistenty for me somehow. Now realizing i should have tries my indys instead of getting used to it for a longtime ;)
I skate 7.75 😂
