- Опубліковано 23 жов 2023
- A few weeks ago we took Derek out of his comfort zone and challenged him to land his very first kickflip in 1 hour for $100 dollars! He couldn't do it... so we called in reinforcements! Aaron Kyro joins the party and brings more tips, more tricks, even more bets, and we find out if Derek will finally land his first kickflip ever!

Thankyou guys for getting me into skateboarding! I did NOT land my first in an hour , a month, or even a year but I DID , also lost some weight with al the failed attempts so it’s a win win!!!
That's some serious persistence my friend, I'm happy for you, for losing weight and landing you a kickflip (:
@@LevelUpDaily434 we don’t quit here ! I’m actually currently after the Tre flip I’ve taken longer then 90% of people and I still haven’t landed one, but I won’t quit
@@keapaishere you for sure will one day bro, esp considering your mind is already fixed on the task. That's all it takes 👊 I just landed my first kickflip a few weeks ago, haven't got it rolling yet but I know I'll get it some time lol
I find persistence more impressive than learning the trick quickly.. well done brother
@@reece3163 me too
Love seeing videos with Derek, great energy and is motivated
I love how nice the braille team is with Derek, everyone is genuinely contributing to help him
We love him
@@brailleskateboarding We do too 😁
Just did the best kickflip of my entire life at almost 44 years old. Thanks 👊
That's great!
About 20 years ago, when I was trying to do a kickflip for almost 3 days, one of my older buddies told me “dude, just lift your back leg up” - boom, this opened up my progression to the rest of the flips.
Do you still skate?
@@w.i.p.8154 not as fiercely as before, but it's part of me :)
In che senso solo la gamba posteriore?
Bringing back old school Lance learns to skate vibes. I love it!
"How are you afraid your going to fall your holding onto the wall." Aaron. Derreck immediately lands primo.
Famous last words
I'm surpised we didn't just extend his time. He can do it! give us the satisfaction of watching the make. Derek got this easy
Landed my first kick flip within 10 min of watching this vid. Thanks dudes. Derek is an inspiration for us all
Nice!
Ten minutes!
Ive only landed 3 kickflips but been trying to unlock them for 4 years seeing people learn them so fast is the most impressive thing ever. Great teaching from braille
Hahaha went outside after watching this video and i literally learned it with the advice you gave your friend
@@user-vl8ki1xi3vhe’s been practicing before this but I’m not for sure how long
Yes!!! I love the videos when beginners try to learn new stuff, especially with Derek. Don't give up Derek. You got this! 👊👍
Always love to see the progression of everyone at Braille. It's amazing to watch, and it's also very inspiring for me. It's given me more confidence to try new things and to go after the tricks I want to learn. Because of this, I was able to land my very first boardslide this past weekend!! Keep up the amazing work braille!!
Great to hear!
I love this ! Please keep at it Derek, Would love to see you skate more!
ive also been trying to learn kickflip and seeing derek get so close with that one try was actually super inspiring
Hey braille will you ever do those live skate supports again where you just go to the skatepark and find someone to teach a trick when I was learning tre flips I loved watching the tre flip skate supports
35 years old and decided to get back into skateboarding bcuz of you guys...thanks for the motivation
this was always one of my favorite challenges you do, it is the best when its like a complete beginner
Beautiful work and amazing video
Confidence! I can't imagine trying to learn as an adult. When i was a kid i didn't care about hurting myself 😂 and now im basically made of glass and in too much pain. I'm still confident i will get back there again. I learned most of my tricks on a blank deck on a trampoline to get the flick right first.
Aaron I messaged you on Instagram but you'll probably actually see this. After 3 years I finally landed a kickflip and right when I landed it I heard you say 2 to make it true in my head so I got 2 not in a row but still. My son got scared cuz he was taking a bath and I came inside screaming. My throat hurts from screaming in pure joy. Thank you all so much for what you do without you I never would've got back on a board or landed a kickflip. I helped 2 people today at the skatepark and I think if I didn't watch you guys I might not of helped but they were so happy one kid needed his trucks tightened and wheels loosened the other needed Ollie tips. Anyways thank you thank you thank you! I truly appreciate all of you. Keep being you bruthas.
These videos with Derek are awesome. More please.
Ok!
Sooo close!
I recently did my first kick flip and the best tip I got was to pop it slightly backwards. This helps the board stay under you and not fly forwards as Derek was doing throughout the video. I also think he needs to roll his foot over a bit more to reduce the friction from his shoe. This will also help keep the board underneath while it rotates. I would like to see him try again with those tips in mind.
Derek bro, that make still counts in my book...even though it wasn't a complete land for the full 3 seconds, you still planted both your feet on the grip! That is the first step towards your consistent persistent progression! Rewatch that and see/compare what you're doing differently in those moments!
Also as another observation, don't lean backwards when attempting the trick, even during your practice movements, because your body needs to stay above the board. It will help at least a little for you to keep from pushing the board out from under you, and also KICK THAT FLICK AND EXTEND THAT KNEE Lmao
Love ya Derek and Braille, I'm so flipping hyped for this land!!
Part 3 is definitely happening!
And also all the onscreen graphics/edits had me deceased! Love how awesome the Braille crew is, you all really want him to land that as much as he does!!!
CAN'T WAIT
you got this
LET'S GOOOOO
You were close. Took me about a year, skating everyday, to start really learning flip tricks.
aaron is a great teacher man... inspiring
Just learned Thema today your Videos really helped!
awesome and well done!!
Aarons super smart in skateology, Derek you better get that kickflip brother, I believe in you man!
Do more vids like this. Last time you had Derek doing this it motivated me so much I went out n landed a kickflip the following day. Also landed varial flips bcuz of that last vid. Took a few days of practice but I got it and am still working on making them rolling
Make sure Derek knows his attempts were enough to motivate other people to land a kickflip. Hopefully it'll pass the motivation back to him (: he literally just needs to commit to landing, like AK said, once you fall, you realize you will be okay lol
I _NEED_ to see Derek land a kickflip! Part 3 baby!!!
Broo you had it my man pt3 please
I like Derek cuz he struggles like a real person and is frustrated and nervous(you really feel what it would be like to have minimal skill and have the potential to do more if you just put your foot down so to speak)I appreciate him for being the guinea pig in these video cuz it real helps 👏 oh yeah, I wanna see Derek land it...for him most of all(this is the kinda confidence builder that helps you in all areas of life)don't give up Derek, you git this bro 😎👌 love braille ❤
Gj Derek, you will nailed it next time! Get confy on the board, like Aaron said. Have same battles like you. When i flick fine my lef leg won't land. When i land, it's with 50% rotation..
DEREK!!! Dude you are so close! Practice every day and you've got the kickflip!
You got this Derek! That was so insanely close. I believe in you!
When do we get the flip ons!!!!! Im so ready for my shoes!!!!
I want to see him land it! these have been cool videos to watch.
Aaron Kyro is honestly the best skate teacher ever. He really wants to see EVERYONE progress.
The one big thing that helped me land my first kick flip was basically exactly what he’s saying extending that front leg the guy that helped me told me to do a flying karate hy-yaa! Kick throwing that front foot out like I’m kicking someone. After I focused on that I got it down by the end of the day on flat. Recording yourself helps a lot as well.
Yes! So good
But you have skate trainers stoppers somewhere it will help him so much! Part 3 with skateboard stoppers
Nice and crazy challenge Braille
Let's gooooo . His board goes behind him most of the times has to lean back a bit also shoulders are not strait❤❤❤
The legend of Derek continues!!!
just bend those knees brother!!! you got this!!
7:48 is one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen in Braille history.
Epic
we are in this 2gether. keep it up man
Thanks
Derek inspired me to go and try a few Ollie's after not skating in years. Got at least a foot of air for the first time ever. Land that kickflip
I want part 3
I honestly wanna skate at the braille house so bad, the vibe is so chill
Braille House party next saturday. Come through!
I had this problem until I stopped doing them stationary once I started doing them while I was moving instantly improved
Love it
Somewhere, at the same time, in a different location, Eric Koston is screaming “DO A KICKFLIP!”.
😂😂😂😂😂
This def needs to be a series. I miss the beginning becomes a pro series with Lance
Derek have it 100%. What he could do is learning easiest tricks like really easy tricks, to bring back his confidence
Stanky leg 😂 but seriously though really enjoying this episode! You got this bro!
Been exactly there. He's flicking too early given the amount of pop. Pretty common for people who have ollied for years but never learnt kickflip.
He either needs to pop less or lift his front knee more when popping (which delays the flick till the board is less rocket).
He must land it ! We wanna see it !! Please !!!
You got this Derek!
Of course, we want Derek to succeed.
If you pay attention you are more likely to have a kickflip if you stay on top of the board, and why am I telling you this? Well, that will force you to jump, but you don't necessarily have to jump very high, just enough for it to rotate underneath you. An example of what I said. 5:03 I was going to do it there, but I scrape forward. The scrape is forward. for the height you want and diagonal for the table to rotate.
First let’s goo, I love braille
Derek is a real one
AARON!
Getting the back foot on is so HARD! Front foot every time but it’s trying to keep the board centered under BOTH feet to land took me hours and HOURS. Still not consistent.
skating everyday does help you with landing tricks as a beginner I skate for 15-30 mins a day and can finally land ollies even if their not that high they are leveled out and while moving
comeon D, you got this bud!~
I think he is doing the same thing I do, not expecting to land it so when he does he immediately jumps off, I have been doing the same thing with my Ollies, he has the trick down just needs to get past the fear in his head, I know exactly how he feels!
At this point, it's in the mindset, what was he saying to myself through all that... He needs to encourage himself and I think he's got it
You got it
Did he ever do it in another video or somewhere ?
Let’s gooo Darrick
Part 3
Look at the ease and form of his ollie. I think he looks comfortable. When he goes for a kickflip he switches to thinking he needs so much more power. His tail foot goes back like he's trying to do a ballerina jump. I may be inappropriate in my description and I apologize if anyone is insulted. The head can really get in the way of progress.
i started skateboarding when i was 9 years old, learned how to ollie and nollie lol, then tried learn how to kickflip.. after many months i couldn't do it, been so frustrated that i gave up.. even after getting back into skateboarding in highschool, i still couldn't do it... now in my 20s i'm gonna attempt to do it again and practice as much as i can to get it down...
Follow the bootcamp series it will get you there
it should be how long does it take for him to do it! lol or do a video, series!
Im in
When dude man shouts "DERRICK!" at 12:09 i lost it!
what shoes does the dude with red pants got on?
Videos of Derek progressing gives me hope that I’ll eventually get better.
It’s the back foot , he like scoops it backwards and then over kicks it making it impossible for his back foot to land on it , he would need to jump forward slightly or just kick straight down . Just a thought
Im actually on day 2 of learning how to kickflip myself ❤
So many perfect kicks. You problem Derek is that youre afraid of landing with both feet on it and the board slipping out. I would practice rolling ollies, shuv-it, etc., until comfortable with landing with 2 feet.
I really need help on Ollie’s on skate board
LOL I wasn’t ready for the X’ing out that he didn’t make the team.
The pop then flip has gotten me to complete a heelflip again after years
awesome!
I can't Frontside 180 at all, can once in a blue moon backside 180. But i can 3 shuv, kickflip, heelflip and shuv. Once i landed a varial kickflip but that pretty much concludes my bag of tricks lol
You definitely got it down Derek just keep tryna at it
He's doing what I did and I realized I need to lean more toward the nose to stop the board from going forward when I flicked. He would land it if you gave him that tip. He's leaning too far back and jumping back not up.
You gotta shift your weight over the back foot more! The front leg can't flick and the back leg can't pop if it's compressed by your body!
Add this guy to the team 😂😂
Videos with Derek progressing is somehow very satisfying.
It looks like his foot is catching by the way the board goes forward so I would suggest he sticks his heel out more or flick more at an angle
derek is so close!!! i think he needs to practice up against the wall a few more times to cement that feeling of what its like to land on the board. Use it as training wheels for a solid 10 attempts in a row badabing badaboom take the training wheels off and i betchya he would land it! consistent lands no bails and count that towards the 10 you bail you restart at 0. Just a suggestion.
I wish I had a ramp in my shop. I broke my last one 😅
Definitely should put his front foot back a little more. Not towards his other foot but a little closer to the edge of the board. When I learned my first kickflips I basically had my toes on the edge, helps it flip faster. Then when you get more comfortable you move it farther up the board and it makes em look prettier, like everyone else is doing. Gotta get that first lane tho
I am so close to landing a kickflip but I js can’t land my front foot I’ve tried everything but it js isn’t happening😭🙏
part 3?
🔥🔥
I'm still confirming my Ollie, and FS but I'm so determined to kickflip after seeing this video. I'm 25, started skating again after doing a lot when I was a teen. I got ice on a fractured toe, bruised ribs, and my left knee still bruised after an accident boarding home (caught a bad mini-pothole on a gainer push downhill). If it wasnt for the rain id be out on my board confirming and going for kickflip right now since its flatground. All because of Braille and @purpleclassified7691 getting a featured story. I've watched for a long time and this time my journey will not end. Hope to see you guys around some day. You should hit the Gathering Place in Tulsa. Its like they copy and pasted sections of freemont lol
Excited for your journey
@@brailleskateboarding Much love!
I am still working on my kickflip and everytime i try it goes exactly like this
Join BA+ and I will coach you
I stop trying to do a kick flip due to my board bounced off the floor while in the flip and I came down and cut my jaw open
I’m learning how to skate and I did it 12 try
Let's Go
He should try it switch. His back foot is doing all the kicking.
