Venture Koston V8's? Worth the hype?
Today we look at the Koston v8's from venture trucks! Quick testing to see what kind of changes venture has brought to the table with these new trucks. while staying true to ventures original geometry (mostly), and adding additional wheelbase adjustment options. The Koston V8's are a very interesting offering for sure.

    Thunders are all lower helps with the timing on flip tricks. That may be the issue. If I skate venture it’s the v - lights with forged plates, making them lower by 1 mm on a 14inch wheel base. Still interested to mess with the v8 maybe moving the front truck in and keeping then back standard or vice versa !

      I've thought about trying that also with different kicks and slightly different placement could make some cool combos!

      Maybe aome 53mm wheels would make a difference for you man. Not sure but big ass wheels on venture I’ve been seen fools do. I only skate 53mms but people seem to be riding 54mm and up for street a lot these days.

    Main reason to leave Ventures was that you could not get the bolts off with a skate tool? Acting like helpless consumer? Be a kid for lifetime? This is not real reason for someone to leave their preferred trucks. Just say that your style of popping is too sleepy for Venture Hi-s and that's it.

    • @cbass801
      @cbass801 3 дні тому

      I said it was one of the reasons. Pop felt off, pinch felt worse, turning is worse in my opinion, just to name a couple. Many reasons I just didn't feel the need to explain that in a video talking about a completely separate model of venture. Kids only watch 30 second of a video and form an entire opinion about what went on.

  • @dowbp
    @dowbp 4 дні тому

    Holes are drilled differently in the Forged baseplate (V-Light and V-Hollow) and the Cast Baseplate (the V8 or Raw ventures). Wheelbase is a bit longer with forged baseplate and could explains the tight clearance with the skate tool

    • @cbass801
      @cbass801 3 дні тому

      Someone pointed that out to me, I had no idea there was a diffrence between the bolt layout between baseplates. Good info tho!

    "Venture lo-s are not ventures" is what you're saying in this video. Forced reviews ain't good reviews. You don't need to do a review because "everyone" is doing it or it's "hype".

    • @cbass801
      @cbass801 3 дні тому

      I think you missed the point, I was highlighting the adjustable wheelbase the whole video. I never said they don't feel like ventures in fact I said the opposite right after I set them up. 3:52 All I said was that in my opinion it does not make a 14.25 wb deck skate like a 14 wb, which based on other videos and conversations I read and watched was what people thought it would do. Also never called it a review either, you can't put out a full review on a product with 1 session that's why I call it my first impression at the end...

  • @diplenski
    @diplenski 4 дні тому

    Wow 1/2” + is crazy, I thought they were only 1/8” per truck. Fwiw I just check my old 6-hole thunder plates and the difference between holes is about 10mm(3/8”). So I guess the idea is to leave a thick enough wall between them

    • @cbass801
      @cbass801 4 дні тому

      That's the only thing that made sense to me. Cause marketing said a 1/4 per side, and it ends up being just a hair more the 1/2 when your in the v8 pattern.

  • @diplenski
    @diplenski 4 дні тому

    I have some old 6-hole ventures and thunder, maybe I’ll try to make some 😭 I drilled the ‘new’ holes into some old stage V indys, it turned out fine and was easy enough to do

  • @diplenski
    @diplenski 4 дні тому

    The shorter wb setup should have a quicker snap and lighter pop-feel, I’d think. With the tail being longer behind the back truck, and the front truck being further back

  • @diplenski
    @diplenski 4 дні тому

    I like ventures. This is a neat idea. Indys on 14.25” wb and ventures on 14”wb are basically identical axle to axle. My primary is ventures on 14.25” and I really like it. I also have a 14”wb with Indys, it’s squirrelly but fun, and good for rotational tricks. The difference between those two, axle-to-axle, is about 1/2”

      Ventures are what I grew up skating in the 90s and 2000s then I started skating again in 2020! I got on Indy’s and eventually just fell in love with the stability, feeling safe, I felt like if Mason Silva can skate Indy then so can I mental thing. But then I started purchasing Trucks like the Tensor mag lights “garbage”, the ACE af1s “Fire Turning” but excessive, Indy’s are carvy and strong 💪, Thunders light and pinch 🤏 perfect. But now I’m a Ventures for street, Indy for transition, I skate the Forged Titanium Indy’s and the Standard Team Ventures with the Venture loose bushings. I’m now just accepting the fact I can’t live without both, I set up all my ventures on boards with 14.25-13.75 wheelbase boards only, on Indy’s I ride 14.25-14.5 wheelbase. That’s the thing wheelbase and getting your tail length dialed also. I like 6.5 length tails on ventures and I like 6.6-6.9 in tails on my Indy set ups.

    I've drilled the holes on my Venture low v-hollows, now I can also change the wheelbase and they are a bit lighter. I guess the same will be with any other Ventures because they have a plenty of space on their baseplates.

    Some people are always trying to ice skate uphill. They're called trucks for a reason. You don't buy a 1/2 ton to do real man work, you get a 3/4 ton to handle the extra load and abuse.

    i would really like to see replacement hangers be available. i think most people tend to hit the axle before the base plates are too worn out. i like the idea of replacement kingpins too. if both were available, id probably replace kingpins whenever i wore out a hangar, just for the case that a crack might be developing from normal use (and could be dangerous to leave on the truck that long). i like the inverted thunders a lot, my only issue is they do tend to loosen very gradually as i ride them. if anyone at thunder happens to read this, you guys should totally make a forged baseplate model of the inverted kingpin truck. that would be the ultimate truck in my mind

    Why I don’t skate Thunders. Never have liked them, and I bent an axle really easily on the standard ones. Ollied off a curb going down hill and got murdered, hit my head all because of those Trucks. Indy for life! Or Ventures at least. With the solid kingpins. Indy’s the Hollow Inverted Kingpin trucks came out a while back, but no one is reviewing them. Or testing them! They’re crome the Forged Baseplate Hollows IVK trucks. They also released a standard pair with solid IVK. Before only trucks Indy made were IVK “mids” which are short like 50-52mm the hollow mids are 50mm “Reynolds “ Version and standard ones and the Tiago Version is 52mm high

      I haven't had real issues with it. I also replace my washers and axle nuts frequently. I think as long as the bolts are snug with very little play the axle stays in place better, because I've only really had axle slip issues on indys when I was testing out the foy loose bolt trick.

    i stopped skating thunders because my bushings would never last longer than 2 months i liked the way the trucks skated but that bugged me so much i couldn't bring myself to keep skating them they be perfect but as soon as that first cracked appeared i was just done with them and I'm not a very heavy person what so ever underweight for my age tbh xD nor did i skate tight truck because i don't weigh enough to make that work especially with thunders being less turny/surfy than indys which i love and they also the bushing never failed

    I also with these were available in solid kingpins. I've snapped two or three thunder hollow kingpins, I'm about 180lbs but never skate drops or big stuff, I think each have snapped on small ledge grinds. Each time thunder sent me two spare team baseplates. 10/10 customer service, and I appreciate the extra plate to keep in the car in case another snaps (have yet to snapped a solid kingpin). So now I use hollow axles and team baseplates, but if I had to start from scratch I would just skip hollows entirely.
