It's not just pictures either but in-game folks reacting to it. That's one of the many extra lengths the devs went to make the game as alive and detailed as it is. Makes me think a bit of how in Psychonauts, between levels, characters would be doing and saying different things. Like the kid getting bullied by Bobby seeking out the protection of the Russian boy. And then his implied mafia family upbringing shines through.
He mentioned it in a video about Cartoony Games Coming Out years ago, and it only recently came out. And also he was moving. I bet he really wanted to make a video ASAP right when it came out since he was following the production I think.
0:01 You know what? I never realized how Bludd artstyle is similar to that one general mills cereal commercial that saw it years ago. Man, small world.
Cartoon Network AND Disney Channel could use their websites or apps to livestream their shows since kids aren’t watching cable anymore. Just like old times, they could keep a solid schedule of their current shows with weekly premieres. And if this were a simulcast with cable, they could replace the commercials with newly made bumpers! Nickelodeon is already doing this on their website where it just plays their Pluto TV channel.
They're basically lobotomizing their properties to be exclusive to streaming sites. I think it's actually intentional that they make their library unavailable for part of the time so they can swap them in with other shows.
@@Allanbuzzy >website You mean for Boomerang? That streamer hadn't mattered much since Max launched. It's cable presence hasn't mattered for a long while, especially since Weigel launched MeTV Toons at the end of June.

tbh Cartoon Networks problem atm is it's not greenlighting any cartoons these days. Everyone wanted more and they just... said no. Blud here is a perfect example that people young and old still like them and granted its a tribute-like game, it's still proof they have no idea what they're doing. G:KND had the writers, voice actors and fans all onboard asking CN to greenlight it and they said no for no reason, went all in on TTG and then when ppl got bored of literally 1 show over and over, they couldn't understand what went wrong. Here's a hint CN, nobody likes just 1 show over and over, even if they are a huge fan of it; people like VARIETY!
They don’t want to green-light anything because they just want to make a profit. Even though a lot of these passion projects could definitely make a profit it won’t be as big so therefore not worth it in their eyes. They’d rather not risk it, which sucks for everyone
You can add Cookie Cutter and The Immortal Life of Goldman to that as well. Cookie Cutter came out in 2023 and there's more planned, while TILoG only recently had a trailer released. And I want to give a honorary mention to Rayman Origins and Legends. They do make use of character rigs and not painstakingly hand-drawn frames but they're nonetheless worthy of being mentioned.
Gotta say, considering the recent drama surrounding Adobe's practices as a company, going out of your way to use antiquated versions of animation software to avoid paying a ludicrously expensive subscription fee is based as hell.
This game is just oozing with personality. The amount of effort gone into the selfie mode is insane and the kind of attention to detail I've been missing since Psychonauts.
The game being animated on Macromedia Flash MX on Windows Vista also helps show that animating good quality cartoons in flash with the materials BACK THEN was perfectly doable.
I’m a sucker for games that focus on a beautiful 2d art style, whether it be skull girls or Wario land shake it, and Blud is certainly no exception, got to play demo of it when I went to magfest this year, and it was extremely fun time, can’t wait to try the full game.
Interest in beautiful 2D art style, eh? May i perhaps interest you in the likes of - Cookie Cutter - The Eternal Life of Goldman - Decline's Drops? I'm an especially big Cookie Cutter fan. Released in very late 2023, reception has fortunately been good enough that the lead dev can work on a big update. He hopes to add and refine more and more when support and time allows for it-- for all intents and purposes, it's his proverbial baby. Quite out there tone in a colorful sci-fi/cyberpunk setting which has pushed some away, it did for me initially. But i'm glad i stuck with it and am curious for more.
I have nothing but respect and admiration for the artists and animators on this project, and it absolutely looks great in its own right, and no matter what I say next I want that to be known. That said, if this is *[specifically]* meant to be a love letter to 2000s animation as it seems to be very clearly demonstrated here, I think they missed the mark a bit. In motion, the characters constantly morph and change shape very drastically; there's barely a consistent shape to any of the characters, nor do they have many strong geometric shaping, like the UPA-inspired cartoons of the 2000s had - they were typically much more static and emphasized strong/rigid but dynamic shaping. They would emphasize the shapes and sizes in some scenes (as seen in much of Dexter's Lab, for one example), but they'd otherwise still stick very close to the established character models. Here, they're much more amorphous and almost blobby, which *instead* brings to mind popular 2010s cartoons like Adventure Time or Steven Universe, which paid much less heed to consistent character models (to varying successes, in fairness). Again, I don't want to diminish any of the work done by the team here, as they have every right to be proud of their game. I just maybe feel advertising it on the merits of "zomg, 2000s cartoon game!" is a bit disingenuous, I think.
Good point. I never thought of it as a homage to early 2000s animation. I know this term is overused, but when I first saw it years ago, my brain immediately went to “Calarts style.” I not saying there’s anything wrong with that. I think it looks great as a game with animation inspired by shows like adventure time or gravity falls. But If they were going for an early 2000s style yeah it doesn’t quite track.
The thing that really matters is the art style uses what's actually possible for graphics in the modern gaming age. 10 or so years ago this would be a "retro 8-bit throwback style" because that's what every 2D game was.
I don't understand their 2000's cartoon point. Even when you don't consider the studio's start date, the earliest I can point to regarding the aesthetic is the early 2010's. I'm strict when it comes to recreating nostalgia and it's gotta be on point with the 2000's. The animation's great, it's fantastic, but it really is difficult not seeing a cereal commercial from like, 2013.
The animation's so smooth! It looks more like how I remember my childhood Cartoon Network shows, as opposed to how cheap and stilted they actually looked at times, which I think is a good stylistic choice. These guys could make the perfect Powerpuff Girls game, considering that almost all the official titles released by CN sucked. Same with Dexter's Lab, although I think Powerpuff better suits the action-adventure style of gaming.
I wonder if using Macromedia Flash helped get the look right in someway? I've noticed with like other cartoon if they try to recreate or draw the art style of an older cartoon they can't get it quite right. Like it just feels off but it's because the technology and programs we have now are just too advance to fully recreate that 90's early 2000's look. Sweet to see people talking fondly about Blud despite its shortcomings. So much fuppin' love and attention to it. Setting and tone may be a bit out-there and provocative but i'd warmly recommend looking into it.
Played it, finished it and loved it. This game is a huge homage towards the 90s and 2000s CN shows. I've seen so many references from this game. I wanna see more of these guys.
I had not noticed that guy looked like Billy. I thought the most obvious character lookalike was the shop assistant that looked like Mandark but blond. I only found out about this game a few weeks before it came out when it got suggested to me on facebook (yeah I still use that lol) And I was posting fan art and trying to tell people about it. I liked the style after the first video and thought it was neat. But after seeing the attention to detail and remarkable work these guys did, I'm buying this for sure. Gotta support something this amazing! Thanks for the vid!
Wish you a lot of fun on Blud when you may get to it, and hope the support will be of help! I'll be doing the same for it among with many others, from Soulstice to Ruffy and the Riverside. If you're up for another 2D hand-drawn animated game with a lot of color and a more irreverent, adult tone, look up Cookie Cutter. Can be a bit out there, but those that jive with it jive with it *hard*.
While you're at it in showing love to the smaller studios and games, take note of such games as Clash: Artifacts of Chaos (made by the studio that made Zeno Clash and The Eternal Cylinder) Cookie Cutter, Decline's Drops, The Eternal Life of Goldman, Ruffy and the Riverside, Immortal: And the Death that Follows, My Familiar, The Dungeon Experience, Genokids, Kraino Rebirth, Near-Mage, Loco Motive, The Mermaid Mask, whatever Moonhood Studio and Amanita Design are cooking up, Bad Boro, Soulstice, No Straight Roads and bloomin' heck there's so many more studios and games that could use such support. Hope that others who come across this comment will help on spreading the word on all these cool games. In the meantime-- wish you a lot of fun on Blud when you may get to it! Happy vampire hunting!
with how much they got right with #BLUD i'am very excited to see what they do next either its a game with more experience or maybe they'll finally get to make the show they initially wanted to make. the fact they made the animations in macromedia flash shows the dedication and love the creators have for that style and medium
Got me that game on release and even with its flaws, I freakin love it. Wonderfull CN era animation. A town and bosses inspired by my favourtie horror movie the thing? Fun and creative boss fights even? Oh hell ya.
In defense of filler haters, for anime, a lot of filler in shonen like Naruto tend to not be canon and characters can sometimes act a bit out of character or will have developments that are then immediately retconned. I don't feel like I'm learning anything about the characters, but instead I feel like I'm watching a fanfic.

Glad to see you back with a new video and with this interesting game no less, maybe I'll give this a shot
Thank you pan this review was amazing.
The art style reminds me of Kid Cosmic or Ok Ko let's be heroes
11:24 that explains it
WOW 25$! that’s insane
Who the fuck invited Magic Mush
It wasn't Wayne Gretzky who keyed your car Pan...
I remember you talking about this a while ago, nice to see its released
Bro I got major nostalgia chills in my bones watching the animation of this game. That Billy and Mandy vibe😮
Thank you, Pan for reminding me that i need to buy this game right now. Gotta show love to these small and new game studios.
@@jurtheorc8117 I'll definitely check them out. Thanks for the recommendations
with how much they got right with #BLUD i'am very excited to see what they do next either its a game with more experience or maybe they'll finally get to make the show they initially wanted to make. the fact they made the animations in macromedia flash shows the dedication and love the creators have for that style and medium
AW HELL NAW BLUD REALLY COVERED BLUD 💀
Got me that game on release and even with its flaws, I freakin love it. Wonderfull CN era animation. A town and bosses inspired by my favourtie horror movie the thing? Fun and creative boss fights even? Oh hell ya.
yooo love the consistent uploading
In defense of filler haters, for anime, a lot of filler in shonen like Naruto tend to not be canon and characters can sometimes act a bit out of character or will have developments that are then immediately retconned. I don't feel like I'm learning anything about the characters, but instead I feel like I'm watching a fanfic.
This is why Naruto is infamous for it's filler and why filler got a bad rep in the first place
Wanna also point this out that Beckys Mentor also looks a lot like an older version of Caleb from the game Blood.
