  • He meticulously transformed his Hako into a Hot Wheels legend-an authentic JDM classic that captures the 70s and 80s era of Japanese tuning. The outcome: a 1972 Nissan Skyline 2000GT Hakosuka boasting period-correct features, including a vintage Cartech intercooler, AiResearch turbo, L28 inline-six engine and triple Mikuni Solex carburetors with the first Rocket Bunny body kit in the US rolling on stretched Toyo R888R Proxes and Racing Service Watanabe R-Series wheels. Air Force veteran Roy de Guzman invites Nicole to experience the right-hand-drive manual and its snappy OS Giken racing clutch with a cruise around suburban Las Vegas.
    MORE ABOUT ROY:
    United States Air Force veteran Roy de Guzman was stationed at Yokota Air Base when he acquired his Hakosuka. As a member of Team Wild Cards, Roy frequents JDM car shows and meets around Nevada and Southern California, snatching multiple awards throughout the years and various liveries of his beloved Skyline.

      Hey Roy super nice car .my son and I REALLY enjoyed your stories.
      Currently he is a staff Sargent in USAF at Hurlburt . He hoping to pcs to Japan when the op is available .
      We are Datsun people having owned many 240’s and a few 510.
      But your car is in a class by itself.
      Can you tell me the engine builder again. I may want to build another engine but don’t want to use rebello. Thanks again Roy .

    This is my kind of car. This and the 33 (unpopular opinion) are my favorite model skylines. This thing looks so engaging to drive. Exactly my type. The challenge of driving it would never get old. I can just imagine the smell of the exhaust and fuel from the carbs. Takes me back to my teens driving an old dual point d15 ef civic hatch back as my first car. Getting in first thing in the morning, exhaust gas billowing from startup and the smell of how rich they run initially 😋😋

    What a treat! I had just finished watching a video about a Renault 5 Turbo on Iain Tyrrell's channel. It was a car I had no interest in but the video made it interesting. Then this was "next in line" and while I've also never had any interest in the Skyline, I thought this was fascinating. Roy, the vehicle you've created is absolutely badass! That motor, the componentry, the love (and incredible attention to detail) you've put into it, absolutely amazing and congrats to Nicole for being the best student on the clutch take-up. Way back in about 1983 or so, one of my teachers at school had a Skyline just like this one. I don't remember all the details other than it being a metallic grey colour but I do remember him saying it was fuel injected. This was in the UK when older japanese cars were extremely rare because they had all mostly dissolved by then. I never realised at the time what a special car it was.

      @@quistSS44Not just the clutch, Nicole's one of the few Automotive UA-camrs who doesn't yank on the gear selector like she's trying to pull it out of the chassis, Nicole is more pull and let it travel at it's own speed and go in smooth, which is far less upsetting to the chassis and grip when you pull a gear mid-corner.

    • @quistSS44
      @quistSS44 6 місяців тому +4

      @@PiDsPagePrototypes I totally agree with you! One of the keys to good (race) driving is smoothness, and this most certainly applies to the use of the brake and accelerator pedals. On the street, braking and accelerating are done at relatively low levels compared to the vehicle's capability. The tire's traction limits are rarely maxed out. Sure, you can romp on the throttle and spin the tires at a light, or slam on the brakes and slide the car a little, but its very easy to bring the car back under control because the amount of traction you need versus what you have is quite low. In other words, you back way off and you're usually right back in control.
      In the rain, or especially the snow, you know you have to be much gentler and smoother with the brakes and with the accelerator. If you lose control on a wet or snowy surface, it can be much harder to regain control. There is much less traction to work with.
      Braking and accelerating when racing on a road race course, even when dry, is treated something like driving on a wet surface gently and smoothly. Braking and accelerating are used in conjunction with the corners you brake going into them and accelerate coming out of them. Because the objective is to have the car moving as fast as possible through the corner, the tires will be utilizing most of the available traction. The driver must be very smooth with the use of the brakes going into the corner and the accelerator coming out of the corner. A sharp change in braking or power at these points will upset the car's traction balance just as quickly as if you were driving on ice. Working within the last 1% of traction means there is no reserve to call upon to gain control of the car back. Even the pros very rarely recover a car that has lost control. It's not because they don't know how, it's because there's no traction left to work with. It is imperative to learn how to be consistently smooth in braking and accelerating on a road course. (I'll stop here, although I could go on for ages about this subject...😊😉)
