I have an early build 11. Ford now sells the replacement press in rubber gasket for the plastic lower pan, so that's what I changed on mine when it started leaking.
Yep had to do it to my 18 Kr after dealer did it twice. They told me it wasnt leaking it was seeping. Oil dripping from bolts is not seeping. I drained it, cleaned it, siliconed, let silicone skin up finger tightened and sequentially torqued bolts in interval. Left it sit overnight to let silicone cure then filled it with oil. Test drove it no leak. Traded it. Now have a 2022 KR LB
My 16 is starting to leak, so I'm trying to save a little money after seeing the one video of that fancy oil pan u put in. Thanks for sharing ARod, always putting out good videos
Took my factory plastic pan off last night to let it drain and when I took the last bolt out it fell off in my hands 😂 guess it’s obvious why it leaked so bad. Zero RTV bond between upper & lower pan.
I recently replaced mine likely for the first time ever @225k. I put a gasket in and will definitely be putting a new pan next time considering how much I dinged it trying to pry it off.
2023 6.7 @ 5500 miles, lower pan oil leak dealer repaired, still leaking two days later went back in and replaced the oil cooler gaskets this time. We’ll see
I did this to my 16 6.7 not because it was leaking, but because I wanted a larger oil pan. Pain in the ass, but I get an extra 2 quarts per oil change so I push it an extra 1000 miles per oil change.
I have a question and you seem the best person to ask. I have a 2016 f350 that is making a knocking noise that sounds like it’s on the passenger side or the middle of the motor. Also blows white smoke only under throttle. Has plenty oil and coolant.
Great video Very impressed with your workmanship. I am going to to this to my 2011. Upgrading for plastic pan with seeping drain plug. Question I have is there an alternative to the Motorcraft metal prep wipes to clean with? They are super expensive and would not be worth purchasing for only one job?
My pan just started to do this, I've got 100k on my 11. Tomorrow I'm going to do my fuel filters, front and rear diff fluid and I have lube lockers instead of RTV, and I'm wondering now if they make one for the oil pan....
Mines going back to the dealer this coming week for the 2nd time to fix upper oil pan. First one was about 30k miles ago. Would you buy the pan from a 11-16 with the recessed gasket? I asked the guy about it and he said he would just stick with the silicon, just depends on the person installing it. He said he’s seen the 11-16 leak as well. Just have to take your time on silicon. What’s your thoughts brother?
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod guess I don’t really care about what year is what year. I’m asking if I should buy the one with the built gasket or just have him reseal with silicon again. Obviously silicon sucks because they went back to a gasket either 2021 or 2022.
Does the pan always get destroyed and replaced when doing this? I have an early build '11 that already has a steel pan, but noticed it's leaking now so I'm going to address it on my next oil change.
Mine has the plastic pan with a leaky plug so I might have to replace the whole pan - I tried a new plug last oil change but still leaks. I did get an actual motorcraft plug for next oil change hoping that'll work, we'll see!
2019 with 15000 miles? Wow, that incredible. My 2019 has 94000 miles. I have no oil leaking problems. I don't like the silicone method. Isn't there an aftermarket with a gasket or rubber O ring? I know that you have to follow the manual at work.
Why isn't there a gasket retrofit kit available for these instead of using the same messy and failure prone silicone? I'd almost be inclined to make my own gasket out of EPDM rubber or even cork.
I haven't had not 1 issue with re sealing them. It's those of you who fail to do the proper prep work, are the ones who cry when they come back, leaking
Yeah, and have to remove the engine just to cut the oil pan back off because of poor, lack of proper cleaning on the pan surface and the Blok surface is unreal. And doing it a second time for free would suck big time
