Nice job . Diagnosed our 2017 F550 with 35k leaking passenger side front cover/upper oil pan area at the end of the day. Tight spot above the cooler line bracket/wire loom etc. This is confirmation I’m on the right track. Oil Was swept wet back under truck, but only little spots on ground. 1st one out of entire fleet to leak. Might be warranty job . No complaints here. Plenty busy.

Great video and great explanation. I'm on my 2nd failure now on my '17 F350...one replacement at 33,000 kms, and now the 2nd (waiting on parts back order) at 148,000. I've been contemplating doing a CCV filter delete, although as a Ford dealer you may not be able to comment on that?

My 2019 6.7 powerstroke just sprung an oil leak at 45000 miles. Definitely under warranty. I'm going to replace the crankcase filter first, but I think I definitely need to get it in to the dealer as well.
Any updates? Did the filter stop the leaking
Do the 2016 f250 6.7 have the crank case filter ? If so is it the newer style?
So if the 11-16 still clogs up, but can not be replaced or cleaned or serviced, what do you do? Ford just today quoted me $4800.00 to fix my upper oil pan leak. I have had 8 diesels since my first F350 in 1985. My next motor will be a 7.3 gas.
Great Video & explanation! I have a 2011 that I just recently replaced the transmission on. While I had the trans out I went ahead and did my rear cover and rear main seal. I think I may need to do the front cover and front main seal now. In your experience if I'm going all the way in to do the front main seal how much more involved is the front cover? Also do you think the rubber gasket on the upper oil pan be a problem when I pull off the front cover? I only put in the "Dabs" of silicone on the corners of the upper oil pan as instructed in the service manual. The truck has 320K on it but still runs great, I want to replace the radiators, & water pumps and oil pump while I'm in there so this would kill so many birds with one stone. Any advise you could give me would be greatly appreciated!
I have a 2015 with the 6.7 and it does have the leak from the upper oil pan. The ford diesel specialty shop near me says they put the 2011 upper pan with the rubber gasket on the 2014 later build and later year trucks. From your video, you say that is not an option. They say the 2011 pan fits exactly on the later year models....
We did an upper oil pan on this after having to replace the flywheel it was not leaking before this work but now it leaks to a drip right at that tee we did do the upper oil pan again but no change now my tech says replace front timing cover it would be great if you can answer to this comment this was on the 2015 f250 6.7 thanks
Yeah sounds like it’s coming from the front cover gasket. The bad thing is the oil pan has to come back off to pull front cover.
Does it make a difference when you do the CCV reroute bypass kit?
Haven’t done any of those but if it bypasses the filter then it should get rid of all that excess crankcase pressure.
Will the leak come back due to the design with no gasket?
Do you work on them????? I have that issue with my 2018 truck

Just all depends on where it’s leaking. If it were me I would just park under some kind of pan at night so you can see if it’s progressively getting worse or not.

On a 2018 6.7L is the crankcase filter end-user serviceable, and if not, is it not inevitably going to get clogged up and then how do we fix it?
I’m not sure I know what you mean by “filter end-user”. The filter is serviceable on a 2018 model if that’s what your asking.
So which RTV do you like to use? I never really liked Motorcraft grey. It seems to come out of the caulk tube with a light skin allready over it. I have used Permatex Ultra Grey for years without one comeback but I haven't tried it on any major diesel repairs like a 7.3 or 6.7 oil pan. Do you think it's a good idea to use the Permatex? Thanks!
Honestly, it probably all comes out of the same plant. Any hi temp silicone should work decent for this.
I just had my 2016 F350 in the dealership to diagnose and repair an oil leak. They said that it was coming from the vacuum pump assembly and after waiting two months for the parts to come in, this was all replaced at a cost of about $1,000 Drove the truck home and the oil leak was worse than ever...just dripping off everything underneath. Took it back to the dealer and now they are saying it looks to be coming from the front timing cover-oil pan cover. A very, very expensive repair. I bought the truck in Oct of 2015, brand new, and it has about 66,000 miles on it. Ford said it is out of warranty and will not help with the cost of repair. What about this 100,000 mile powertrain warranty??? No good because of 5 years gone by? Thanks for any advice.
Call ford and raise hell. Most of the time they will help you out. And if the don’t want to help you out tell them your next 3 trucks are gonna be dodges. That usually changes their mind.
Ford changed from the CCV with the filter, to the CCV without the filter somewhere in the 2019 model year. Have you seen these issues with the new filter less CCV system?

I haven’t seen the same kind of issues with the newer style. Mainly the 2017-2018 models.
Do u HAVE too drop the transmission to take that front cover out? I’ve seen some guys get it with no leaks.
My trucks going in the dealer to get upper oil pan fixed in a couple weeks, but what you said about sealing the front cover is concerning. What do you think they’ll say if I try to get them to do that too
Just mention that you would like it checked when they do the oil pan also. Typically techs at a dealer are going to try to make sure they get it diagnosed right the first time because he doesn’t want to re seal oil pan just to turn right around and have to do it all a second time because the front cover was leaking. Sometimes it will be just the upper oil pan leaking. I’d just be watching to see if any of the oil is coming from above the T on that driver side. If it’s above then you know the cover is leaking too.
@@FlyingWrenches13 hey man, so I got the upper oil pan done a while ago. Then like two months later I started getting some oil on top of the trans and seeping down the passenger side of the trans. No idea what it could be. The breather on top of the trans is caked but I’m pretty certain it’s motor oil. I’ve lost about 1/2 a quart in like 5k miles so it’s not too bad right now but still concerning.

I have a 2015 6.7 powerstoke w 90,000 miles on it. It's fully deleted and tuned, and also has a CCV reroute done to it. Do you think my chances of developing a future oil leak will be reduced because of having a CCV reroute or no?

Good information but sends me into depression my dealer will come talk to me about dirty filters replaced the upper pan gasket once and the lower twice. never told me it was leaking again already changed the crankcase filter. this leak has been going on awhile, so now that its out of warranty its my problem. bad engineering bad workmanship bad all around and its just turned over 100000 miles. thought it was a good truck but who can afford one today.
No crankcase over pressure here but vacuum pump bolts are only finger tight .
How much does it matter warrantying a upper oil pan leak with a deleted truck you think? Don’t see how they can say it has anything to do with the delete.
It just all depends on the dealer. Most people wouldn’t void a warranty for a oil pan over an exhaust delete but there are those few out there that will

Yes a ccv delete or keeping this filter changed before it clogs up would solve the problem. I don't do very many ccv deletes so I can't really give you any advice on which one to buy. I hope I can get one to recommend and make a video on here soon. Hope this helped!
Ever seen the valve timing cover leak? 2015...had my 14 replaced(typical vacuum pump ordeal) I can’t believe this is “twice” I have one with a faulty front timing cover gasket for $3500 repair...
Yeah that’s a real common thing for the front cover to leak. Don’t see very many of them make it past a 100k miles without the notorious leak coming from the front cover/oil pan on front driver side.
@@FlyingWrenches13 really? I’ve talked to a few that haven’t seen timing cover gasket issues. I just don’t feel like I’m getting an honest answer from my dealer. I’ll be told after the fact “oh it was actually the vacuum pump issue” but yet be stuck with a big bill
So the vacuum pump is also a common place for them to leak on the 11-16 models as well. The problem with the vacuum pump is that the bolts will loosen up. If I were you I would check it yourself instead of putting all your trust in the dealer. If it’s leaking at the spot I showed in the video then it is definitely the timing cover/oil pan leaking. I know it can be hard to tell where it’s coming from if it’s a bad leak and oil is everywhere. If that’s the case I would clean it with a pressure washer or something like that and then add Diesel engine oil dye to it. You should be able to see where it’s coming from with a black light after adding that dye and driving for a while. You can pick the dye I’m talking about up at any parts store probably. I know that sounds like a lot but it could definitely save you some money in the long run. Hope this helps.

I have oil leaking at my upper and lower pan. I am at 150k miles. Here is the history. The truck started leaking at 50k miles. Took it ford and they “replaced” both seals (they had the truck for two weeks) and sent me on my way. At 61k miles it started leaking again. They kind of tried to blow it off and wanted me to pay but In the end they covered that two. I’m now at 150k miles and again we are leaking. Ford said cough up some cash which is about $3,500 and two weeks. Not once in the three times there was this problem did they mention the crankcase filter could be clogged.
I’ve searched and everything I’ve read said replace the crack seal filter and that would eliminate or drastically slow down the leak due to reduced pressure. I have watched all your UA-cam videos and saw trucks that were having the filter replaced. I bought the $170 filter from ford and pop the hood. Well mine is non serviceable. It’s a sealed case with I assume the filter inside. Why are there two different systems in the same year and model truck. Since I can’t replace the filter should I just replace the entire box? Would that “help” reduce the pressure and could potentially slow or stop the seals from leaking.?
I’ve even looked into the SPE delete kit but have heard mixed reviews on deleting that.

I have a 2019 F250. Upper oil pan started leaking on front driver side @ 130K miles. changed the crank case filter and hasn't leaked since. @ 140K and oil level hasn't ran low, even between oil changes. I drive commercially hauling campers, so it's a work truck with all highway miles. my concern is, should I go ahead and have upper oil pan seal replaced. anyone else running similar scenario?

I have a 2019 F250 and my upper oil pan started leaking the front driver side also @ 74,000 I just got it back from the shop and there was three recalls on The truck 👍 extended warranty covered it but it was 7000
I just deleted my ccv but I think a injector valve cover drivers side is leaking.
There is a new updated ccv box, that does away with the filter.
Yeah I think they started putting them on in 2019 or somewhere in that range.

There is a revision of the crank case filter that has no element in it and without the removable cover, revision F.

11-16 isn’t as common but it still happens. Can’t replace just the filter though. Have to replace the whole assembly.

Instead of trying to scrape off the old silicone. Just take it to your local machine shop and have that resurfaced... It usually does not cost much.. I just took in a 2011 Pan with the groove in it and had it
Surfaced Just to see how flat it was, The machinist said it was warped just a little on one side and took about 5 Thousands to make it flat.. It was probably that way from the factory...
Found my 2018 leaking today.
Did it have a lot of crank case pressure
@@FlyingWrenches13 I took the oil fill cap off, not while running, it was very clean under the cap, so I would say no big pressure. hoping to get in shop tomorrow.

So the oil leaks definitely apply to all years. Almost every one ever made either has or is going to develop a leak at the T where the front cover, oil pan, and block meet. The crank case filter problem is really more for the 17+. Although it is possible for the crankcase filter to stop up on the 11-16 models, it isn’t near as common. What year model do you have?
@@FlyingWrenches13 2011 252000 miles wet up by the dipstick tube, and wet on the pipe coming off the turbo big stains on concrete not really any pressure on oil cap removal
